Hey, guys, Silver player here. With the utmost respect, I just gotta ask...
Really?
Half of this thread has turned into a shade-throwing contest right from the getgo, but that's not my main concern. My main concern is that people expect some perfect system for what has become the most widely played game on the planet.
Do yourselves a favor and make your expectations more reasonable.
Do you get your preferred role at least 60-70% of the time? Most likely, you do.
Can you make it through most champ selects without some sort of toxic experience? Even though the bad times stick out more than the good, that answer is probably yes.
Do you have players frequently requesting to play a different role because of being autofilled? While definitely not impossible, it probably doesn't happen a large percentage of the time.
Now, I would comment on queue times as well, but I do understand that queue time issues tend to fluctuate pretty severely based on rank, so I'll leave that point for another discussion.
Still, though I am only a Silver player, I've been playing since late season 1. I've been through the vast majority of this game's champ select iterations, and this one, by far, is the least toxic and most user friendly.
And for those times where we do get autofilled, remember: for all of your lauded skill as a solo player, this is a team game. Nothing will change that. Instead of getting needlessly frustrated and posting in the forums until your fingers fall off, just do your best in the role you have. If you can't carry, fine; find a way to help your team carry instead. Let the team know: "Hey, this isn't my main role. I'll do my best, but I can't make any promises." More often than not, my team is understanding when I say this.
I'm certain Riot is watching these forums. I'm certain they're noting people's concerns. And while they are not above reproach (I was also here for the solo-queue debacle), they definitely do their best to learn their lessons. Changes in iterations to a system as core to the game as matchmaking cannot be rushed. They require meticulous planning, drafting, redrafting, alpha testing, beta testing, etc.
To summarize, it's not perfect, but it could be MUCH worse. I still shiver at the old solo-queue system. Arguing practically every game for the role you wanted...
