redistributing shen's utility to make him more able to carry.

Shen is kind of like poppy his ult can bring so much to a team fight that making him shine in other respects would make him op. His ults countermeasure potential is too great throughout the game to also make him able to carry.
So long as Shen ult brings as much to the table Shen’s kit much like poppy’s will need to be subpar. So I think I have a way to tone his ult down without taking away its global presence, while also keeping it strong when used within a certain range. I’m nerfing the global aspect the portion that is really making him too strong. Twisted fate and Pantheon both have had theirs nerfed. Its Shen's turn to get a similar adjustment.

I’m not removing it however thank god. Since it defeats the whole purpose of being top and being able to ult bottom lane.

So recently Shen had his cooldown: reduced to 180/160/120 seconds from 200/180/160. I suggest giving him : 170/150/120 cooldown. Full use of global ult cooldown is increased by... 60 seconds. So it would be 230,210,180. Harsh yes, but needed in exchange for a stronger kit. Ult used from a distance no greater than pantheon/twisted fate ult. Cooldowns are increased by 30 sec So 210,190,150. At a distance no greater than nocturne. No cool down increased.
In comparison teleport has: 300 sec cooldown. Of course the person that is teleporting in will still have an ult to spare, hence why shen ult isn’t completely comparable to teleport summoner. Keep in mind that Shen tends to run teleport creating considerable pressure. Giving pro teams a window that is more or less pressure free is what is needed to tone Shen. And giving his global ult a nerf will achieve this. Meanwhile his close range ults will be unaffected.

Suggestion #2: What if you could let shen fight while he ults. You press r then theres a 1 sec delay press r again and it cancels the teleport and lets you fight. This would only be possible within the inner circle as its really the only time you’ll realistically need to fight while channeling. It would be kind of like a soraka ult except on a single target instead of the whole team. And unlike soraka ult you’ll have to be at the site of combat.

Lucian had a delay on his culling to prevent people from inadvertently cancelling it. This could be added to shen ult. Such that if Shen is nearby team mates he does not have to just sit there and be useless while ulting within the inner circle. It just feels strange standing still in the middle of a team fight when you could be taunting someone/doing work. It makes sense having to channel when you have a great distance to teleport from but not when you're next to your team mate. http://i.imgur.com/djVqeT9.jpg Allies who are inside a circle will be highlighted to indicate which circle they are in.

This is a nerf. A big one. Shen is picked for his ultimate; he is the global pressure tank other tanks beat him out in damage, CC, mobility and tankiness what he does is makes his presence the heck known, engages people who try to mess with carries, and is everywhere at once toning down his ultimate would destroy his identity

Don't look at me look at everyone calling for shen buffs. I'm just the messenger trying to point out that if you want buff on shen you need to address his core attribute.

Thats the whole point. people are calling for shen buffs. To make room for the buffs you have to take away from his current play style. So its a nerf i haven't listed the buffs yet, that's open ended. Any of the countless suggestion that have been made would be up for consideration.

toning down his ultimate would destroy his identity

toning and destroying are two very different words. In a sense its also a buff if you happen to ult when nearby your team then you can fight instead of channeling like a sitting duck.

Shen is balanced its just he's not able to carry as such. and therefore people don't gravitate much to him. You'd think he'd get played in lcs. its just he loses top lane too much imo.

I think you're crazy. Shen, while not overpowered right now, is not in a bad place. He deals enough damage to be relevant, heals enough to sustain through a poke lane, and brings one of the few AoE taunts in the game on a dash. Plus his durability lets him survive a 4-man taunt between their turrets for a hard disengage. Build him AP bruiser and he's durable as he needs to be (That AP ratio on his shield tho), and deals decent enough damage (10% of bonus HP + 110% AP)

That's just it, right now he is relevant because his ult will always be relevant. I'm just trying to have him pack a little more punch in the damage department. Increasing the cool down on his super long distance ult is a concession sure but I think its one that is worth while seeing as what he can get in return.

Try saving your ult for mid and call plays. try using it offensively leave base after shop start walking towards bot lane and let bot lane know your on your way to get in range to ult. If you need to assist team mate you can use teleport just like every top laner do. Once there you can use ult without having to channel and at no penalty cost on ult. In fact if you did that ult CDR would be 10 seconds sooner.

Being able to intervene from across the map should come at a cost. ATM shen can be frustrating to play against if your the enemy bot lane trying to get kills. And always getting --insert explitive--blocked. Because Shen is always at their beck and call particularly if they are in chat together.

Shen doesn't need more damage, he does more than enough damage already if you know how to build him. Shen's identity is his global ult, the fact that he can appear from anywhere and turn a fight into your team's advantage is huge and that's why people pick him. You have no idea of what makes him be him if you even consider nerfing his ult just to give him more damage

Define "carry," please.

I'm thinking of a slightly watered down version of tank irelia. I can see shen as a tank first fighter secondary. Such that in solo queue you'd see a lot of people go semi DPS. whereas diamond you'd see him go tank since at the end of the day no matter what his kit will always synergize better with tankyness.

. And even as full tank hell just be easier to count on on winning out fights than you'd normally expect him to.

Strong enough that it won't be that rare to have to deal with him top by sending more than 1 player to respond to his split pushing pressure.

Right now he's not a big enough of a threat that whoever he's facing will call for backup. At higher elo that is.

Which is what youd want to do, to draw attention away from like say dragon notice them rotating to fight you and have your team apply pressure.

I should have titled this thread like so: Nerfing shen global ult to allow for the many shen buff requests
