The real reason nobody likes Vayne, Riven, or Yasuo is pretty simple.

Dueling and splitpushing aren't easy concepts to grasp in their entirety.

Now, before you lose your head and say, "Nuh uh you're stupid." ask yourself who the most obnoxious, hated splitpusher from the beta all the way to around S3 was? Chances are you're going to say Jax or Irelia. And why is that?

Well because they're some of the best duelists in the game and their splitpush is horrifying. Back in the day both of them would hit their spike and just suddenly go off. Jax would be 0/5 and just because he had 200 cs he could 1v3 and come out with a triple. Irelia would do this somewhere in the mid-game.

But as time went on people got better. People would coordinate so that only the CC/damage soak would eat jax's counterstrike, bait his Q, and then the adc would start wailing on him. People would send 3 people to catch him out and then push objectives. It's not like overnight he just suddenly went from god-tier to dumpster.

Same thing with Irelia, and even though she has tools that made her better in situations where Jax failed (tenacity so it's harder to CC her, E goes off when you choose rather than sitting there like a dumbass for 2 seconds, etc), she's still sitting in the same kind of funk.

The issue is Riot tried to make these splitpush/duelists have teamfights. Why? To drag them out of this, "Gotta split and 1v3 for all eternity" mindset. The issue is these champions are duelists by nature so when Riot gave them changes so that they could duel in teamfights, it muddled their absolute counterplay to points where people went from, "Ok just bait out her E." to "I have to make sure I'm not against a wall, have point-and-click CC, and we can burst her." And from a group of people that's ultra-resilient to change and want to just play what they enjoy (in case you haven't noticed all the bitching about autofill recently), that's simply not going to happen.

So in case anyone wants a discussion about this; should we scale back champions like Yasuo, Vayne, and Riven to match their obsolete counterparts or should we modernize champions like Udyr, Jax and Irelia? I'd throw in Tryndamere as well, but I don't want to skew the results. This is because anyone who does not think we need to rework Tryndamere is higher than a kite.

Renekton didn't really take off until S3, and most of that was him being a god at laning and then just being a big ol' meatwall in teamfights.

Jax has been plaguing League since beta and Irelia was a nightmare in S2 and S3.
