It's funny looking at Galios Stats

Galio now has a lower playrate than he did pre rework (only by .1% but still) and his overall winrate is 10% lower as well.

Is it time for my idea to go through?

My idea is to give Galio back his old on damage heal and move his MShield to his passive.

The reasons to do this (changelist below):

  1. Gets rid of some of his innate tankiness from maxing W that he currently has with his MRshield -Average games end somewhere between level 14 or 15 so it can balance out his spell order depending on priority while gating some of his innate Tankiness to support either Tank or AP Galio

  2. Forces him to choose between being tanky or a burst mage by having to build spirit visage for maximum tankiness. -Average games end at 3 items so having Galio be forced to build 2 items and a Sprit Visage is fair.

  3. Have his passive damage work off current shield amount, giving more windows to play as and around Galio.

  4. Be able to cut Galios Tankiness for grevious wounds.

  5. Make him feel more like his pre rework.

  6. Make him fit his ' I EAT magic thematic,

My change list below.

Passive:

Magic Shield Added

Shield Strength: 4 - 12% based on level (+ 2% per 85 MR) of his Maximum Health as a Magic Shield -Shield Refreshes every 12 second after taking no damage.

Damage changed to 15% of his current shield (minimum 20) (+ 100% AD) (+ 50% AP) (+ 50% bonus magic resistance) total magic damage to its target and all enemies around it.

Q:

Total Tornado Magic Damage: 7.5% (+ 3% per 100 AP) of target's maximum health

W:

Magic shield removed. Damage reduction removed. Replaced with On Damage Heal Initial Healing: 20 / 35 / 50 / 65 / 80 (+ 30% AP, + 15% MR) (each subsequent healing tick is 15% weaker than the last one) (75% Effectivness against Physical Damage)

I miss my old Galio. He was such an amazing champion :(

He just needs straight buffs. He's very weak in solo queue. He's rarely even played in pro. His ban rate is low. There are only reasons in favor of buffing him right now.

If his winrate were higher, more players would be willing to play him and his pick rate would go up.

I want his top laning as an AP Brawler to be stronger in particular.

They already cant just buff him. Each time they do he becomes strong-ish in solo Q and a 100% pick/ban in pro.

If his winrate is so low when only one tricks are playing him then he is awful. Compare it to old Galio who had higher pickrate and a 53-55% winrate compared to 43%

Even among the other lower pickrate champs he has an awful winrate. The only other champ with meh winrate/pickrate is Kalista.. and even she is doing slightly better in winrate (I also think she should be changed a bit too)

There's a middle ground. They just need to gradually buff him consistently over multiple patches. +3 armor here, +5 hp there, +5 base damage on passive, etc. After half a dozen patches, they can have him fine tuned to where he's 3-5% pick rate, 48-49% winrate in solo queue, and <25% pick/ban in pro. Those are totally achievable and reasonable stats.

+3 armor would be huge and +5 damage on his passive would be gigantic and would prob be a pick/ban on competative again and maybe be able to be flexed more in Support or Midlane.

Alright, +1 armor and +1 damage on his passive. If the ultra cautious buff has no noticeable effect, then +2 armor and +4 damage on his passive the following patch. If he's suddenly pick/ban, then he can lose 1 armor and 2 damage on his passive on the next patch.

The point is they can try buffing him in small increments, however small they need to be, until they reach somewhere in-between where Galio is now and where he is pick/ban. They could even buff him in increments as tiny as 0.1 armor/level and 0.05 hp/5 to start with as long as they have a vision of where they want him in the longterm. I think a reasonable goal is 3-5% pick rate, 48-49% winrate in solo queue, and <25% pick/ban in pro.

I get where you are coming form. But a 48% current Galio is a 100% pick/ban competative Galio.

Same as a 48% kalista would be 100 pick/ban in competative.

The kits just dont work.

Back to Galio, if getting damage is too hard then he is a base damage tank with free W stats.

If his damage is high he is a wave destroying one shot monster with a semi global.

One is free to build cheap tank/support items however he likes and the other is a champ that gets resources too easy and can synergize with Health/AP items too well.

unpopular opinion

win rate/playrate stats are not viable comparison stats for balance.

you should be comparing the abilities, rune/item synergies, and scaling stats instead of popularity and difficulty. only after the abilities are balanced can you look to promote the character through tweaks to his kit to make him more desirable.

He has less than 5% presence in a competative region (China) 0% presence in LCS and LEC.

He was almost a pro team only champion.

Urgot and Aatrox had mini reworks prior to Galio and he had been out for a longer period of time.

Also for clarity I wasnt the one who downvoted you :p

Galio had 16 changes (most small or yoyo buffs/nerfs to Q) since rework

Aatrox had 12 changes and 2 mini reworkes since release.

Urgot had 12 changes and 1 mini rework since release.

i said unpopular opinion to be literal. not to be edgy.

The fact that galio has had more changes than the other two shows that you cant force a champion to be accepted.

He also was out almost a year longer (24 more patches) for having only 4 other patches that he was changed. Also Galios patches balanced around one ability most of those extra patches he was changed before the other two came out.

Aatrox had huge patches most of the time.

because aatrox has a following. galio doesn't. aatroxians as we'll call them were upset that aatrox felt like riven 2.0. so they've done some things to rebalance him because he has a following. galio has never been popular.

He now has lower playrate than pre rework AND the lowest winrate in the game.

A++
