PSA: Just because a champion deserves a VGU does not mean they will get one soon.
Been seeing a lot of posts lately speculating who the next VGUs will be after Urgot and Evelynn. (hint, it's not Aatrox, he's a GU not a VGU. Different teams at Riot work on those.) Now most of the speculation has been around which champion "deserves" it the most with champions such as
. The problem with this logic is that simply forcing champions onto the VGU because they deserve one is not a good idea and here's why: if ideation for a VGU is not already underway when a champion is set for a rework it will cause the gameplay side of things to be rushed.
Remember what's been seen in the past when reworks are rushed? Take a look at any of the class updates for evidence, those updates are case in point of teams being rushed too hard to finish up reworks to meet deadlines and plenty of those reworks ended up being so difficult to balance afterwards that they needed heavy attention patch after patch (

).
There are also some cases of reworks being rushed and going off of the original theme of the champion, such as
changing from Assassin to Kite mage (that still does damage of an Assassin). Or themes being played on so much that game health and interactive play are put at risk
's Villian mechanic,
pre-revert Machine Gun, etc.
What I'm trying to get at (here's TL;DR) is that you shouldn't expect a champion to be next on the VGU list just because they deserve it. VGUs take time and you have to be patient if you want the full potential of a champion's theme to be drawn out in terms of gameplay.
