Welcome to Season 8, where a champion who used to be feared for her raw damage is now one of the lowest damage dealing champions.

What is Riven even supposed to do? Riven's only job is to skirmish and deal damage, but she can't even do that anymore.

considering that Irelia Akali and Yasuo are rank 35, 36, and 37 out of 43 mid lane... I dont think damage dealt alone shows how much damage a champ can do. maybe riven just oneshots everyone and wins the game at minute 20 so she has less damage dealt lul

Bad Riven Players + Ending the Game Faster

Bad Riven Players + Ending the Game Faster

So you're telling me that since she's part of the bottom 7 champions, that players above diamond are bad at Riven? I find that quite hard to believe. Also, ending the game faster would imply that every champion would be dealing less damage as it effects everyone in the game. All champions would be dealing less damage, but that's not the case.

If Riven were strong (op, busted, whatever people call it), she would deal a lot more damage at lower tiers. This also isn't the case, as there's only about 100 variance between tiers. Damage is really the only stat you can look at with Riven because that's her primary design, is to deal damage. Win rate is questionable (and she doesn't have a good win rate even at her highest, which is about 50%) because it's linked also to what champions she is playing with or against.

The game has evolved and shifted to the point where Riven is becoming more and more obsolete. She has been on a downhill slope since season 6, and this is maybe not the worst (she was at 48% win rate above diamond before Riot buffed her a few times) but still a really terrible spot for a champion who's only objective is to deal damage and fight enemies.

Where are you getting your stats? They seem off by literally every website I look at. Proof please.

Bronze: 49% win rate. https://champion.gg/champion/riven/Top?&league=bronze

Silver: 47% win rate. https://champion.gg/champion/riven/Top?&league=silver

Gold: 48% win rate. https://champion.gg/champion/riven/Top?&league=gold

Plat: 49% win rate. https://champion.gg/champion/riven/Top?&league=plat

Above plat: 50% win rate. https://champion.gg/champion/riven/Top?&league=platplus

I don't see any 52% win rate anywhere on this site, and it's by far the most accurate of all the analysis websites.

op.gg says Riven has a 49% win rate in Korea. http://www.op.gg/champion/riven/statistics/top

League of Graphs, says Riven has a 49% win rate as well. https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/riven

Matchup.gg says Riven has a 50% win rate currently http://matchup.gg/champion/Riven/TOP/

You can't just pull shit out of no where without evidence. No major analysis websites support anything you said.

Now that I think more about it, I think Riven’s Low damage comes more from Macro and less from her actual consistency. Ivern, for instance, is a bad champion. Riven however has crazy Lane prescence and can bully many people out of Lane and get a lead. The damage probably drops off hard late game, where players are, in general, farming less meaning more teamfights. This means riven comes in contact with more CC, and thus her damage is prevented.

I think that can be attributed to more cheesey top laners being meta like Urgot who can just dick on melee champs. Though honestly idk why she's got such low damage. I'd say this tho, riven being able to just straight run people down in lane should almost never be a viable option unless it's against someone with shitty laning. The cost for damage should be a hit to mobility. If im an immobile champion, and you out damage AND outrun me, i now have to play the game in constant fear of just being murdered with no counterplay. Where as if I can out damage you but not outrun you. You just have to ward and be wary of me, but can play further extended and CS while still being safe. A champion who can determine when they interact with other champs is not healthy design IMO.

My best guess is, the issue doesn't lie within Riven's damage but more likely within her ability to survive. Since everything and anything deals damage, Riven really has to pick fights carefully because her shield simply isn't what it used to be. When Riven engages her shield is the only form of escape she has, and even that isn't enough to keep her healthy.

If you look back at the patch notes, Riot keeps increasing her health regen, which is a sign of what I previously mentioned. I'm pretty sure this is purely because Riot is afraid of backlash from the community if they did something like put damage reduction on her E, or re-vamped her passive to also heal a portion of her health. These are things that would help Riven, but also would make the the player base cry for Riven nerfs once more, since she's always been a champion that many players do not like.

I feel like this might also be the case. When runes dropped and I tried to run riven the usual way, I would get blown up before doing meaningful damage. When I started to run after shock, or bone, or aery, it made a huge difference. The damage reduction and shielding allowed for enough time to put more damage in.

Well, they reworked her lore so she's more of a pacifist now.

Everything you are saying is basically irrelevant when you consider she has an insane winrate for her pickrate and her winrate with mains is challenger tier.

This is like saying vlad is bad when he statistically is not even close.

Thats good mobility damage and shield spamming shouldnt go hand in hand

And? Last i checked damage wasnt the only metric in LoL.
