Shadow Walking with Evelynn; What to do?

PopcornBunni··0 votes·676 views

Evelynn is a melee-range hybrid-damage-dealer usually walking through the shadows of the jungle, with a lot of tools going on and a lot of potential ways to abuse them. At the moment, however, it feels like she isn't able to deal enough damage nor set up situations for her team to secure kills.

She can build attack speed and on-hit effects to have absurd jungle clears with her E, but this leaves her damage against enemy champions extremely low. She can build AP to increase the damage her R deals, but this damage doesn't help her assassinate targets since it is based on their remaining health, while her Q requires sticking to a target for a while to finish them off.

She can build hybrid to add some spellvamp and lifesteal from item 3146, but this lowers her overall damage without helping her squishiness.

The examples go on; she can be built tanky, sort of, with titanic hydra, or build physical to take advantage of the better AD scaling on her E and Q, but everything leaves her lacking in areas that don't even require the opponent to build or play around, they just leave her always doing less damage than whatever her opponents can do to her. They don't need to build magic resist to stop her, they can just hit back harder. They don't need to build penetration to stop her tanky build, she doesn't do any damage. They don't need to build grievous wounds because she is too fragile to make use of on-hit effects and lifesteal. Her ult neither works to finish off foes nor soften them up and the shield granted is simultaneously negligible when she's fragile, and worthless when she's building health.

At the end of this, I guess I'm just at a loss for where to go with this character. I love the playstyle of Eve, especially her on-hit E and chasing/retreating Q, but she just doesn't seem made for anything but vs. AI. She can't retreat or go intangible like it seams nearly every other Assassin can (Talon, Leblanc, MasterYi, Zed, Ahri, Akali, Ekko, Elise, Kassadin) and also lacks the innate range of mages or durability of fighters. What role is she really meant to be?

AP or tank eve are the most viable options AD eve cost too much gold to build and because it doesnt scale with her ult at all its by far worse in almost every situation.

item 3020 item 1414 or item 1402 item 3152 item 3100 item 3151 item 3116 in some cases if you fall behind super early in my opinion skip proto belt its really only good when ahead and trying to gap close when behind you are usually kiting more and wand feel much better later on if you went item 3116 and item 3151 or item 3001 after completing the jungle item and probably follow up with item 3025 instead of lich bane.

Eve is a high risky high reward champ the problem is i feel that she sometimes just has too much risk with the reward being pretty lack luster because eve heavily relies on the actives/passive of items to front the damage. This is the reason items like deathcap are lackluster in most cases except for super late game when you need just a little bit more damage.

some other items that are over shadowed in most cases are item 3115 /item 3091 something they changed about eve a long time ago as you know they made her E proc on hit this makes items like nashers and wits end and Botrk pretty strong on eve however nashers is only an item you'd ever really consider if you A: need to be the split pusher for the team because you are able to able to 1v2/3 the enemy team from getting so far ahead B: need more burst/sustain damage however this still requires you to still be fed. Either way you need to be very much ahead to do anything if you are even with the enemy jungle you are behind typically in damage. Most people will probably say stay away from nashers and wits end all together because its a little cheesy and greedy to them considering how squishy she is.

also NEVER BUILD CRIT ON EVE. i tested it a while back her E does not get the damage modifier from crit therefore its useless you usually are not auto attacking enough to ever go crit items. With the other on hit items like lich bane and nashers that do work with her E they instantly becomes better items.

Your E acts as an animation reset so if you can you want your target to be running towards you when you are stalking around if you are too far away you wont get the animation cancel which is why sometimes when you E its feels like you do much less damage either you cancel the auto from being too far away or once in a while you may have an action that eats it so you might use the ability and instantly move away instead of letting it get the auto attack off.

attack speed isnt amazing on eve because like i said you usually are not auto attacking enough but it doesnt mean its useless. one of the reasons nashers is so strong is that eve can utilize the on hit and also get a decent amount of ap and 20% cdr basically acts like a 2nd lich bane in terms of damage.

Playing eve is not like playing most junglers you typically have to know where the enemy team is at all times even with no vision and get into position no matter how risky it is because thats what it takes to push her to her limits this really isnt that hard in solo Q not enough players buy pink wards and if you look at the map objectives and the side minion waves keep track of buff timers and so on you can usually predict a lot of things and path accordingly. Majority of players disrespect eves ability to hook around and flank which is probably her biggest strength because it will draw the front line away from the front to deal with you allowing the rest of your team to collapse. Eve is super easy it play but in reality to make her viable you really need to understand what she is capable of and have very good insight on how a typical team fight will given the comps and state of the game.

TLDR eve is okay but requires a lot of game knowledge and ability to read the map and adjust accordingly. She has a number of build paths but requires a lead to be relevant past the 15 minute mark in most cases. If you don't create leads in the early game expect the later stage of the game to be much more difficult.

PS character control and the ability to dodge skill shots is pretty massive you need to be able to sidestep most skill shots or predict where they are going more on eve than most other champs. Eve is a good champ for learning how to think ahead instead of in the moment which becomes more and more important as you climb the ladder

PSS eve isn't great into or with all team comps and can feels lack luster against deathball comps with heavy cc/disengage/exhaust or mobility typically want to pick her as a counter to immobile comps or with a comp that has a lot of engage tools that like to be scrappy.

All the damage builds on Eve should be pretty effective, with the exception of attackspeed AD (I think, Crit however is viable). I've heard/seen people go things like Duskblade/Stattikk Shiv/IE.

AP actually has far better assassination than you make it seem, yes Q is DPS but for some reason I don't understand, AP Eve still has amazing burst. I think Lich Bane is key, not sure about gunblade or Protobelt.

I've also heard of Triforce/tanky.

It's not amazing unless you are way ahead. If you aren't ahead or are even, you will lose to pretty much any champ, including adcs until you get like 5 items. If you are ahead though then yeah she does a lot of burst to squishy champs. She will still get dumpstered by champs like Gragas, Irelia, Zac, Graves, etc. even if she is 5-6 kills up and 2 items ahead. There are very few champs she beats in a 1v1 early game on even playing field. Even with Skirmisher's, she still can't fight most champs because her burst is wayyyy too low and she is way too squishy to use her sustained dps from Q.

Yeah but her ganks are amazing early game due to stealth, so she's really good at snowballing.

They are not amazing. They are well below average, at best.

It's her Ult, she opens a fight with it dealike like 30% of your health and getting a shield, then can sit there and chunk you with E and Q repeatedly.

For dps Eve? I think AD/crit/Lethality is about ult, yes, and then a 500-1k damage E for like 80% of your heath, then finishing autos. AP is ult into Q's and Lichbane for 80% of your health, then finishing Q's.

Her E deals AP dmg, not AD, building AD turns it into a steroid only, and weakens it. A lot. Her best build ImO is AP Attack Speed.

item 1402 item 3100 item 3115 item 3091 item 3116 item 3089 with Thunderlords

Is a great build on her allowing for really heavy burst through Dipping. Run into a lane and E Q the target then back off, you dipped, dealing good dmg and telling them you're there, they will play safe, giving your laner safety, then go clear something if they're still pretty high, but if they're low, double dip and do it again once TL is up for the kill. You have really high initiation burst and presence. If you need boots, swap out wits end. Rylais will let you stick to your target, finishing them off with Q.

I've always thought of Eve E as a Shyv Q with an AS steroid tacked on. And Lethality/Crit Shyv would be amazing if you were invisible like Eve. I don't know the numbers, but in my mind it would be a 500% AD damage with a crit. I've also seen/heard about it doing insane damage. Doesn't it have a really good AD scaling?

It was 75% AD, 100% AP, but now it's 50% on both, and since AP can be the higher number, it's what you want.

Oh. Damn.

Nobody bothers to read, huh? Evelynn's E hits twice. As in, 2 hits for a total of 100% AD and AP scaling.

Still half the damage of Shyv Q.

So skip boots entirely? I've been building boots of mobility with her to try and get between jungle camps faster but it doesn't seem to help against any of the junglers people seem to play.

Terozu1 votes

It really depends on the enemy, if they're slow and tanky, you can outrun them so you want the MR shred instead. If they are squishier, and have high mobility, BoM are better, and if they have utility BoS.

Yeah she's been shit on for far too long. She's getting reworked though. All of her active abilities got massively nerfed not only numerically, but mechanically as well, which is a real problem. And yeah she just doesn't deal nearly enough damage unless massively ahead.

She's purposely kept bad. Riot does not like her kit. There are many champions in such a state. Riot is working on her next.

Any word on if she will keep her Q and E attack speed? They really sell the gameplay feel of chasing down an opponent and shredding them, even if she's on the weak side right now.
