yikes, they went through with the illaoi e changes
buffs? deserved. but by removing counterplay from her e? really damn stupid.

yes and no. While certain characters were able to really punish her fast enough to kill the test (like singed, although when i played singed against an illaoi it never worked but when others used it against me they could break the test in under 2 seconds, go figure), the shorter length will make it harder for her to finish it in time. The counterplay now is basically "don't fight her at low health", because as long as your vessel has enough HP left she won't finish it off in time. It is a buff, especially against certain enemies, but not quite as huge as one might think. If you consider how she would also use it to just snag a little extra health off an opponent who was close to turret, it's a nerf since it won't last as long. I main illaoi so i'm curious to see how it plays out. I'm glad that garens won't so easily cancel the test but i'll probably have less finishes of a vessel overall

its two seconds shorter. thats two instances of damage on her before the removal of the mechanic.
pretty much every champion was able to cut that much time from her e. this is really a huge buff.
plus, didnt they buff the frequency of tentacle slams? my problem isnt that she got buffed, but with the klepto cdr build that is popular on her, she can throw quite a lot of hooks at you, and they took the only way to counter it now.
she deserved buffs, but i definitely wouldnt have done this shit. like scaling down the time of her tentacle spawns with level was really good for example and kindof overdue.
i would have went further with the buffs to her passive to make tentacles harder to take down from range.
By your logic. Every skill shot in the gave has no counter play

the problem with her e is especially for melee champions. the way tentacles are placed on walls, you bring yourself into a really shitty position to get hit by her e when youre trying to remove them, as you have to step out from behind your minion wave, and take at least 2 seconds to auto attack them. (unless its like jax, but not everyone has an auto reset on a short cooldown)
its really difficult for melee champions to get openings to take down the tentacles for that reason. a lot harder than for ranged champions who can stand behind minions while autoing them.
with
rush you could mitigate some of that pain of getting hit more frequently by reducing the timer on her e with sunfire ticks.
i would have changed her passive to show where the tentacles are placed, but not make them targetable from outside direct vision at all. that way, ranged champions would have had to walk up to tentacles placed in bushes to remove them just like melee champions, and come out of their cover now and then.
even by riots own reasoning why they made that change, the tentacles should have been visible, but never targetable without direct vision. the only reason they did it, was because they said illaois strength is very hard tied to how much tentacles are around and not giving her opponents that information would be unfair (meanwhile
barrels still get stealthed by bushes lol). but that doesnt mean you have to be able to destroy them that easily.
It's a buff to her when she's behind or against poke champs...But if you couldn't fight or poke her before it's a nerf to her.
i think they lowered the gap between illaoi being behind and illaoi being ahead because if she could do what she wanted i don't think you had the option to reduce the E duration by attacking her because you would just get straight killed but if you were ahead and could tank through some of her damage she would never be able to fight back
so the change is a nerf to her most abused lanes and a buff to her worse lanes
ie reducing the delta which i think it's fine this might mean that she suddenly becomes meta as her weaknesses won't be as abusable but we will have to wait and see
