DFG Replacement Ideas

The name of the gave is, add a passive or active to a 120AP item with 10%-15%cdr.

Activated ability: Targeted transmorph of a single enemy champ for .5 seconds on a 180 second cd.

Activated ability: Target's MR is shred by 20% for the next 5 seconds.

Passive ability: All spell damage deals an additional 30 damage over 3 seconds in 3 ticks. This applies onhit effects.

I think the passive idea is probably the most reasonable and least problematic. Anyone else have any ideas?

The point of removing Deathfire Grasp is to remove what it does. You're giving the same thing.

With the removal of DFG, let's look at the other items that build from Needlessly Large Rod.

Deathcap is now without argument the "offensive" item, granting only raw power. Hourglass is the "defensive" pick. While most mages love to have both, this one is built first for people more likely to get killed.

Following the standard trinity of items and kits, this leaves room for a powerful AP item that grants utility. I want to keep it from giving other core mage stats like mana regen or passives that other AP items have such as slows, so what about something like this?

item 1058 +item 3113 =Super cool new item hooray.

120AP+10%CDR

Grants 10% MS for one second for killing a unit. OR Grants 5% MS for one second after killing a unit. This can stack up to 3 times for a maximum of 15% MS.

The numbers would probably have to be tweaked, but now we have an item that still benefits assassins (Ahri, Katarina), without being an instant killswitch on a 45 second cooldown. We also now have an item that not-burst-mages could purchase. With the second passive, a mage with good waveclear might be able to abuse it, however.

Wow, that's probably the least problematic passive you could add. Out of curiosity, when would you want to buy it? Liche bane provies 5%ms and spooky ghosts provides 6%. Which champs would use it the best and why?

I wanted something that was bought by mages around the same time they would get Deathcap (a first or second item). That passive does not give you much outside of the laning phase. If the stacking was changed so it gave you 10% MS for up to 3 seconds, it would be more effective for both post-laning "Let me clear this and then kill you" attacks, as well as "Clear raptors, show up mid" roams.

It's best on champions that want to go in (obviously), and Super cool new item hooray requires at least some kind of setup. Somebody with good waveclear could make great use of the second passive, if they didn't just lose their primary source of damage in order to do so. This would keep somebody like Fizz making too much use of it, but a Wizard Gragas could use it to get in belly bump or Explosive Cast range, or "what cooldowns" Zilean (does he need more MS?) to drop a bomb on your head.

Just thinking about it a little more. It would probably keep you safer in mid-late game when you're farming mid a little too far up and the goon squads comes at you with righteous glory or something. Another idea would be giving MS from spell damage, and increased MS from getting a kill similar to how triforce works. So you get a little speed buff by landing a spell making it easier to land more. Then you also get the increased safety of running away by quickly clearing a wave.
