Mages weak or strong

So today I was playing some brand support and we were against a nasus. late game comes and our trynd did a poor job of stopping him from stacking but I was ready with my liandris and void staff but to my surprise I didn't even dent the guy. Now granted he was all built up and tanky but I felt like I absolutely added nothing because I couldn't even scratch the guy all I could do was keep stunning him.

Now I also play a lot of velkoz before and after his rework I think he is a very strong champ with his true damage but I get this feeling mages our weak right now. I find my self wanting some one to play an ad mid, jg or top to just be able to have some potential in the game. Does anyone else feel that mages feel weak or underpowered at this stage in the season?

I just cant help but feel that there are much better picks over anything ap lately.

It's not that mages are very weak, but it's really easy and efficient to itemize MR. Armor, on the other hand, not only requires a more significant HP pool, but is also pretty inefficient in terms of additional stats.

Also, mages are more CC sources than damage dealers aside from few exceptions, and so easy to itemize against with QSS to negate the CC they need to kill. So technically, if you do want more 1v1 power against some fed prick, it IS easier to play an AD champ. There's also the tank vs tank counter if you're willing to trust your teammates to kill him while you're peeling/zoning... but generally, you're right. Just be aware though - playing a full AD team is often disastrous against tanks after about 2.5 items, so you must try to win hard by then if you see lots of champs that could stack armor.
