Admit that rework of akali of was a fail

Past one month, the most banned champion: https://imgur.com/294QvGi

While having second worst win rate in the game: https://imgur.com/8WjHm44

This clearly shows that people don't want that champion in their game. Not because of the balance, but because of the design.

That...doesn't showcase it at all?

Win rate when it comes to champions like ryze or akali is meaningless

Akali just needs to be nerfed, she's getting a nerf in next patch, might need more but eventually will end up balanced

when she's 95% banned in d1+ it's not because of design or frustration, it's because of balance just like they balanced thresh after a certain time, akali will end up balanced

her design has nothing wrong, she needs 2 or more second to kill, her cds are high except Q which cost 100 energy, and she's less mobile than pre-rework

Oleandervine1 votes

While I agree with you mostly here, I don't believe for a HOT SECOND that she's less mobile than pre-rework. Her old kit had what, a short blink when she cast her Shroud, and targeted dashes from her ultimate? That's 2 sources of mobility, one of which requires units to operate.

Her new kit lost the blink, but her E now vaults her backwards, which can be used to move over walls, and her ultimate no longer requires targets to be usable, she can dash once, then dash again once the mini-cooldown between them finishes. She's much more capable of mobility in her new kit than she ever was in her old kit.

Then you're wrong.

Oleandervine1 votes

Then explain how her old kit was more mobile.

chipndip11 votes

New kit: 4 dashes. 2 on a shared, long cd.

Old kit: one blink and 3 dashes towards enemies that reset on target kills on a hardly-there cd.

New Akali has target access. Old Akali just stuck to whatever she clicked on and was damn near impossible to escape because she had enough dashes for a whole family. It's actually possible to peel new Akali.

Oleandervine1 votes

I'm arguing that merely sticking to a target doesn't qualify as "more mobility." Sure, you can engage to your hearts content, but your escape options and flexibility of your ultimate are pretty limited. The new kit may have less actual dashes and more downtime, but your flexibility in that you can use then to engage or disengage means that she's capable of a lot more mobility than her old kit ever was.

chipndip11 votes

There's a difference between flexibility and overall mobility options.

If you meant the former, then you're right...but that was the point of the rework anyway, so it's a moot point to make. If you meant the latter, you're wrong, but given what you're saying I don't think you mean the latter.

Old Akali had potentially infinite chase potential by just casting and recasting R, but her flexibility was shit tier. New Akali cuts down on the more bs parts of old Akali (ridiculous in lane sustain and inability to ever be peeled unless she was just straight murdered on sight) for more flexible options. You'd think people would WANT champion designs to be improved on instead of being hyper-potent 1-trick ponies.

Oleandervine1 votes

Then we come to the meat of it - sure, the old kit may have technically had more mobility, but more mobility in a single direction is inferior to slightly less mobility in any direction.

In the scope of how that operates in the game, I'd qualify it as having more mobility to be able to move where you want to when you need to, instead of being able to indefinitely be mobile in a single direction.

chipndip11 votes

Like I told you: It isn't more mobility, it's flexibility. It's stronger given you're good enough to use it properly. It's a skill cap change. Better players will love the change. Worse players may think it's strong, but they can't use it right because they'll fuck up their dashes or run out of them when they're trying to finish up whatever they're doing.

My question is why is this a problem? You should be rewarded for calculated moves and mastering your champion, not mashing dashes on the enemy's head.

Oleandervine1 votes

I never had a problem with it. I was saying her new kit was more superior in terms of mobility than her old kit, albeit not correctly in terms of the technical number of movements afforded by her old kit vs the new.

chipndip11 votes

Oh, then lemme reel in my posts in turn: Her current kit IS superior to her old kit, so if that's what you're observing, then that's true. It pays respect to the difficulty to exploiting that strength, though.

Oleandervine2 votes

That's correct! So while she's got less immediate options to move forward, the fact that she can use her mobility in far more directions than forward makes her infinitely better.

chipndip11 votes

Well, I'm glad we hashed that one out. I'ma just upvote your comment to signify the end of this conversation. Nice chat.

I'm surprised that no one downvoted when you said something right. Normally they do.

just like they balanced thresh after a certain time, akali will end up balanced

that is a bad thing to say... yes they balanced thresh, but how long did it take them?

they still haven't balanced Yasuo let alone Ryze Azir Irelia TahmKench Shaco

saying "give them time" and they'll "work it out" doesn't work

i don't think her rework was that bad IMO, however i do think your excuse of "give them time" is a horrible one

chipndip11 votes

They have balanced Yasuo.

And Irelia.

And Kench.

Fuck Shaco.

People are scared to play against her because they believe she's broken, but try her, trust me she's super difficult to play

''muh design''. No shes a bit overtuned, too high of base stats. Some people have mastered her (hence her 60.07% top akali worldwide winrate which is very good). Look at Diamond+ stats for 8.17, she has a 51% winrate there.

SugeMinPikk1 votes

This is probably data from all ranks. Akali is a hard champion. Her bronze and silver winrates (that's, what, 70% of the playerbase?) are 42% and 43%, respectively. Her plat+ winrates in KR have crept up to 47% mid and 50% top without any nerfs or buffs.

Similarly, Camille has a 45% winrate in silver and a 43% winrate in bronze. Doesn't mean she's a bad champion. She's just hard to play.

Azir: 43% S; 42% B; 47% P+; 55% M+

Only problem with new akali is that what they did to her shroud is completely game breaking. The rest of her kit is completely fine. The Shroud though is to large, give to much vision (hide from turrets hehe xd), & he also expands. That is her problem

The problem is not her skillful E + R or her spammable Q. The Q is laughable while alone.

She is some kind of AP Yasuo. A kit that is so damn overloaded that it actually hurts her.

Her kit, like Yasuo's has everything. Waveclear, sustain, engage, cc, gap closer, means of running away, some kind of blocking incoming stuff.

The trade off lies in what she can actually do with that kit. Because like Yasuo that is very one dimentional. She can go in and that's it. She has no poke like Zed or Diana or any kind of pre engage tool like Fizz. Her E and ultimate are her engage tools and at the same time her disengage which means that she needs one of these available just in case. Her W is nice and all, but it does keep her in an area.

I am disappointed in the new Akali because her passive has such a great potential to turn her into a bruiser or chip assassin, but she turned to be the same as before with a trade-in for more outplay potential while massivly increasing the (prior non-existing) skill-gap
