With the Shift to Making Builds More Focused On Building Against Certain Damage... Spirit Visage

Spirit Visage is a core item for tanks and bruisers who rely on healing 90% of the time. There are only a few champions who I can recall who MIGHT not build a Spirit Visage within their first 3 items when playing, namely being Warwick and Swain for a few examples. With the 7.9 Patch Update, Tank items have been changed to rely more on their Armor and Magic Resist stats to be gold efficient and less on health. This means that if the enemy deals physical damage, you are punished severely for building Magic Resist instead and RIGHTFULLY so. HOWEVER, unlike most other Tank items, Spirit Visage's main attraction to buying it is the healing boost and that is a rather generic boost that self-healing champions would want to buy against most opponents since it basically improves their main strength by 30%.

There is an issue with Spirit Visage currently however. Due to Spirit Visage being changed to have less health and more MR, it feels awful to build it as one of your first items against AD since it provides mostly defenses against magic damage. This means that champions who heavily rely on it and are practically balanced around it's existence, such as DrMundo Zac Vladimir Aatrox Volibear have all been made much less effective against AD teams when this LIKELY wasn't the goal in mind. I doubt Riot wanted to push all healing champions to become anti-magic in nature since their core defensive item provides MR instead of Armor. This change has noticeably impacted the win rates of some of these champions as well, especially Dr. Mundo and Zac. Dr. Mundo currently resides as the weakest champion based on win % in Top Lane, having a 43.80% win rate. Zac, along with the weak nature of his rework, has been pushed to be the weakest Jungler with a 40.66% win rate.

Therefore, I recommend that Spirit Visage be changed into a more neutrally stated defensive item rather than a Magic Resist item. Then possibly add another MR item or restat the other MR items as compensation. This would allow Spirit Visage users to build the item against all types of teams and not be innately stronger against magic damage and innately weaker against physical damage.

P.S. We still need to fix the amount of health Spirit Visage gives to be at least equal to it's components.

EDIT: TL;DR I'm not upset that Spirit Visage isn't generalist item. I'm upset that it gives a generalist effect, but not generalist stats.

I could understand it being 450 but outside of that this seems like you are upset about it being less of a generalist item.

Build for what the game calls for.

Not the same thing every game.

I agree with this statement, you should be rewarded for building what the game demands. However, as I said in the OP, these champions are essentially BALANCED around having a Spirit Visage. Therefore, they want to be building it as soon as possible. However, as I said, the item only gives defenses against Magic, making these champions essentially stronger against magic teams than physical teams.

I'm not upset that it's not a generalist item. I'm upset that it gives a generalist effect, but not generalist stats.

They are, but it's not clear since they end at almost the right most edge. I added spacing to help.

We got another MR item already, item 3194 , and a hybrid resists item giving MR too item 3193

I'd be fine with pushing Spirit Visage into a resist focused item, if we made Adaptive Helm give more health and less resists to make up for it. I chose resists over flat health for SV because resists synergize better with heals, making them more effective point for point. Yes, many of these heals are %health, which more health would improve, but a large quantity of flat health is very strong early game, and sustain champions can very easily become oppressive if you can't 100-0 them. Flat health goes a long way to their tankiness, especially early game.
