how do you play master yi top?
it cant be just simply max W and aa your enemy. are there cases where you put points into your E or Q early and only keep 2 points in W.

Well the best option is "Don't"
Depends on what you intend to do. If you want to do the scaling setup, yes it's max W and just farm under turret because you lose most matchups that isn't Kayle.
However, Yi's level 1 and 2 are very very strong and shouldn't be underestimated, so there is another trick where you play for levels 1-3 only and snowball from there. Take Hail of Blades and start long sword + 3 pots and Ignite. You want to kill your opponent within the first 3 levels, and many laners don't expect it because they never faced a Yi in lane before, and they generally underestimate him (for a good reason, he falls off hard after level 3). However, don't expect to be doing much if your opponent knows the matchup, this cheese basically exploits the fact that nobody ever laned against a Yi.
If you must, try to use your Q in the early game to create a minion advantage and then force a trade when you have one. Later on, you'd probably be focused on split pushing side lanes.
