Meddler "we'll be removing the ability to start the game with crit"

Dammit, no more RNG first bloods with 160 damage crippling strikes (you wont even believe how many times I first blooded or heavily won an early game trade with one percent RNG crit)

Darius

On a serious note though, probably a change for the better.

remove crit from game = vast improvement.

Crits are a big part of what allows Marksmen to bust down Tanks in endgame.

So in other words... yeah, delete it please.

SlntReaper1 votes

You can always get percentage hp damage.

Ralanr1 votes

Please no. Keep that with burst.

Ralanr2 votes

Because I don't want another Vayne.

One is already a handful.

Why stop there when they could do so much more to remove this unhealthy RNG factor?

You might get 3 crits in a row as trynda at level 2 or you might get no crits and in turn get forced away form creeps.

Hardly a display of skill when 200 damage might or might not happen.

RIP my 1% crit runes

What do you mean he will be removing crit? no champions build crit to start the game?

DrCyanide4 votes

They'll likely be making some sort of change to prevent a crit chance < 5% from working in the first 5-10 minutes or so, if not removing crit chance runes all together.

Slythion6 votes

I think it should be explained that champions like Tryndamere will still retain their crit, and Yasuo if he feels like starting item 1051

Yeah but it'll be nice to have Irelia or others not have crit chance for the early game.

they can't really do that because most champions use crit? idk what you are talking about. They can't force yasuo to build crit then make crit unusable for 10 minutes. I'm a little confused as to what you are saying?

It's a fairly common practice to take 1% crit chance runes on anyone, be they mage, ADC, fighter, assassin, etc. The reason is that the 1% will actually show up more often than 1/100 auto attacks because of how Riot implemented crit. That 1% early crit chance can really mess up the early game, there's not much that can be done against it, and there's almost no cost to doing it because no other single rune will change the tide nearly as much.

That's what Meddler is talking about trying to remove. People trying to game the crit system for an early advantage.

Yasuo wouldn't be effected by the changes because he's actually building crit, not trying to cheese an advantage off of 1% crit chance. If they remove crit chance runes, Yasuo would likely replace them with crit damage or AD runes and be fine.

Personally I feel like they're going to make the 1% crit rune a 'increase your crit by x% amount rune'. That way you need at least a crit item to benefit from it.

Irelia Bot6 votes

It has been a common practice from time to time to put one crit mark in place of an AD mark for runes to give you a ever so slight chance of having a RNG advantage in a trade.

Yeah but it's not against any rules so.....?

Ralanr3 votes

It's not against the rules, but Riot finds it to be a rather unfair RNG mechanic and wishes to remove it.

I guess, but it seems like they are trying to force it. Yeah it is a bit annoying, but suppressing people who think outside the box for advantages seems to be too forced in this game.

Ralanr3 votes

I don't know if buying 1% crit from runes is really thinking outside the box. It's too low to be reliable.

You're basically leaving early grade trades to chance. It's not fun for either side because of how unreliable it can be and how ridiculous it turns a trade around when it happens.

There's no strategy. Just relying on luck rather than making good of the situation.

maybe, but they are still free to use it you know. Just seems to be forced. If a person is willing to waste a rune on chance, it should be his choice. I wouldn't do it, but idk seems like taking the option away is rather backward to me.

Ralanr3 votes

Eh, they're reworking runes in the midseason as a whole. So there may be a lot of runes that will go.

Bhagswag1 votes

That's so BS.

If I sacrifice some AD and Ar Pen, then I should get to keep my measly few percents of crits early.

DrCyanide4 votes

Yeah, because sacrificing 2 AD is so hard on you...

Bhagswag1 votes

Yeah, but because 2% crit is so cancer to lane against,

DeathBurst5 votes

Yes... yes it is.

Bhagswag1 votes

I really don't get it, why don't you also do the 2% thing then?

Zero Skill Tank2 votes

And if he did, so what? It doesn't mean it's not cancer.

DeathBurst1 votes

Well, I could, except I know it will be removed, so I might as well get used to that early. Plus, I play mostly Champs that don't often have the opportunity to use auto-attacks or don't rely on auto-attacks to deal damage, so for my personal case, it's even less likely to happen than for a typical ADC main; but because I don't play ADC doesn't mean it's not annoying when the ADC does it. And last but not least, I'd feel that I don't really deserve the win, if that really decides the outcome of a game, and I'm not that hungry for a win. I also play to have fun, not only to win, and it's definitely less fun to think I owe my victory to RNGsus rather than to my own skills.

TL;DR: I don't do it because I don't play (only) to win, but I still think it's the best thing to do if you desperately want to win above all else.

Does that mean Tryn gets his good old passive back?
