Most people know that removing autofill would be silly, but there's a better solution

Instead of removing autofill, which would make queue times unbearable at times, what I think would help the problem and not cause a detrimental increase in queue times, would be to allow players to put a role that they DON'T want.

For example, I can put primary mid, secondary top, and select Jungle as the role I don't want, and there's no chance that I get that role.

I can play bot and support at an acceptable level, but Jungle is a role where if I get it, I will have to get hard carried or insta-lose the game, or dodge. And I know a lot of other players have a similar thing with different roles.

Unfortunately this wouldn't help the people who can only play 1-2 roles acceptably, but they could always just remove whatever role they feel worst on at the time.

This is by no means a perfect solution, but it's much more reasonable than removing autofill all together, what do you guys think?

They already tried this.

Everyone excluded support and queues were even worse than pre-autofill.

Autofill would not be bad if it actually worked as intended. Getting autofilled in a 30 seconds queue is unacceptable and sadly... It happens!

They could just make it so you can't get autofilled until queue hasn't hit X time which could be at least something that range from 3 to 5 minutes. I don't think people would actually be that mad to wait 3-5 minutes to get in champion select.

You hope you can find a game in 3 minutes, if it doesn't happen you get autofilled as fast as possible and then you are immune for the next few games if it happens.

My queue timers never go past 3 minutes.

Oh, easy, everyone just ban support role, back to 40 minutes queue times.

Lets not pretend this idea wasn't brought up a million times and for some reason it is being upvoted this time

people really need to get over autofill. honestly ya'll complaining about it be ugly as sin.

Idk if anyone told you yet but you are part of these "Most people" in your title. Autofill is here because nobody wanted to play support. Not because people dislike some other roles. The sole reason autofill exists is because people hate to support. Back in the "pick order" days last pick ALWAYS got support, especially in low elo. Nobody (obviously some supp mains existed) wanted to play that boring role. So Riot implemented autofill.

Anybody who played before new champ select knew exactly what was gonna happen once autofill was implemented. And that was getting filled into supp.

Opting out of one role defeats, once again, the purpose of autofill. The majority will pick supp and we are back at long ass Q times. We would go full cycle here. This idea (which btw was brought up a million times by now) would increase Q times drastically.

Autofill should also be made optional.

This was already tested in some smaller regions and it failed because people were excluding support so much that the queue times became insane again.

I disagree, but the fill role needs some improvements. I can play anything decently, but getting thrown into the meet grinder that is jungling every game for 6-7 games straight feels awful, especially when the jungler is basically the most high risk low reward role in the game. Your team basically flames you for existing, matchups basically have to be perfectly for anything other than a top-tier jungler to work, your farm is either ridiculously bad or ridiculously good with the fact that not only does it take you so much longer to farm early, you also need to take objectives and gank lanes, but since vision is so bad right now (for a good chunk of early game you have no wards, then one, and by the time you have two your lack of vision has probably already screwed you over with how important the early game is). Then your success is so heavily determined by your team's skill that it's basically impossible to play anything but q faceroll champion in low and mid elo.

Then there's the fact that not only is your leveling slow and your camps can be taken, on most junglers you're forced to spend an item slot on jg item for most if not all of the game, meaning you have less room to build against people, especially as most champions have 2-3 items that they absolutely need(ex Deathcap on AP champs).

Just make it optional to be protected, and turn it off entirely on ranked.

Ranked is for the win. I already got a bunch of luck factor on the skill of my teammates, and enemies. I don't want more. If i have to wait 10 minutes, then so be it.

Similar to draft. Some people don't care much for wait timers. Their machine is strong enough to play something else they like. I can just play Tropico 6 while waiting, and don't give a damn, if it takes an entire hour.

how about riot calculates ur winrates in every role, then u are least likely to get your lowest winrate role when autofilled

Tarhonyaa10/9/2019, 8:32:48 PM1 votes

What they should do is transparency; show us an estimate of how much we are expected to wait for each role.

Top: 20 seconds Mid: 5 minutes (and likely filled) ADC: 40 seconds Jungler: 10 seconds Support: 1 seconds.

That would surely move some people to try getting into other lanes.

5050BS9/10/2019, 9:55:40 PM1 votes

A better way would be to just rank your roles in order

For me Top, Mid, Support, Jungle, ADC

Riot then filters down that list for each player to place in a match.

Zoeeee9/10/2019, 11:45:16 PM1 votes

I haven’t gotten auto filled once playing as adc. I’m way more concerned about fair matchmaking as apposed to getting auto filled. I think getting auto filled after a x amount of time is fine as long as it’s over the expected que time. I remember having to play all five rolls.

Trias0009/11/2019, 9:09:39 AM1 votes

Wouldn't work. Everyone would just select support.

Hrolfgord9/12/2019, 1:09:20 AM1 votes

Meanwhile in normals I put support main and anything other than jungle as my 2 picks and half the games I get put in jungle, not too mention a few months back it was Jungle that was lowest amount of players. I will play any of the lane roles but when I'm thrown into jungle makes me really just not want to play, I dont find it fun at all and I'm no good at it with no desire to get good at it. I would love an option to opt out of jungle even if that was my only choice, like Fill anything BUT and like primary fill only have that as a single choice option, pretty sure theres alot more people wanting to play certain roles than people wanting to NOT play 1 role

The Kombinator9/12/2019, 8:16:54 AM1 votes

It's pretty much up to each people. Some people wouldn't give a damn, if they had to wait 30 minutes. Others rather get autofilled, than wait more than a few minutes.

I think this should be up to decision. A sort of tick, if you allow autofill, or not.

Pika Fox9/12/2019, 6:53:17 PM1 votes

It would lead to the same results. Autofill exists specifically because the general populace doesnt want to play a specific role.
