If it's your first time playing a champion, please just do it in bots (Low Elo)
It's really annoying when someone just thinks their gonna pick up Yasuo and carry. I'm over people costing me and others unnecessary losses cause of that.

When i get a new champ i don't like to do a "Bot Round". The bots are WAY too easy and normal's poses more of a challenge. I learn more from playing a tough match up, such as what is this new champs weaknesses and strengths. However in bots you still see strengths and weaknesses, but let's say right after you did that first round in norms you decide to do a second. You'll know a little more about the champ and improve more. When i do a bot then a norm it usually doesn't turn out so good.
The only reason I would want someone to do a bot round first is to actually give themselves some idea of what to do when playing that champion. Not having any idea about a champions capabilities and cooldowns and still having to adjust to another enemy champion being played a someone else would be a lot harder imo.
I am thoroughly disgusted with people who feed in ranked games and give the "its like my 3rd time playing this champ lol" excuse. Don't play champions you are not comfortable on because you seriously handicap your team and yourself for the entire game.
couldn't have said it better myself
No one should go into ranked without playing a champ 2-3 times first in at least bots, if not normals.
agreed
ironically, the first time i picked up yasuo i carried with him. okay ranked and draft they shouldn't really be in, but i think its acceptable to try out new champs in teambuilder.
you do have point, the guy i got matched up with had a pretty bad match-up is his lane too
thats a terrible idea(assuming you're talking about normals)
I'm talking about ranked and draft. If I'm trying to practice for ranked or doing ranked, it really sucks that the game is cost by someone going 0/2 at 4 minutes and then they say "ok this champion has weird mechanics". >.>
why do you assume we know information that you haven't told us? What if Obama one day said "im banning computer usage but i didnt tell you because i assumed you already knew that"
For ranked, w/e practice in normals. For draft, it's still normals so w/e play w/e you want
well i wasn't assume my idea was a terrible one. sorry if i'm wrong to feel this way but i hate losing in scenarios where this could've have gone differently if people just played smart. The Yasuo was 0/2/0 and didn't even try to play safe, then he started roaming after he lost a turret. Sorry I'm not perfectly happy about that
that's his problem. by that i mean, not playing safe would be his problem, as a player. not the fact that he's first time yasuo. What if a 1st time yasuo played safe during a hard lane while an experienced yasuo went ham vs a hard lane and fed this post shouldn't be about playing new champions, but pointing out mistakes made by players. These are two different things
And when I play a bot game and go 50/0 because bots are retarded and I learned absolutely nothing about my character? What then?
Playing a champion for the first time in normals is fucking fine. Ranked is a separate case obviously.
You're not getting the point of what I'm saying. If you enter into a game against perfectly competent people who know their champs better than you, who in the scenario i'm describing, playing a champion for the VERY FIRST time , you're most likely going to lose. So let me ask you, what do you learn from being thrashed by someone who knows exactly what they're doing against someone playing a champion for the first time? The same amount of "nothing" you learn from going 50/0 in bots (which i'm sure you've never done).
At least by playing bots you get some idea of the pace you should go out, how to manage your cooldowns, how much you should and shouldn't push.
Once you've gotten the basics, then you begin to get the more advanced things (which is done in normals). I'm unranked at the moment and my mmr usually lets me play with bronzes and silvers. From what I have seen, I can and WILL be skeptical when someone says they're trying a champion for the first time against people who are usually comfortable and competent on their champs.
If you have even a modicum of skill or knowledge of the game, you dont need to play a bot game to understand how to play a champion.
Many mechanics transfer over entirely between champions, and overall gameplay doesnt change. Your knowledge of last hitting, lane agression, CS trading, etc. etc. all remain. if those are a problem, it doesnt matter if you are playing a new champion, you would lose if you played someone you are comfortable with.
Team builder or with premade of friends works to. Even draft. Just please not ranked.
Bots are really bad to try a champion out for the first time in. At best, you will try out the champion but pick up bad habits in doing so. When you play normals, you get a better feel for the champion because you won't pick up bad habits. At the very least, doing your best to not feed while still contributing to your team seems like the best idea.
At the very least, play a champion for the first time in normals with knowledge of what the champion can do, how to build on the champion, etc. This way, you can get a good idea of whether or not you like the champion or not and how to play the champion, neither of which will you find against bots.
Bots are a great place to learn the mechanics of a champion. Once you have that down, you then move to normals.
That's more of a matter of opinion. I don't think bots are very good for learning mechanics, but others seem to.
Normals are better because you won't get into bad habits in how to use your abilities. There's no sense in learning a champions mechanics if you keep trying to use them in bad ways once you go to normals.
You actually develop bad habits if you go normals first. Take for instance an ADC. Last hitting is the most important skill to have. It's way better to practice it against bots than against an ADC and support who are going to harass the crap out of you and distract you from actually learning when to last hit at different levels and build spikes.
Practicing combos with champs like Riven are MUCH easier to get down going against bots than other players.
I have had people use a champ for the first time in ranked games.
