Legit Asking...

... But how do you deal with Draven in lane? I'm not here to whine and say he's broken(though at the moment he might be slightly over tuned). I can't really because I've always struggled to lane against Draven. I main Tristana, she's one of my best champions, but even after 700-800k mastery points on her, I have yet to figure out the best way to deal with Draven as her. I've struggled against Draven since day one as her and have yet to figure out a viable way to deal with him. He out damages me massively, so going all in on him without a high CC support is sketch as fuck. But since he has so much damage and most of the highest cc supports are melee, all in'ing him is hard because a good Draven is going to play aggro and be poking constantly.

So I'm legitimately asking what there is I can do as a player to deal with Draven in lane? Because I see him and its pretty hard not to tilt.

Draven is a lane bully and will always get out ahead on straight fights. And because of his passive, even if you go 1 for 1 he will still get the better end of the deal because he'll come back with more items than you. Doesn't help that Tristana is a scaling hipercarry either with a mid-late game powerspike either. Your best bet is playing passive during lane and not give him kills to cash in his stacks. If possible getting a support with hard cc works well too, because his axe catching mechanics will always tell you where he'll go, making him an easier target.

From what I'm gathering, a lot of this is dependent on my support which bites; a lot of supports end up being people who just don't play bot lane enough to know much about Draven...

Doesn't have to be a full of cc support. Nami and Janna both have knockups/displacements that Draven hates. Slows also don't really count vs Draven. The main thing is getting him to drop the axes. It's not Draven you have to watch, it's the axe indicators, which will tell you his intentions.

^ I hadn't considered this though. Probably would do me a lot of good; its just habit to watch the character model. I suppose what I could start doing is watching his ax indicator and mirroring the movements, type deal. If he goes forward to catch an ax, I back up so he doesn't get a return AA on the catch kind of deal.

You need a support with lock down...somebody who can catch him when he goes for his axes. Blitz, Nami, Leona...etc

Poke him. You see where he'll be walking to so skillshots are easy to land on him. But you don't want to trade with him, his autos absolutely hit like a truck. Varus is his biggest lane counter. I could see Ezreal being one as well. He'll have to back and you can keep farming

This is only useful if I was playing ADCs that had skill shots or the range to easily poke him without getting poked back. As I said in my original post, I main Tristana and the only other ADC I play with any regularity is Cait and she's about to get massive dicked over by senseless nerfs. Its good in theory but doesn't help my particular situation.

I mean you asked how to deal with Draven in lane and I answered, lol. If you pick Tristana who only has basic attacks in her kit, against somebody who can outtrade any other ADC with basic attacks, you're counter picking yourself and there is no answer. When they pick Draven you need to pick someone other than Tristana or just accept you're going to lose laning phase but come back in the late game.

Give up CS but not kills. Just let him win lane. Farm up and play safe. Nothing else can be said

Again, your advice is only useful if the Draven picks first. :/ If I first pick Tristana and he follows up with Draven(which happens 90% of the time), there's nothing I can do about that. Furthermore, telling me to pick someone else just because their picking Draven doesn't really provide any constructive advice, especially since I literally just said the only AD's I'm functional at are Trist and Cait(who is about to get nerfed). I can't help but feel picking an AD I'm not used to against Draven is worse than picking one I am used to.

If you get counter picked there's not much you can do sadly. Your support and jungler will have to pick up the slack. Freezing the lane is a good idea because Draven doesn't have much mobility so he's vulnerable to ganks. Your support can pick someone like Nami or Morgana to lock him down and it's easy to land skillshots on him.

I'd really suggest learning counters for the common picks in the lane you play though. Like let's say you main Tristana. And let's say Draven counters Tristana. It'd make ya a much better player to learn how to play Varus. That way if they ever pick Draven, you have a backup.

Freezing as Tristana is impossible unless you gimp yourself and don't take her E at all. I'm actually good at setting up freezes but Tristana as a champion doesn't allow for them.

As for learning Varus, I have him and I play him but its a very different style; it sounds troll but I only ever really play him AP which can work botlane but only if we have AD somewhere else. :/ I suppose I could try and learn to play him AD but he, like Caitlyn will be, was pretty heavily nerfed after the Lethality stuff.

Yea Draven just stomps Tristana really hard in like every way. I'd honestly pick up Varus or Ezreal maybe. No need to gimp yourself at the start of a match, making laning phase harder than it already would have been. GL!

Ezreal isn't particularly strong at the moment and doesn't carry very well. Varus might be worth learning.

The counter is to get the jungler to gank. Draven will always push the lane, and he has little in the way of defense/escape. If your jungler doesn't gank, you aren't going to beat him.

Use the predictability of his motions, and CC as others have said. With Cait I drop a Q or trap on his catch spots. Play fairly passive to avoid him getting kills. Because of his catching mechanic, he'll always push. That means your jg can come help.

Caitlyn

Ask Caitlyn how she deals with him. Better yet, just play Caitlyn in response to Draven picks, then proceed to enjoy the Draven tilt.

I would play Cait except she's getting nerfed massively next patch.

The stack effect of Runaan's will be removed. Her range is what makes her the best counter for Draven and her skill shot. The same could be said for Varus. The nerf will not affect how she counters him.
