Can somebody explain what there is to stop people from abusing next year's ranked system?

From what I understand, you will have different rankings depending on your role, but won't this just mean everybody will switch their roles at champ select to give the team the best chance to win?

I dont know what you are talking about, but rank depending on role will give league the final death blow

The fact that if someone wanted to "abuse" the system, smurfing would be much easier.

RIOT don't even know this. They stated in the article that they let this information out early so the player base can pose their opinions and hopefully help them figure how it all will work. Most of the opinions you will read on these boards will be of the whiny, bitchy, moaning type though instead of constructive ones.

well, also, if they use a similar metric to how they have been combatting smurfs, what will happen is that you're wr in the role you're selected for will go up faster if you're crushing games, so the system will up your rank faster until you're at your proper level. This also means that in games where you actually want to improve at that role you'll be facing more difficult opponents since you've basically boosted that role's winrate. Also it requires you to get the person in the role you want to switch with you, which even in duo is not guaranteed.

We’re solving a number of other edge cases like these, including position swapping in champion select or in game, and we’ll talk more about our solutions for those in future updates.

They are aware of the problem, but we don't know yet how they'll combat it.

The system is set up to do that to smurfs. You can't combat them. They have existed since the beginning of gaming and will always exists. They just can't keep crushing people unless they throw games because they will be pushed out of the current bracket faster like the system does to everyone or is supposed to.
