Do Skins Affect Your Gameplay?

Brendy Bear··6 votes·4,867 views

For me personally, I've found that using skins make me play differently, but only slightly. I've noticed that playing Project Lucian makes me play a bit better. I'm more comfortable with the design, and the sounds and visuals make it easier for me to look at.

How about you guys? Do you guys notice anything?

Nunu bot on either team automatically puts me on tilt.

I perform 36% poorer with Winter Wonder Lulu because I'm busy staring at the flying poro.

Warrior Princess Sivir makes me feel like Xena , and her Boomerang Blade ( Q ) looks smaller than the other versions of it , making it more satisfying when you hit an enemy with the edge of it ! So I go like a Warrior to wreck teams , with no fear of death ! Confidence OP!

Red Riding Annie looks so cute that no one knows what a mistake they did facing ME!!! "Deleted by a little girl , HA!". Many people want to jump and kill me , but it will be their blood the one that will touch on my little red hood!

Arctic Warfare Caitlyn is one of the skins I bought because of the place I live in. It also made me feel like I'm playing a real sniper that would shoot you in the middle of nowhere. From times to times , when I play ARAM , I throw a joke at the start of the game saying in all-chat "Bow to me... I'm the real Queen of Freljord!". It is funny how some people react to it , especially Ashe players xD

Traditional Karma makes me feel like I play... Karma. I tried once her new model , but it just didn't fit me. The Ying-Yang synergy with her kit makes me feel her true balance . Also , in her dance she uses her old dusty fans , which represented a big part of her old fanciness. I still play her after the rework , and I still find her a cool champion to play. This skin kinda made me accept the rework much easier , and makes me feel calmer than I usually do with other champions.

Victorious Morgana is totally changing the way I'm thinking . Instead of feeling like "I'm good player" , I'll be more like "Do these scrubz really think they stand a chance against me?! Let's show them what pain really is... NO MERCY!!!". I don't know why , but I tend to encourage myself more than I usually do , and I hit binding after binding after binding... It feels like I'm tormenting their souls to go AFK xD

Pantheon dragon wings and soon a chainsaw.

This may or may not be one of the reasons I main Pantheon.

Though I honestly doubt skins have an impact on my performance oh wait I can't play Vanilla Pantheon without cringing, nevermind.

I second that, Black Frost Anivia takes it to a new level, lol.

I do the opposite. I like playing Lux, but Steel Legion has such huge gameplay advantage over the others (especially Star Guardian) that I play her using my least favorite skin.

Ditto Teemo. The Omega Squad skin AA sound effect starts way before the AA can be animation can be cancelled, so it's really hard not to cancel prematurely. Astronaut is the easiest for this.

Katarina also has some differences between her skill animation canceling times. When you swap between them, it's easy to accidentally skip your Q or W altogether.

Sometimes,

Omega Squad Teemo makes him easier to read.. If I had that skin I would probably do better as him..

but for now I enjoy his cottontail skin.. xD

On a game play level, as in they actually give bonuses in game, no, but in they way you are talking about, totally.

My performance on Dr. Mundo improved after I bought his Executioner skin.

The stupid syringe on Mundo's default skin always annoyed me (if was out-of-place, low quality, and quite distracting).

I always play ranked with the classic skins. I just seem to perform better using the classic skins than other skins. Not sure why. I think they're too pretty and distracting. Lee Sin is the only exclusion.

only skin that affects me is nunu bot it means im constantly spamming laugh every 30 seconds

Something like Soulstealer Vladimir feels a ton better then regular vladimir. Infernal Nasus feels like he has a smoother Q animation, Masked Shaco has a less noticable Q animation, Omega Teemo reads easier, Ravenborn Leblanc has a smaller return pad. Udyr's basically unplayable unless you buy his VU.

There's a few skins honestly, that feel better, or just help the game.

Seeing a spoiled brat using an expensive Spirit Guard Udyr & goes 0/20/8 makes me toxic & wished he would be permaban.

Sometimes.

Unless when a stupid squid is stuck on my head, somehow I play better, performance-wise. Then to proceed and watch my team feed.

Final Boss Veigar feels a LOT more smooth animation-wise, especially in his autos.

Certain skins do give you a SLIGHT advantage in game. Some have skillshots that are hard to see against some backgrounds, some have distracting visuals that make them hard to dodge, some make it easier to see debuffs or stacks on the enemy, and some actually have smoother AA animations.

I play worse when I use Zombie Brand skin. I love the shit out of that skin but the AA's are just so SLOW compared to his base skin and all others. So I farm poorly. If I played it more then I would eventually get used to it, but the fact that a skin of that caliber has clunky as hell AA's is very disappointing.

Krigjer1 votes

I'm the opposite. I can never play Headhunter Caitlyn because the auto attack sound throws me off. Same thing with Arcade Miss Fortune and Arctic Ops Varus.

Catastrop1 votes

Look good, play good. That's what I believe anyway as you're more likely to play well with champions who you find or have elements that are aesthetically pleasing. Also, some skins usually have better animations or have slight differences that can "buff" your game play. Lux's Star Guardian skin has a custom E hitbox that shows the full radius of it. Underworld TF's Q is smaller and thus can lead to enemies underestimating the width. Same for Forsaken Jayce's Q. Plus you have skins that use noticeably lighter colours like Arclight Varus' Ult, which can easily go unnoticed when used.

Whenever I play as Project: Leona I feel godly and invincible, and usually end up doing 2-3 times the damage as when I play Iron Solari Leona.

Eternum Nocturne puts me on a feast or famine mindset, I either stomp or flail about incompetently.

DJ Sona just... yeah, I don't even need to say anything about that skin.

Reaper Hecarim and Assassin Yi are objectively better than vanilla. Whenever I jungle, my go to is Reaper Hecarim.

Reaper is so nice in-game skin with ugly splash :D

Infernal Nasus has a sluggish Q animation, so I don't stack as well and never use him in ranked (though I don't like using Nasus in ranked in general).

Rugged Garen is my favorite Garen skin and the one I'm most comfortable with.

I hum and yell the Jurassic Park theme while playing Prehistoric Cho, which improves my play.

Dunkmaster Darius is mandatory if you play the champion. And tbh, I feel like his Q is a lot more clear in where the sweet spot is.

Corporate Mundo downsize what he pleases.

Aviator irelia just frankly looks better than the base skin, so it distracts me less.

Same with King of Clubs Mordekaiser. Doesn't look like shit, his base model does.

I find last-hitting with Highland Tryndamere easier than with his base skin.

And Astronaut Teemo puts me on tilt the moment I see it's in my game.

But Motorhead isn't even heavy metal. Lemmy said so, so it must be true.

WarlockLaw1 votes

One of his spells is 'Mace of Spades' please tell me why this doesn't automatically make that skin 'Ace of Spades' and instead Ezreal gets that.

Wrong, Ace of Spades shouldve been yorick. HE USES A FUCKING SHOVEL, but Rito forgot Yorick Mori.

At least morde being a king is kind of fitting

WarlockLaw1 votes

As long as Morde was in the that skin line but not the Ace of Spades the entire skin line is ruined (especially Morde's and whoever got the Ace of Spades)

Kitten of Evil1 votes

Sometimes. But they actually sometimes have better auto-attack or spell animations -- iBlitzcrank, Tyrant Swain, Blood Lord Vladimir, Blackfrost Anivia (better AA, worse E, so it evens out), Steel Legion Lux W and Q look more similar to each other than her other skins, Zombie Brand's erratic walk animation makes it harder to predict where he's going.

TerminatusOmega1 votes

lee sin-mui thai animations and tight textures (compared to hitbox) helps you be a bit more accurate... or i just perform better when i use to play him

Dragonslayer Vayne makes me feel like gosu smurf

Oh yeah and you have to have a skin with shaco to be effective at baiting your clones. The default skin clone is so obvious.
