"Support you are trash, get off my lane"

Craft Zeppelin··85 votes·4,412 views

Well this was said by my ashe who did not back at 10% health while i was requesting her to back, and a zac just walked in our tower and killed her. I managed to kill the support by hooking her as thresh and the results were "Support you are trash, get off my lane."

So I did. I roamed top. And then, well she screamed on the top of her lungs in allchat, she was on a 30cs deficit against lucian report thresh. I just said, "You said get off my lane, so I obeyed your orders. I thought you were confident enough you can CS vs a lucian zyra duo 1v2. Im actually surprised you are not winning lane."

sigh...I got my midlaner fed though. But these adcs who are entitiled just seriously breaks my heart playing support. It seems not even worth supporting them.

Support is definitely one of the hardest roles in SoloQ (I would say the hardest right behind Jungler) because of stuff like this. The best you can do is just mute them as soon as they seem toxic.

Yeah but in some instances, I dont even want to be near their game avatar. Like really

I mean that's fair if you just sit in lane like you do with ADC. If you kill tower to end laning or roam around setting up ganks and pressure though you're barely taxing any EXP.

I was a weak Zilean. Draven and I were both doing terribly, so he told me what a trash support I was and how he would be better off without me. I wasn't strong enough to make any good plays but it made me angry to lane with the Draven so I left him.

If it was bad I'd of left too. Even if you're at a gold deficit Zilean can still buy mobis and charge a tear and land stuns and save people. You might as well help somebody on your team if Draven won't let you help him.

That Draven was probably the most toxic player I'd ever seen. He was your stereotypical rager, the type you hear stories about. Blaming support for everything, proclaiming himself god and calling himself a plat smurf, insulting the enemy Kog'Maw for being trash (despite Kog being like 4/0/1), asking Kog'Maw to 1v1 him, insulting Annie for babysitting Kog'Maw (Annie is the support), calling for surrender at 20, ragequitting for a few minutes, etc. That was the first time I actually got a notification for getting someone punished from my Reports. I remember complimenting him for having better cs than Kog'Maw despite us dying. I was trying to improve his mood so that he wouldn't be tilted for the rest of the laning phase, since this was at about level 3. About two minutes later when we died again, he started complaining in all chat and Kog'Maw called him bad. He replied, saying that Kog was terrible and that he had better cs than him. He used my compliment as a way to flame the enemy marksman. [zombie-brand-mindblown]

When another player starts insulting you and destroying your whole team's playing experience, neither you, nor any of your teammates are under any obligation to sacrifice your own enjoyment to ensure that player's game is enjoyable. Try and win, for yourself and your teammates. But that ADC's KDA is -not- part of the victory conditions.

What's worth more to you: winning the game or making a point? If you want to win the game, mute your trash-talking ADC but remain in Bot lane and continue doing your best to help them in spite of themselves.

If you just want to make a point, sure, roam and help other lanes, and leave your ADC alone 1v2, that will teach them. But just so you know, if you do that, I'm reporting you too, no just the trash-talking flamer.

Well, honestly I tried to contribute on both sides. I did not want to invest my time on a adc who stays lane at 10% hp who knows there is a zac waiting in the bush for 15 seconds. Playes like this feed no matter what. Im not a babysitter, dont have the patience and support is not strictly assigned on botlane it is a teamrole.

If the adc demands me to get off. I do my job elsewhere.

DeathBurst1 votes

Never said support is strictly assigned on botlane, but if you leave someone 1v2 during laning phase, what do you think is gonna happen?

TimX24968B14 votes

I would just tell them at that point "well, you asked for it". Its like the story i was told about how my friend punched his sister because she told him "nah, you won't do it. you're too scared." then proceeds to run and whine to her dad, who just told her "well, what did you expect? you kinda deserved it..."

At least one of them was fed, and probably less retarded then the adc. Don't try to defend that asshole, even if he DID stay, ashe would STILL have died over and over, and flamed their team.

Starcraft243ver6 votes

While I agree with you,

Sometimes your adc is so bad it's better to actually feed and protect another of your carry during the teamfights.

If you have a fed yi, yasuo, cassio, it might be interesting to support them instead of your adc.

DeathBurst2 votes

During the team-fights, I totally agree with you. But leaving someone to lane 1v2 during the early-to-mid game is another thing entirely.

Then i guess you should report every jungler that, by the same reasoning, is not going to help someone who is flaming and feeding. Or every mid/top who decided quite equally to never help such people.

DeathBurst2 votes

Well, if I see a Jungler purposefully backing from a fight they could have won just because they don't want to help someone else, yes I am indeed reporting them too.

I'm not saying you should blindly follow a flamer in a 2v4 and give the enemy team 2 free kills instead of one. But if you are making decisions that handicap the team's chance of winning just to spite another player, you deserve a report, even if that other player is a flamer. And I do believe that leaving someone to lane 1v2 is handicapping the team's chance of winning.

Anastaecia8 votes

You are assuming that you know that would handicap the game. Maybe trying to supp a bad bot is handicapping the game, because your man power could be used elsewhere more effectively. If you know what exactly handicaps what and when, you should be coaching pros.

Go ahead and report. Why would I remain in a lane that does not want me? I've left to help top or mid get fed. Followed the jungler up on his ganks. If my adc doesn't want me, the rest of my team does.

DeathBurst2 votes

Why would I remain in a lane that does not want me?

Because if you already lost lane, in order to win, your team has to stall the mid-game and wait for late-game when kills are less relevant. And to win in late-game, 95 times out of 100, you need a functional ADC with at least some amount of farm. Farm that your flamer ADC will never get by himself if you abandon him 1v2. So mute him, report him after the game, but as long as the game hasn't ended, stick to him and try to make the best out of a bad situation for your own sake and the other 3 players' in the team.

Krigjer5 votes

stick to him and try to make the best out of a bad situation for your own sake and the other 3 players' in the team.

Screw that. In every instance where I've been told to 'get the fuck out of MY lane' by my adc and I roamed to help the rest of my team, it resulted in a win. Which is why I say to go ahead and report me for it. Nothing will come of it because it's happened so infrequently I'm not even worried. Besides: who's actually going to be punished, me for saying 'I'm just trying to help you' to my adc or the adc calling me all manner of insults because a play went wrong?

And I KNOW you said to mute and report, but that's what I'm getting at here.

Teridax682 votes

As a jungle main, it is my job to quickly assess each player and gauge how much my intervention in their lane will benefit the game. When a player is clearly being toxic and repeatedly making poor decisions, I choose to ignore them and focus on helping my other teammates, because aiding that person is unlikely to generate positive returns, and helping others will be much more worth my and my team's time. In OP's situation, the Ashe player was refusing to cooperate with their own support and making decisions that got themselves killed: had OP stayed to help them, they would have been unlikely to stop them from falling behind, and at worst would have simply fed more kills to the enemy bot lane. By roaming to another lane and creating a 2v1 situation in their favor there, OP managed to cut their losses somewhat and create a valuable lead elsewhere.

It's situations like these that show some of the double standards in bot lane: the crux of your argument relies on how it's bad to leave the ADC in a 1v2, but the support themselves created a 2v1 elsewhere, which had the potential to snowball even harder than with a player who was behind. In pro play, some teams will laneswap just to force unbalanced lane numbers and catch their opponents by surprise. Acting like leaving the marksman in a 1v2 is the end of the world, when the support is still contributing elsewhere in a manner the opposing team cannot, due to having their support in bot lane, is a part of toxic League culture that biases in favor of marksmen and against the support. For sure, doing so without communicating to your team might not be so great, but in this case the marksman literally asked for it.

DeathBurst1 votes

The culture is definitely not biased against the Support... Most people agree that Supports are nice guys and that Marksfolks are spoiled brats, including me.

The metagame is heavily biased in favor of Marksfolks, and I'm not particularly happy with it (as one of the few people that actually played and liked Morde bot), but it's not because I don't like it that it's not true.

Between a fed Marksfolk and a fed Midlaner, I know what I'm more worried about, and it's not the Midlaner. Yeah, in theory, the Support roaming elsewhere could win more than he loses by abandoning his Marksfolk. In practice, they better make a couple godly ganks, because otherwise it's not worth it.

And comparing a roaming Support to a Jungler is a bit misleading. The Jungler is always providing a number advantage, and he doesn't create a number disadvantage by not going to a given lane if he thinks it's not worth his time. The support roaming leaves someone 1v2.

Most people might agree in theory on the Boards, but when it comes to in-game situations that changes completely. We're still in an environment where supports have their builds scrutinized by the rest of their team more than any other player, and get lambasted for not rushing a Sightstone, or not building Locket/Redemption, or not sticking to their marksman the whole laning phase, or not simultaneously roaming to ward and hanging around their team for clutch saves afterwards. Every high-profile case of a player getting banned for an unconventional playstyle came from supports wanting to do slightly different things, like picking a non-support to support, and roaming more on a champion not commonly thought to do so. This is the culture that's directly responsible for support being the least popular role in the game, while the bot lane marksman role experiences no such problem.

{quoted}

In general, yeah, it's better for the support to hang around the marksman until the laning phase ends, and even after that, but OP's situation was where the general rules broke down. Between a toxic, tilted marksman and a competent, cooperative midlaner, even if you factor power curves and all, OP objectively made the right choice, and worked well with what they had.

{quoted}

And comparing a roaming Support to a Jungler is a bit misleading. The Jungler is always providing a number advantage, and he doesn't create a number disadvantage by not going to a given lane if he thinks it's not worth his time. The support roaming leaves someone 1v2.

That is true, but also not relevant to my point. I brought up my experience as a jungler to highlight the fact that, as a more supportive role, it is important to assess your teammates and arbitrate in such a way that you are maximizing your own effectiveness by helping out the right player. That doesn't mean the support should ditch the marksman for the first teammate who gets a kill or whatever, but in cases as stark as the one the OP mentioned, there's a clear advantage in helping someone else out, even if it means abandoning bot lane.

You're also missing the second part of the point I had made here, which is that while the support generates a 1v2 in bot lane by leaving it, they also generate a 2v1 in whichever lane they join. What I'm trying to point out here is that you're putting special emphasis on the 1v2 bot lane, yet are completely ignoring the 2v1 elsewhere, because that stems from a culture where the marksman is entitled to have another player play servant to them, and where if the support leaves lane to help someone out, it's an aberration because the marksman is supposed to be the only player for whom their services are reserved early on. At the end of the day, there are still 5 players on each team trying to work to win, it just so happens that bot lane in League is where 2v2s happen most often. Threatening to ban a player for "abandoning" their teammate when they're helping another is a pure product of a culture of entitlement that has formed over that aspect of the game.

DeathBurst1 votes

yet are completely ignoring the 2v1 elsewhere, because that stems from a culture where

No, I'm completely ignoring the 2v1 elsewhere and that stems from a meta-game where a functioning marksman is a necessity to win in late-game. And if bot lane already lost hard, you won't win in early game, and you're at risk to let them snowball in mid-game.

Teridax682 votes

You are yet again proving my point. Yes, typically a marksman's late-game curve is important to win a match, but if the team gets snowballed on too fast for that phase to happen, helping them when they're behind isn't such a great idea. By contrast, helping out the mid laner instead could offer significantly greater relative benefits, even if it's not generally optimal. The fact that you hide behind a very narrow definition of the meta to justify your decision to try to ban another player from the game for helping another teammate shows that you not only participate in this toxic culture, but adhere wholly to it and are willing to perpetuate it.

OMGSoAnnoying2 votes

As a fellow jungle main, have my upvote.

If a lane is feeding, I'm never there. Why? Because I'll just end up feeding them more.

Example? I had a game a few days ago, enemy had an Evelynn jungle. Bot lane continued to push the wave over and over without any control wards or vision, and Eve would literally jump out of one of the lane bushes on the bottom and kill them, then go back in the bush, wait for them to do it again, and repeat. Or the enemy Bard would just give her a MJ and deliver her right to our bot laners.

If it happened once, ok. Twice? Eh, it can happen. When you have the exact same scenario happen to you FOUR TIMES in FIVE MINUTES... well, no. Sit under your tower and farm. Give up the tower and fall back if you need to. But there's nothing I can do when the adc is being bursted down in less than a second. It doesn't matter how close to the lane I am.

If you're behind, play defensively and for the love of all that's holy, vision the living hell out of your approaches. If you need extra extra warning, drop wards farther up the river or at junctions behind you so you can see the collapse coming. The life you save will be your own.

Need Gold 4 Tent3 votes

This is another thing that irks me. When I am playing a lost bot lane, I know when to gtfo the turret. But somehow my lane partner tries to stand ground on a turret that is going to go down in another ~10 autoattacks. You don't back off only when the turret falls, because the dives happen usually about 3 autoattacks before it falls because the minions will take care of the remaining sliver of hp while the enemy support is tanking the last few shots (which, given the current state of turrets, isn't much).

A lot of deaths would've been preventable with just backing off a lot earlier, as the turret isn't going to be saved anyway and you just gave a free +300 on top of the turret gold.

Singed was banned due to a lack of communication. He queued support and played jungler. People went into the queue thinking they'd have a normal 5v5 comp and end up losing a lot or just having an insanely frustrating gameplay having to 1v2 in the bot lane and basically not being able to play.

I don't really know why Singed didn't just queue top/jungle

The Singed was doing it even when it wasn't the time iirc. If you're leaving your ADC to 2v1 against Lucian and Alistar while the wave is crashed, Mountain Drake is up, and the enemy Lee is walking bot, you deserve to be banned on the spot.
