@Riot - Is Karma Considered for a Rework at All?

TheySeeMeWardin··9 votes·944 views

Reav3 threw together a list of champs that were considered high priority reworks in the future and while he said that there were more than what was shown, it got me wondering: "Is Karma even on your radar?".

Karma was grouped into the.... Enchanters? Disrupters? (I don't really know which subclass that she would fit into because she has low damage without ult but she also has a weak augmenting ability in my opinion) Anyway, assassins are likely to be updated before this up coming pre-season and it's been hinted that others are next in line (divers and a tank subclass), so enchanters nor disrupters are not likely to receive an update until at least 2018. Is Karma high enough priority that she will be looked at before then or should I not hold my breath? I'm fine either way, although of course I would love to see her reworked, but I just want to know if she's far off into the distance or in the foreseeable future? Thanks!

Before her rework Karma was considered a battle mage. With all the healing and mechanics in her kit before she did really well as that. Riot gutted all of that and now she is a champion with no identity and is only made relevant because of her number buffs. Riot is not addressing the issues with Karma and just putting a band aid on it. Her identity was stripped, her fans taken away, specific things in her kit that made her unique were taken away, her VU was rushed, she still to this day doesn't have a proper running animation, her lore doesn't fit her kit or character right now, and Riot has YET to address her real problems.

Karma was supposed to look like this. Yes this is official Riot art and this was supposed to be Karma. This Karma probably had all of her quotes, running animation, kit animations, and a decent model. We got a rushed and lazy VU.

Karma really only needs true a VU, better looking visuals on her abilities, a proper running animation, and her current passive moved to ult and a new passive. The new passive doesn't even need to change her to the point that she OP. The new passive just needs to give her a identity or something extra . . . . like they did with Tayliah.

It burns me every time I see that concept... we need justice

I think her Mantra-Q should fire a Jade Dragon, since she has one on her leg and one her backpiece. So the skillshot looks like a long chinese style dragon.

I mean anything to give her more character and make Karma's appearance better.

I really hope that when they touch up on her visuals again, they'll add on everything that was omitted in the final product (dragon spirits that she wields, the winged cape attached to her wrists, the jade medallion with the cloth attached to it flowing on the back part of her loincloth, the actual design on the bottom part of the front portion of her loincloth with the orbs at the very bottom). Also, I like that the mantle's supports in the concept art are attached to her shoulders, making it feel like it's a part of her, resembling wings. I don't like how currently she looks like she's dragging some pillars behind her. It looks clunky and takes away from her model's appeal. Either they try and fix it or just make it smaller in size.

Karma is a Battle Mage/Enchanter according to Riot, although Statikk expressed interest in seeing her as an Artillery/Enchanter because of her RQ. I doubt we'll see anything significant happening to Karma this year or next except maybe a buff or two to keep her relevant. I do wonder if/when they get around to looking Karma again what scope her rework will be, I hope it's no less than GP level.

Karma has already been reworked and I think she's in a great spot. She's not underpowered or over powered at all. She does massive burst while building AP and is a fantastic support as well.

I know she can be great, that's why I'm lvl 5 Karma with two tokens for lvl 6 (essence is so hard to come by these days), but I've never played a champ who falls off so quickly into the late game. You're ult q is less impactful, you're ult w is honestly just a waste of an ult, and you're ult e shield doesn't stay up very long and is mostly used for the movement speed. Early game I can wreak face with a ewrq combo but that early game dominance is not enough to prepare you for the hell that is late game. Also a great deal of people believe her to be Riot's worst rework.

Very good point. She's an early game Champion, definitely doesn't scale well into late game. I personally believe the Mordekaiser rework was by far the worst.

Agreed

She is second to Morde. Morde is Riot's worst rework. Karma is in a bad place . . . . . character and identity wise . . . . but from a kit standpoint no . . . . because of her number buffs.

I don't think Riot is happy with Karma, but she isn't problematic.

After over half a dozen straight buffs, she is still middleground and doesn't appear to be leaving it anytime soon. There are also not many skillchecks in Karma's kit, so her skillfloor and ceiling aren't too far appart to cause troubles like Azir, Lee Sin and Zed do. She has no unique effects in her kit, so she can't break any character or matchup, or create some toxic comboes with items or champions.

The only way Karma fails is at having a character and fulfilling her fantasy, but as long as champions like Irelia can also be a complete failure in conveying a "telekinetic spear throwing gal" and champions like WW, urgot, yorick, etc. are still around with their problematic kits, I doubt she will get changed.

I am still hoping for someone at Riot finally getting an idea about her, and something changing. I am starting to painfully miss the spell and concept of shieldbomb....

How is a 14.6% pick rate at MSI "middleground"? Only 28 champions are at least that popular in pro games.

SilverSquid2 votes

I was talking about her winrate.

Due to her skillfloor and -ceiling being so close to one another, she offers a lot of consistency, especially now that her least skill reliant ability (RE) has been supercharged in values. Consistency is something very valuable, even and especially in pro games.

Being picked or not in tournaments doesn't make for a very good argument about whether a champion is well designed or not. Broken champions get picked a lot and well designed & well balanced champions barely see any play.

I have been seeing a lot of good arguments by you, lately. It's a shame we have to disagree again.

KARMA IS FINE! She doesn't need changing, she is fine the way she is. I am sick of people whining about the old Karma, I started playing her post-rework and I enjoy her as she is now. I don't want her to change or for Riot to destroy her like they did Zilean. Kit wise there is NOTHING wrong with her.

but a VU would be good, especially with new vocal interactions and small costume and animation changes.

IxtaliKing1 votes

Tbh the rework itself from 3.5 didn't destroy Karma, it was salvageable for old Karma mains. The 5.10 changes however totally destroyed her character and removed basically all the nuance from her kit. There's a large portion of Karma fans who'll never be satisfied with her current state and for good reason, they've destroyed her for many of us already.

EcchiOtakuTM2 votes

Meh just wish they did something to please the old karma fans the new karma coulda been a different champ.

Karma has basically Sivir Ulti on a basic ability. She sees significant LCK and LPL and probably LCS play.

she seems in a good spot but teamwork dependent.

yeah she lacks damage in the late game because she only has one damage ability, while it has a low cooldown she basically doesn't deal enough damage with just one ability.

Im surprised Aatrox or Tryndamere weren't listed either, there the few champs that are designed worse then MF

Fusarix1 votes

although karma may need a rework... Shes in a pretty got spot compared to other champions that riot needs to change Yorick Ryze Warwick

Bulimia Vomit1 votes

Karma is fine atm, she might need some slight tweaks and maybe a new passive (put her current passive on ult and make it scale with r) but shes not in a bad spot.
