What's up with Miss Fortune's scaling?

can someone explain it to me?

i've read it a couple of times and i'm still confused by it, her magic damage scales with AD but her physical damage with AP?

Yes, you're understanding that right. She's basically a giant lesson in "NOT EVERYTHING SCALING ON AD DEALS PHYSICAL DAMAGE, NOT EVERYTHING SCALING ON AP DEALS MAGIC DAMAGE."

A lot of people still haven't managed to wrap their head around that concept.

isn't that a little counter intuitive?

A tad, yes. The big thing is autoattacks still have a base 100% total AD scaling, are multiplied on crits, and have potentially a 2.0 second cooldown, so if you see her building AD you know she's going to be dealing physical damage. And they kinda...completely gutted AP MF anyways, so that's not even a possibility worth considering.

then what's the point of having an AP scaling on her ult?

at the very least, i'd think it warrant a dual scaling like KogMaw Ezreal

She already does. It applies Impure Shots, which scales on AD.

They gutted AP MF? o.O

I thought she was still good.

Eeeeeehhhhh...

She's...functional, but very, very suboptimal. Her main strength (Impure Shots) no longer has an AP ratio, which limits her damaging abilities that AP MF actually scales on to her Q (35%/50% AP ratio on first/second hit), her E (80% AP but over 3 seconds on a champ with very poor innate CC), and Ult (160% AP over its duration, and physical damage, which is a tad easier to defend against.) That puts her overall, optimal ratio for her full burst to, at best, 290% AP. Her bases pick up some of the slack, but that's still not fantastic for someone so reliant on enemy positioning. She lacks the reliable DPS that old AP MF had under her belt.

Dammit.

At least she's fun and can take towers faster than your average midlaner :/

Yes, and this is why mss fortune doesn't scale into the late game, in any way. Post level 11 shes garbage

I know this isn't a very popular opinion, but you might try building a little bit of AP to go with your AD. She has up to 290% AP scaling on her kit, so even a little AP goes a long way.

Trinity Force. Miss Fortune is one of the biggest poster children for Trinity Force. That and Statikk Shiv should be your crit items, not Phantom Dancer. Make that Q work for you!

when would i be building trinity? is it a rush on her?

i've always built IE on her first, at least when BT stopped being the go-to first item

Shes not garbage. She is somewhere between Varus and Draven, very powerful but not mobile.

Her ultimate:

  • Deals physical damage which scales on AP
  • Deals magic damage which scales on her AD, since it applies stacks of her W passive.

So it does actually have dual scaling on her ultimate; it's just not quite as apparent as other abilities.

Her W lets her apply on-hit magic damage which scales to a maximum of 30% to 48% (depending on ultimate rank) of her AD. It's not uncommon for MF to deal 125+ magic damage on every autoattack (before reduction), which helps her damage targets with a lot of armor.

The majority of her damage still comes from autoattacks, but she is harder to itemize against compared to many carries since her kit supplies a lot of mixed damage.

I was MIA during Season 2, but apparently back then she did scale more with AD, and that along with Black Cleaver made her incredibly OP. So they changed her scalings, and she's just never really been a viable competitive ADC since then.

She's not really "WEAK", she's just out classed by somebody in everything she does.
