Mid Lane Ezreal and Runeglaive

Ezreal being able to benefit off of Runeglaive and Smite seems to be a bit on the overpowered side. It's not the item itself, (well kinda) but its the fact that his super low mana costs make him able to spam spells at the enemy without really having to feel the consequence of bad/careless aim. I'm actually completely fine with Runeglaive, but if there was some way to limit Ezreal's casting in the early/mid game, (make it like a Kog'Maw ultimate where each successive spell increases mana cost) then I think a lot of people will stop complaining about Ezreal's useage of Runeglaive.

What are your thoughts?

ezreal is an adc in the first place. if you would limit him you would nerf his midlane but you would also nerf him as adc and imao he is weak enough :'D. The only way nerfing him is drastically nerfing his ap scalings

Which is something I'd be open to. My point here is that his itemization with Runeglaive works way too well for him and it can tend to make him an overpowered mid laner. His whole package really just beats the meta right now. Considering he has Runeglaive on: Q - Low cooldown, low mana cost, high damage skill shot, that can totally be spammable. W - High damage lane harass skill shot that bypasses minions E - Secondary Flash R - Global Ultimate

You honestly really can't beat that package.

Ezreal just needs to be redesigned. He is literally the most braindead champion design in the game.

How a champ with 3 skillshots in his kit is braindead? ryze pre rework was braindead champ (with point and click spells) master yi is braindead champ, but not ez.

I think you are confusing low skill with braindead. I wasn't saying Ezreal was low skill like Ryze (using your example). I was saying his kit is simply braindead in design. It's just endless skillshot spam. It takes skill to use his braindead kit, but it's still braindead.

i think what was being insinuated was that Ezreal can be played in a brain dead way, but incur little consequence, hence what I was saying. His low mana costs give less incentive for people to aim and make their shots count. Let's look at Kog'Maw's ultimate. Where he will lose more and more mana the more he uses it in succession. Then let's look at Ezreal's Q, which does comparable (or even more) damage with items equipped, and he has little consequence for not making his shots count.

What you say makes a small amount of sense though. I think the devs intend for Ezreal to be able to be played AP. Before Runeglaive ever came out, he was mainly played in an AD role, and sometimes he would be played AP mid for fun, but as soon as the item came out, AP Mid Ezreal has been rampant. I don't think he needs to be redesigned, I like the fact that he's practically a "skillshot only" champion. It's just the fact that he's the only champion that can get away with laning with a jungle item and take complete advantage of it. If Riot wants to keep this new itemization meta on Ezreal, at least limit his capabilities.

Ezreal has a 28-40 mana cost on his 6-4 second Q which procs Runeglaive that does more damage than it probably should. Runeglaive really just works TOO well on Ezreal giving him 50 AP, 200 mana, and 10% cd reduction. Also dishing out 100% base ad damage, with 30% AP as well on a 1.5 second cooldown. It also restores 8% mana when empowered. In short Ezreal is practically doing Nidalee spears with his Q with Runeglaive.

How so? He has 3 skillshots and one RNG ability, it is not like annie who "proc stun, use R then all abilities, if they die good, if not wait till R up" so saying a champion that has the ability to kite while having to simultaneously land skillshots is braindead is just wrong. Vlad is braindead, Annie is braindead, Garen is braindead because these champions have a linear playstyle and there is not much you can do with them.

All he does is spam skill shots. How is that not braindead?

So every champ in the game is braindead? All you need to do with Viktor is spam skillshots, all you need to do with azir is spam soldiers, all you need to do with zed is spam your combo.

There is a big difference between playing against an AP Ez who just spams skillshots and an Ez who actually plays him well and can Land those skillshots rather than just aimlessly spamming them.

Dude, all Ezreal has in his kit is straight line skill shots that do damage. If you don't get how rudimentary that is as a champion design I don't know what to tell you.

I've always had the opinion (and this goes for Kog'Maw too) that Full AP Ezreal is incredibly toxic in design. It has low interaction (spam Q, W, E or alternatively just half health someone from base with R) and it is incredibly hard to punish. I've always been generally fine with it outside of ARAM and Dominion where it's never really been viable/popular. But right now I stick with my past statements that AP Ezreal (and Kog'Maw) shouldn't even exist. Gut their scaling as AP Mages because they're actually becoming problems now.

They were made as AD Carries/AD Casters and that's all they should be.

As soon as a champion is having more success with their unintended build paths than their intended build paths, they should lose the privilege of having said unintended build path in the first place.

It's the exact same deal with AD Off-Tank/Bruiser and Tank Fizz right now.

I think this problem only exists with Ezreal. Ezreal mid right now has the highest ban rate, and does the most damage of any other champion in game as stated by Champion.gg

Wtf no.

Ezreal's kit is designed around him casting his shit as soon as it's off CD.

Doing this just fucks him. Hard. And not in the right way. He needs that spam ability to function as an AP OR AD carry.

Ezreal's kit is designed around him casting his shit as soon as it's off CD as an ADC. Not as an AP mid. When we're talking about an Ezreal who goes mid, and uses Runeglaive, which restores mana as well as gives mana. This ends up being exploited when you have an Ezreal who absolutely gets off on Runeglaive, and ends up being a bit overpowered in the mid lane. Ezreal's spamming ability as an ADC is a joke compared to his spamming ability as an AP Mid. Items like Lich Bane end up being an afterthought compared to the more affordable and efficient Runeglaive.
