Can you please explain why you never just buff the counters of a meta op champion? I can understand that you don't want to be too hasty ever since s5, but come on some of the meta OPs are fine entirely fine in counterplay just that their counters aren't. I'm not really asking for specific champion changes, I'm just asking in general because I don't really notice buffing counters being considered a balance choice anymore, if it ever was.
Brutalitops012 votesThey want counter matchups to be based less on the pick and more on your skill. Simply put, they don't want any single champion to have the only reason for you to pick them be to counter another single champion. Reasonable counterplay should exist as something any champion can do at any time, though naturally some champions will do it easier or better than others.
EcchiOtakuTM1 votesThank you for that explanation, it just feels like there's perfect times to lightly buff someone a bit underpowered at times, not so much the counters who are in a good spot. However they refuse to but choose nerfing someone who had counterplay just fine just nothing in the competition that could make more use of it.
I don't really view that just picking a champion would fully shut down a top pick, just make it more favorable to pick into that champ using the counter which would still allow skill while also helping control the top pick a bit.
Brutalitops011 votesThe other thing is that some champions have had balance issues in the past. The people who are on the rework list were, at one point, completely busted and rampaging through solo queue, then after a few times nerfing them down into a balanced spot they were still too strong, so Riot just decided "You know what? These guys have naturally toxic kits, time to gut them and turn them into the most useless and laughed at champions in the game until we can finally get around to reworking them."
