How about fleshing out a second ping wheel?

Now I'll just say this first. I thought, when I was first thinking of this idea, that it wouldn't work because the pings don't match, but they don't match in the current wheel either so it's good.

This wheel can have these 4 functions:

  • The current "Enemy has vision" ping

  • A new "Please place a ward" ping. This one is pretty obvious, as if you don't have a ward but you need somewhere to be warded it would be a lot more efficient to get it warded in one click then to have to type in chat "Please put a ward in ____ bush", or using confusing pings to try to communicate it.

  • A new "Nevermind" ping, or something like that. This one isn't as necessary but hear me out. How many times have you pinged missing for your laner to show back up several seconds later, or pinged on your way then had a situation where you couldn't actually come? These are both situations where you'd like to be like "oh nvm" so your teammate doesn't engage a bad fight or do something at a less than ideal time.

  • A new "Thank you" or "Good job" ping, something positive. I know you can just say "gj" or "ty" in the chat but it's nice to be able to give some positive re-enforcement via pings, and it would be a good thing to round out this ping wheel, but if anyone can think of something more useful, which there very likely is, then please leave a comment.

And even if some of these aren't necessarily "needed", it would still be nice to have. I really disagree with the idea that "you don't need chat at ALL if you have pings", which still wouldn't completely be true in my opinion, but this second wheel would almost eliminate the need for the in-game chat, allowing you to focus more on the game more often.

I think we really only need the "Enemy Vision Here" ping added to the wheel, as all of the other features you've listed can be accomplished with the already existing pings, or emotes. Enemy Vision Here is a much needed ping for communication with your team, that it's frankly stupid that you have to keybind it if you want this available.

How can you efficiently ping for someone to ward somewhere? I think the 2 best ways are to ping "On My Way!" or "Enemy Has Vision", hoping your teammate gets the hint, but both of them can be confusing.

Knowing how to ward and where to ward to do your best in your lane is your duty, and no one else's (though Bot gets a free pass since the Support tends to do this job so they can focus on CC), so you really have no need to tell people how and where they should be using their wards. Other things, like the regular ping, as you're saying ward here can suffice, since warding is generally done when you're not in immediate danger and can thus type.

The thing is that like you said, the ping can be very useful in the bot lane for either the ADC or the support, but also in the late game where everyone is running all over the map or you're grouped up and there's a bush that you really want warded, but you just don't have it up, and no one else is warding there. (This has happened to me a lot). And for some people, typing can just be a distraction in general and some players will want to avoid it at all times if possible.

You're making valid arguments for why we don't need this in the game, but do you have any arguments for why it shouldn't be in the game?

Visual clutter and more tools to have to fumble around with, for starters. I don't use the "Enemy Ward Here" ping because it's so buried away in interface that I haven't even bothered to find it and keybind it. It's also much easier to add one panel to the current pie wheel, and have a decent 5 piece pie, as opposed to having an entire extra pie wheel with a who bunch of other pings on it. So just for simplicity's sake, it's better to add the most critical ping that is irreplaceable and much needed (Enemy Ward Here) to what exists, than invent 3 others to make another wheel you have to learn to ping from and or keybind.

But what makes "Enemy Vision Here" any more useful than "Place Ward Here"? I think they serve fairly similar uses and are similarly useful. And you wouldn't have to use the new wheel if you don't want to, it's just for the players that do want it. Also when you say you can't be bothered to bind the "Enemy Vision Here" ping, it kinda invalidates how necessary you think it is.

I like this idea. I've though about wanting more pings for some time. As far as pinging for someone to ward something, I ping my Trinket, and then ping the area that I want warded. You can bind a ping to your mousewheel, which is what I have "Enemy Has Vision Here" on, and it's always been useful for me.

I like this idea. Don't agree that we need a "positive" ping (I feel the free thumbs up emote accomplishes this as well as short acronyms like "gg" "wp" "ty" etc.) but it's a nice thought at least.

I really like the other three though.
