Shen; Gameplay Update

Shen, the ninja tank that uses swords. Current identity: smack around minions for a long time to eventually kill them to get to a turret and very slowly use your toy hammer to chip away at it - it will go down eventually guys! Did I forget to say that he is a ninja that does a dash which intimidates his foes in wanting to attack him, after that, he does not really do much besides taking punches like a man! Shen does all this in hopes someone will go to him and pay him a visit; he has been lonely ever since Zed killed his father you know (sorry)...

Okay, seriously though Shen has a few issues, but besides talking about them for right now I am just going to list my concept ideas. Afterwards however we can have Shen talk and talk all about him.

Basic Attack Range: 125 units

Ki Strike (Passive): Static Cooldown: 8/7/6/5/4/3 seconds @levels 1/4/7/10/13/16; Range: 475 units Shen's next basic attack he will throw a blade at his target instead to deal 60(+3 per level)(+5%max health) magic damage which deals 75% of this damage against structures if it was used against structures. Additionally, Shen heals for 100% of the damage dealt by Ki Strike over 2 seconds if the target was not a structure.

Vorpal Slash (Q): Cooldown: 6/5.5/5/4.5/4 seconds; Cost: 50 Energy; Range: 350 units Shen slashes the area in front of him to deal 60/90/120/150/180(+50%AP) magic damage to all enemies struck and slowing them down by 23/26/29/32/35%(+1% per 200 bonus health) for 2 seconds.

Equilibrium Slash (W): 9/8.5/8/7.5/7 seconds; Cost: 60 Energy; Range: 400 units Shen shields himself for 40/50/60/70/80(+60%AP)(+8/9/10/11/12%max health) for 3 seconds. If the shield does not break before the shield duration runs out then Shen will let out a powerful slash around him to stun struck enemies for 1.25 seconds and deal 80/110/140/170/200(+50%AP)(+5%bonus health) magic damage when the shield ends.

Shadow Dash (E): Cooldown: 16/14/12/10/8 seconds; Cost: 100/95/90/85/80 Energy; Range: 600 units Shen dashes in the target direction to deal 60/90/120/150/180(+50%AP) magic damage to struck enemy champions and taunting them for 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4/1.5 seconds. Taunted enemies deal 70% less damage while taunted.

Shen restores 40 Energy for every enemy champion he taunts.

Stand United (R): Cooldown 180/150/120 seconds; Range: Global Shen may teleport to an ally champion or turret after channeling for 3 seconds, while channeling the target gains 200/300/400(+100%AP)(+5/10/15%max health) as a shield for the next 5 seconds. If Shen finishes his channel he will be granted 120/150/180% bonus movement speed that rapidly decays over 2.5 seconds when moving towards an enemy champion.

If Shen teleports to a turret Stand United's cooldown is reduced by 30 seconds if the channel finishes.

Hope you guys appreciate the ideas and have a nice day everyone! ~ Stacona

There might be a problem with his W. It providing a great shield is absolutely fine, but it also either being a massive shield or being a massive shield AND CC nuke is bad. If Shen is behind, he can't make use of the CC or damage, leaving him further behind. If he's ahead, you can't break through the shield and he gets great CC and damage. It has the problem that if he's ahead it becomes MUCH harder to stop him from keeping the lead, and if behind it's much harder for him to get back in the game.

A second problem is that you straight up buffed literally everything about him, which since he's balanced/slightly on the weak side would put him way overboard. Passive does equal damage until Shen breaks ~4100 health and is ranged and up much more often (sure it lost the cooldown reduction, but was any Shen realistically getting more than 2 feint autos off in a teamfight?). Q gained great waveclear and a slow, W gained a MUCH higher shield, more waveclear, and AoE hard CC, E gained even higher damage reduction, and R gained an even higher shield, massive movement speed, and use on turret for a lower cooldown. While Shen does probably need some buffs (48% winrate, 2.56% pickrate) buffing literally everything in his kit is usually not the answer.

I toned down the damage the shield does if it survives the full duration- i want to add more cc to shen so there is a reason to attack him because to make a tank a threat they need to be disruptive, a slow, stun and taunt will do that --- i am trying not to give him a bunch of damage; actually i am trying to have him deal less damage than he does now - and in exchange he gets utility aspects like lane recovery with his ultimate, engage with a decaying movement speed, more CC to perform better as a tank whether through disruption or peel, and AoE effects to help him clear waves

i want to move him away from being a tank that is meant to be a dueling split pusher and more about someone that pushes out minion waves and when someone from the enemy team needs to deal with the waves he ults to his team to run in and fight a 5v4- also changing ki strike from tower pushing to tower siegeing with the hybrid ki strike and vorpal blade by throwing blades into turrets and with his team can siege the enemy base on multiple fronts at once

tl:dr : make shen more of a proper tank and a unique team player play style role and less of a niche tanky dueling split pusher that jax and irelia can do over a hundred times better

my goal was not to simply buff shen, but to fix his issues - i actually want my concept shen to deal less damage than current shen- again, in exchange for better utility aspects on him

One, his passive heal should not proc on turrets, the rest can thou. Also, his W is broken as f*ck. a strong shield plus an AOE stun? Also, this Shen has no energy regain trigger, which all ninjas have, Riot has made it a thing. All ninjas can replenish energy somehow with their kit, either by landing certain abilities in the right order, or whatever it is.

His Q should deal magical damage. Other than (all) that, this looks good

The Shadow Dash refund was meant to remain, i forgot to add it in my tool tip- but every enemy champion taunted still grants Shen 40 Energy, this didn't change- the spell is mostly the same just less damage later ranks and a weaker taunt early ranks to make up for the added CC i gave him

i felt it made sense for this new Q to be physical damage, but i could make it magic damage and then it is easier to itemize against shen i guess with less mixed damage

SolusInCadere1 votes

It would make sense for the dash to maintain the energy return. Also, I said the Q should be magical because it scales with AP, for one, and also, it would be easier to itemize against him in terms of defenses, thou honestly, you should built mixed resistances anyway on everyone who builds any

there are plenty of AP physical damage spells --- Riot forgot the reasoning to why they made the AP system, but the AP system means Ability Power- means it makes spells more powerful--- they got lost somewhere down the road with AD spells and made everything confusing

i made it magical damage anyways

SolusInCadere1 votes

Yes, AP physical da,age spells exist, but it non standard and I don't really know why they did it. The reason for AD scaling on abilities is so that not every champion was either an ADC or a Mage, it defined Ad casters (obvs), but also helped in the development of bruisers

AD ratios in the best is because the spell was treated like a basic attack like Ashe's Volley's this was the exception case, Riot forgot the reasoning to their own system--- Ability Power is meant for an ability's power and Attack Damage was meant for a basic attack's damage, this obviously got lost along the way, but i liked this system a lot more and why league grew so fast and large is for the simplicity of their system while still holding extremely complex elements so players can get into the new genre called a MOBA (Massive Online Battle Arena) and with hold the complexities that it has while at the same time being simple for players to get into.

also league focused more on colour and art style and having a more pleasing and easier to look at atmosphere which also attracts players - dark colours like dota does not attract players and is not easy to look at, at all...
