Ban an item?

For a long while there's been talk of upping the 3 bans per side to 4 or even 5. main problem here has been that it can result in banning out a persons entire champion pool, particularly in competitive play. So what about a different approach, hitting not champions but a single item per team that you do not want to play against?

Playing poke => ban out warmogs. What about hard engage comps? ban out mikhaels or Banshee's. Just think Sated devourer is too strong? Out with it.

There are two benefits to this approach; first it's broader, meaning you cant target ban someone, his way, and it also relieves way more from your chosen comp than a champion ban approach. if j4 is banned you can always pick Vi for engage right?

The other benefit is that it shows a very clear direction in champ select, so sure you diminish the strength of certain comps, but you also show your hand, and allow enemies to predict what kind of champs you will play, and plan against that.

To overpowered because I'll just play assassins every game and ban zhonyas, have fun doing dmg as a mage when you have to build RoA or Rylia's early to survive

You'd have to play ad assassins to not be fucked just as hard, and the other team could ban blade of the ruined king / hydra / ghostblade and potentially screw you as well. Plus they can still buy banshees or ga for late game.

Also I think you'd have to be really careful with that kind of bans because it can backfire horribly, if the other team turns out to play assassins better than yours. Also there is counterplay in that everyone seeing a zhonyas ban will KNOW what's coming, which can result in some pretty horrible situations for the faker wannabe zed player :b

This isn't a good idea, If one thing goes wrong in the system at any time, No items for anyone. Not only would League of Legends itself be disabled but it would make people around the world angry at Riot

Well under that logic if something goes wrong in the current system there'd be no champions for anyone? i don't think that's a likely bug.

I said items, not champions, for example: Someone has terrible ping and its not leting them ban, They begin to click rapidly on all of the items, Leaving the server to much to sort out leading to it bugging and selecting them all, Then almost all of the items would be banned leaving Riot to blame.

Doesn't work that way..........

In a way it does, I have been In champ bans where some fool with pinger higher than mount everest kept saying "Hey why can't I ban anyone" And come to turn out a couple minutes later he has banned like 9 champions.

No you haven't. cause the system can only ban 3 champions. and besides, after you ban one it automatically goes to the other side for their ban. this is NEVER going to happen.

I like it.

I like it....but foresee enough potential problems that it is HIGHLY doubtful it would ever be implemented.

Ban zhonyas, play Zed. Hit diamond the following week.

If you ban zhonyas everyone knows you'll play zed. Say hello to Lissandra, Janna, Sejuani and Sivir. Or they could just ban Brutalizer/BotRK and laugh at you.

Not necessarily. It'd just be a staple item to ban to cripple all mages. Or ban last whisper and wreck as a tank. Or ban IE and cripple ADCs. Or ban hunters machete and cripple the jungle. See the issue?

Bans aren't meant to cripple a role/lane.

Also banning brutalizer wouldn't be that bad for zed lol. Even Bork is replaceable.

I just don't think players would ban items that could potentially cripple their own teams (like LW), also even if they did there are many ways of playing around that: Vayne/Kog'maw/Azir/Gangplank. There's a lot of possibilities, and let's say you ban LW and the opposing adc plays Kog, while your adc picks Graves/Ezrael or other ad casters, your team would be the one to be fk'ed. I think people would rather rely on it to make interesting micro strategies, say ban randuins and then play trynda/yasuo to remove the flat crit reduction, than make bans that are potentially hurtful to themselves.

Most likely they would simply ban zhonyas and mages mid would cease to exist. Or just ban hunter's machete and then pick high burst champs for secure objectives. It's just too broken unfortunately.

Ban sightstones!

Ban item 1039

Fiddlesticks is now the best jungler.

UkeNeverSeme1 votes

That would actually be cool xD

Maximum Morde1 votes

I'd ban Longsword. Suddenly AD champs worthless

UkeNeverSeme1 votes

Obviously you'd only be capable of banning fully upgraded items. otherwise the "ban cloth armour" strat would ehh... be disruptive to say the least. or banning longsword as you mention and then just firstrotating galio...

Actually xPeke1 votes

No, no and no. You would just ban an important item like Rabadons or Ludens and the enemy midlaner is screwed. or an ADC item like Infinity Edge

Angry Monster1 votes

I ban IE and pick morde bot, now what.

Easiest proof that the idea is a bad one.

Crossette1 votes

People would ban BoRK.

Fuck Vayne.
