Glacial Augment?

Barkley··1 votes·11,545 views

I have literally never seen this keystone used, and I can't think of anyone who'd benefit from it.

I personally am not even interested enough in it to go try it out in practice mode, because it just seems boring.

Does anyone use this? Is there a champion its good on? Has anyone ever seen it in a non-troll game where people are actually trying to win?

Legitimately curious, no bullshit. All jokes aside. Serious as a heart attack, not trying to be a douche.

Edit: Another question... does Chilling Smite proc the ice ray or whatever?

Try using this keystone on everyone.

And then build some active items.

Tell me what you think about it after 10 games.

I don't have the time to put into it if it ends up being not viable or boring. Then its just a big waste.

Hence me asking other people if they've tried it. If I was that interested in it, or had the time to putz around with it, I would have by now.

But sadly I don't. School, 2 kids, wife, job... I'm lucky if I get to play 2-3 games a night. Especially with it being finals time right now.

I'd rather use that time playing with my friends in actual, meaningful play.... not running around trying stuff that may or may not even be viable. Like I said, I've never seen it literally ever, so my guess is that its just not viable.

It's pretty strong actually. And very underrated. It's reliability is pretty niche though.

If it can be proc'd by chilling smite, I can think of a few junglers who could benefit from it. Shyvana comes to mind. basically any jungler who has good base damages, but has trouble sticking to targets.

Was also thinking about it on BORK vayne. But I don't play vayne. I just thought about it, because it'd help her stick to targets to get more silver bolts off.

It just seems like other runes are better options. Press the attack is great on shyv, and she can just use exhaust. Vayne really doesn't NEED to slow people down, since she has a move speed buff anyway + the BORK slow.

So IDK. Just seems like in any situation (or on any champ) I can think of for taking this keystone, another keystone is just plain better.

No.

She actually doesn't need any help right now with that.

Regardless of champion, its a pretty decent gank tool, especially when paired with chilling smite.

Ive tried it on these and its not too bad Graves Udyr Volibear Elise

Barkley2 votes

Yeah but what active item are you using to proc the ice ray thingy?

Seems like a waste if you're only using it for the on-hit.

xShiNjiNx2 votes

Why would it be a waste? It's practically a free FrozenMallet. It sets up Elise's E very well, Lets Graves chase targets down early without needing blue smite. And Udyr and Voli can have additional slows in a team fight instead of just being flip/stun bots that soak up damage. I'm not saying it's my fav keystone for these guys.. But it does work.

They advertised it on Gnar as one of the 5 useful builds. I faced it once. It wasn't bad. The autoattack proc is just fine for slowing, probably better than the active, anyway. It makes for a reliable way to land your kit and hold pressure on the enemy. As an example on Gnar, it procs every time you give the enemy 7 seconds of space (down to 4 seconds late), so the enemy has even heavier zoning from minions in order to stay safe from the auto-Q-auto combo, which is basically a Hyper proc every time. On top of that, Gnar gets the heavier bonus from melee form. I imagine other stackable champs generally benefit as well, such as TahmKench Ekko Mordekaiser . It simply makes their hard-to-hit combos that much easier to land.

The active part would be a stronger slow, but I consider it the weaker part since it has a humongous cooldown by default (item cooldown), and it's a generally excessive slow unless you can find more power than the enemy going down the inspiration tree. You might be able to build it stronger with the Domination Item Cooldown rune, but I think the auto proc is better in most situations, particularly to get a grip on an enemy during laning phase. If you don't abuse it during laning, I don't think you'll have the best of luck with it.

very good sticking to kitey adc's as Akali

I use the glacial augment rune cause of her active item synergie. I took it on supps which hasnt a main rune like rakan taric and thresh. I go for the domination tree second for extra item cdr. The build (the best champ for it was rakan) was to build the red sighstone early in combination with hextech glp. The item has a cd of 45 seconds and with the max item cdr it is only 15.75 secs like some normal spells. You can spam it and now you are an supp with an 2 item poweespike. The strange of the item isnt that bad cause you have an aoe 80% (i am not sure about this number) slow and then a 50%slow after this. The biggest problem on this itembuild is you arent that much tanky like your normal build so your late isnt so good. And the champs master yi, olaf and riven are hardcounters to this itembuild. The reason which make the rune that much underatet is that you have to go for a other itembuild. (Sry for my bad english it isnt my main language)

I use it on Gangplank jungle. It allows his point-n-click Parrrley to be a slow whilst he sets up a barrel combo to proc another slow for ganking.

Ive seen teemo's take it to improve kiting, plus if you go that w/ domination secondary for cheap shot (on teemo at least) you can start e and just hard win autoattack trades b/c your first AA slows and the poison dmg from E procs cheap shot.

Its very much about the utility, if your champ wont benefit much from getting a slow on your first auto then youre probably better off taking something else.

I have a build for tahm kench support that I play with it works pretty well.

Need Gold 4 Tent1 votes
  1. It synergizes with Approach Velocity.
  2. With that synergy, kitable champs become very very sticky (think pre-6 Yi, Shyvana, maybe Morde).
  3. Going so deep into the inspiration tree, you also get +300g (boots) and future market (useful for triforce power spikers)
  4. As with any setup paired with inspiration, you get a shitload of AD/AP/AS depending on what you paired it with instead of the mixed stats, which is better IMO.

A few champs I run it on:

Yi - Bot lane Yi becomes quite OP when paired with a support. Nearly confirmed firstblood by level 2 every game. Jungle Yi suddenly can gank properly at level 3. Run with Celerity/Nimbus cloak for huge AD boost when ulting (and proc'ing Approach Velocity). Also typically builds BoRK.

Shyvana - Ganks decently with it. Sometimes builds BoRK too. Never tried lane.

Seen Sirhcez run it on Nasus, but don't see why it's useful since Wither OP.
