With regards to resistances/penetration items, Any one else feel this way?

Sorry this is a rant. just had to get it out.

I feel like both armor and armor pen (or magic) are both too strong/ play too significant a role. Champions with armor could care less how well you csed or how much lifesteal/dmg you have if you don't have armorpen.

mean while when an adc gets armorpen as a tank i feel like i can't do anything.

Playing lucian, i was decently itemized, okay maybe not, in fact i don't blame team mates for wanting to report me. was a teambuilder game. wanted to try a different build went ghostblade shiv into bt never got to finish lastwhisper. My runes would make you all cringe, tried a mixture of %crit, +crit dmg. I just like to experiment, like how much worst can it be from the meta. then i realize why the meta is the way it is. I realize sejuani is strong right now but i couldn't even put a dent into her. like i had bt i should have been able to at least out sustain her in a 1v1 but nope. I feel like lifesteal should have a built in lastwhisper or something. that way at least you'll have your sustain. by build in i mean you'll vamp off the damage you would do if you have lastwhisper even though you aren't dealing that much damage. Its just armor destroys all your stats since by reducing your damage it also reduces your sustain etc.

**It would also be nice to be able to buy last whisper's armor pen stat before buying the damage portion of its stats. ** I would much rather prefer buying 5% worth of armor pen at a time like tanks do for armor. I was sitting on long sword pick axe for important fight where id much ratherbenefitted from armor pen. mean while tanks can buy chain vest and counter you pretty quickly.

the same could be the case for void staff.

So i'm trying to get a handle on the numbers. So as i'm reading about how armor is calculated this struck me:

"Every point of armor requires a unit to take 1% more of its maximum health in physical damage to be killed. This is called effective health."

So, the more hp the more you get out of armor essentially?
I thought armor reduced the incoming damage itself and didn't matter how much hp you had.

see no wonder tanks go so far with armor. and no wonder armor pen goes so far.

it should just mitigate the incoming damage regardless of your hp.

unless i'm reading the description incorrectly

More like - the more armor the more you get out of hp. With 1k hp and 50% reduction off of armor (you can get it with just 100 armor), that hps are 1.5k effectively ... then there comes armor pen runes and a lot of other things. Anyway, Armor Pen, Armor etc. work in a good way, stop with this crying threads :/

who says they arent

pl are complaining they arent ballanced propertly not that they work bad

the thing is that in game, and i repeat in game not in your math book this looks like that no lw= no damage cause a little bit of armour destroys you lw=loads of damage even to squishies and no armor can stop you

this interaction is what ppl realy dont like becuase htis basicaly puts the entire ballance of armor ws ad on one item, and youmus/bc dont even come close to the power lw wields

what ppl realy want is for lw to be a situational item used to counter tanks/teams stacking armor instead of an item that just amplifies your damage vs everything especialy tanks its a core item on every champions who is built mainly around offense whether they face tanks or squishies (ofc it isnt a first item, but every adc/yasuo build has it at one point)

It does. Think of it this way:

A Mage with 1000 HP & 0 Armor is fighting an ADC with 250 AD. The ADC kills the Mage in 4 shots.

A Tank with 1000 HP & 100 points of armor fighting an ADC with 250 AD. The ADC kills the tank in 7 shots.

Both have the same total health, but since the tank has 100 more armor than the mage, his heath is more effective.

Just to put my concern to rest... so the damage dealt is the same regardless of hp.

so a tank with 2000hp and 100 points of armor fighting an ADC with 250 AD. The ADC kills the Mage in 14 shots. Each shot the adc does (assuming he has no crit) 142 dmg.

while a tank with 1000hp and 100 points of armor fighting an ADC with 250 AD. The ADC kills the tank in 7 shots. .Each shot the adc does (assuming he has no crit) still 142 dmg.

the description seems misleading.

Reading this: "....1% more of its maximum health in physical damage to be killed.... " Tells me the more health i have the more 1% is. i still think the wikia needs to be corrected

What if armor was more like cdr. cap at 75% damage reduction, kind of like alistar ult or garen shield. like cdr has 40% cap.

of course every champion with armor buffs like rammus/malphite ... would have to have their kits revised.

or armor could be based off a max health number that is static and applies to everyone/ better put: a universal reference point to measure off of like like say 2.5 k hp. This static number could increase by an amount every level. so from 800 to 2.500 hp at level 18. that way armor is worth the same amount no matter who you are. problem solved. Or It could vary based on the champion like base ad and sheen procs. Instead of giving characters a varying amount of base ad, just give them varying amount of this hp off of which your armor's effectiveness is measured. it would create a node that riot could use to balance specific champions. like for instance sejuani, cough cough

well its not much of a rant as those are facts

if you dont get lastwhisper then say bb to the game becuase a fighter with one armor item can just do whatever he wants with you, you wont lifesteal, you wont deal damage even with almighty ie crit

but if you have that lw its other way around, enemy tank just cant risk getting into your line of fire under a threat of imminent death

thats why i think that entire "bringing tanks to viability" riot is doing is literaly bulls**t because we are just growing problems on problems, in the end it will blow up somewhere anmd it will blow up hard
