I need to be cleared in the fog here (Ranked solo/duo returning)

Okay so i just found out that ranked solo/duo has returned but the new season has not taken off yet. I wanted to know just how worth is playing it right now compared to waiting till season 7 officially starts. Like right now I am currently sliver 3, would it help my MMR that much to try and make gold 5 preseason or is this seasons MMR reset going to be so hard that it doesn't matter how good i play right now ??

The rank that will be taken into account for your s7 placements will be the rank you achieved at the end of the preseason. So yes, it would help your mmr. Also i think i remember a rioter saying that the reset will not be as punishing as before, but i cant say im sure about that.

Which absolutely blows my mind. Flex queue and dynamic queue are essentially the same thing. Flex queue could have easiy just been done with a soft reset and it would have hurt nothing as people who do good in dynamic queue are obviously going to do good in flex queue except in the insignificantly rare case that they did nothing but 4 man queue.

Meanwhile solo queue is the one that needs the hard reset as people who got to higher ranks purely by playing with friends shouldn't be at those higher ranks in solo queue.

in terms of rewards... none whatsoever.

what you do get is....

  1. a chance for a better end of season MMR which will be used for determining your season 7 placement.

  2. higher quality games and better matchmaking for all games you do decide to play in ranked vs other.

  3. role preferences, assuming you normally play in a queue without them.
