Maybe a problem with shields is the ease that they're applied

Think about it. Who in the game has a shield that is a skillshot?

Well we got Lux and uhhhhhThresh lantern technically and...... Yup

Meanwhile for point and click shields we have Diana Camille Ivern Janna JarvanIV Karma Kassadin TahmKench Morgana Nocturne LeeSin Lulu Orianna Ornn Rakan Sivir Shen Rumble Taric Viktor Skarner Udyr Nautilus Riven Sion

Also have a few less-than-point-and-click shields

"Be near something" Sona item 3190

"Just because" Galio Malphite Yasuo item 3156 item 3102

And a few unique cases Ryze Ekko Poppy Mordekaiser Vi item 3814

Anyone seeing a problem here? Why don't we get to a point where we have more unique cases and skillshots than point and click? This overlaps into healing as well. Maybe shielding feels so bad because there is no way of playing around it other than hoping they waste it or have awful reaction time.

Shields are just too easy to use for how impactful they are. Can we work on that?

wouldnt that make supports like lulu/janna actually be somewhat hard to play?

thats the opposite of what riot wants.

they NEED to have champions that are braindead so terrible players can abuse them to get to ranks they dont deserve so when they get autofilled, EVERYONE gets fucked.

More like you should be fighting the enemy, not fighting your team trying to land a shield on them.

Since most damage is also point and click, it makes sense.

You make an excellent point. I think riot should make some shields more like the aoe zone thing they tried with locket on the pbe or something along those lines. It would definitely make the shielding supports a bit more interesting/ interactive.

i believe being as brain-dead is possible is now part of the enchanters class identity in Riot's eyes.

Let's discuss some of your "point and click" shielding. Of your list, the only champions who have point and click shielding are Ivern, Janna, Karma, Morgana, Lee Sin, Lulu, Oriana, Rakan, Shen, and Taric. Of those I just listed, Morgana's is extremely niche (it's only magic damage, it stops CC), and Orianna's is dependent on her ball's travel speed to be her shielding speed. Rakan actually flies to his target to shield them, putting himself directly in harm's way, and Shen's shield is an ultimate spell that is nowhere near any kind of cooldown that makes it a good shielding tool for laning.

Nearly every other person you listed has a personal shield that offers them, and only them, protections of some sort. Camille's is conditional based on who she attacked last (again, she needs to be in danger to trigger it), Kench also requires taking damage to accrue a shield, Nocturne and Sivir have very split second conditional shielding, and Viktor's shielding is dependent on him hitting his Q.

Nearly the entire list you posted have shields that aren't unhealthy for the game nor the characters they're attached to, so using this list as some marker for the bad uses of shielding is cherry picking and blowing the problem completely out of proportion. The worst offenders of shielding are Janna, Karma, and Lulu. They have highly spammable shields that scale really high and offer them extreme clutch shielding. These 3 ladies have the problematic shields, everyone elses' are healthier and on more substantial cooldowns or have different triggers or conditions. It's completely unfair to lump all of these champions together with Lulu, Karma, and Janna when their shields aren't remotely similar to how those 3 abuse theirs.
