Something wrong in S5 late game

There is something bad about the current late game. It's very frustrating. You're in a game that appear to last forever (1 hour). Your team took an inhib, then the opponents ook an inhib.. The game seem even and very balanced. Same skill level apparently on each side.

Suddenly, someone do 1 single small error in positioning (1 missed skill shot, 1 good blitz grab maybe..) and the entire game collapse. You lost a team fight and still managed to kill 3 of the opponents. But after 1 hour suddenly the game decide to end and you just realize that by the time your team will be up again, the adc alone have enough time to take down the 3 inhib towers, the 3 inhibs, the 2 nexus towers and then the nexus. (barely exagerating)

I understand the game must end at some point but the curve is just wrong In the current iteration. If the game goes over 50 minutes it seem decided on a dice roll instead of just keep going as usual.

I played enough of those game right now to realize it's not just a bad luck or a feeling. Really those games break instead of smoothly ending.

The main things that I see could fix this is :

  1. Minions don't scale high/fast enough.
  2. Towers don't scale high/fast enough.
  3. The nexus could be harder to destroy.
  4. Death timers could cap at 45 seconds.

On the other hand, I wouldn't mind if the game was slightly less stable on lower stages. It seem such situations happens more often, but maybe Riot have more stats then me about that.

What is your suggestions ?

Just as the J-something guy with the diamond icon said...unlike you, someone wants the game to end. And, of course, there IS no luck in league save for crits and matchmaking, and late-game is about how consistent is your performance. It's like fencing, if you suddenly gave your enemy an opening, you can expect them to anal you over and over for it....

I don't think that's S5 thing, and I don't think it's a problem. If the game never gets to that point, a close match would last way, way longer. A stomp will end before it gets to that point, but eventually a game will have to become who makes less mistakes. When you get to the point where a single team fight decides the game, it's probably because both teams are pretty even. With shorter death timers, it would be: win a fight, not enough time to do much with it, other team is back up, stall long enough that your progress becomes irrelevant (inhibs respawn, baron wears out, etc), wait for next fight.

Season 5? Pretty sure that is a "forever" thing... and it's not wrong, it's the way the game is designed.

That's why there are late game team comps, get to that point in the game, win a fight, end the game.

That would just stall out the game. 45 seconds? That is NOWHERE near enough time. Honestly, I feel as if that is actually a good thing. You should be working together, and it is end game, you shouldn't be allow to freely make mistakes that late with no consequences.

Could you imagine if he saw how DotA games can end? Teamfight - enemy team buysback - teamfight again, probably lose a second time, then sit there with a literally 120 second respawn timer. 150 if a Necrophos ult killed you. It's pretty funny

I'm afraid you guys didn't understood my main argument. I'm not complaining about the fact that the game should end. I'm not complaining about the fact that generally the consequences of small mistakes should become harsher and harsher in order for the game to end at some point. I'm not questioning the fact that it can be around 50 minutes.

I'm pointing out that the rate curve at which this occur is too steep around 50 minutes. Around that point you go from acing and getting a free inhib, to acing and win the game. It happens incredibly fast.

And they're saying that it's always been this way. Games end on the smallest of mistakes.

However, you may only be seeing it now if you've gotten better at the game. As players get better, two big things happen:

  1. Mistakes happen less often.
  2. Mistakes get punished more.

Players are better at recognizing mistakes and knowing how to avoid them and capitalize on them. This is best illustrated at the competitive level. Mistakes are relatively rare, but a single mistake can be RIDICULOUSLY costly.
