Why are old Champions so terrible?

The original Champions are some of the most broken and easiest Champions to play. If Riot knew how to create new Champions without an absurd amount of problems, maybe they could get around to reworking these oppressive ass Champions. I'm just tired of playing versus Warwicks, Annies, Vaynes and Nunus. The make the experience un-fun.
