You wont beleive these Galio changes for new patch!

Galiö··34 votes·15,535 views

Less knock up time if centered. The ult barely does any damage anyway and the inner circle knock up was so rare I doubt itll make a different even in 1000 games.

The damage reduction removal makes his ult legit useless, even if it was DR for like... almost no time

His E changes are huge though.

Easier for less skilled galio players to hit up close that dont backwards E and better for higher skill/low skill to hit from a distance.

His Q changes dont change his clear much BUT his E damage on minions hurts... a lot.

I think this will be a net negative overall....

Can he have On Damage heal in place of his DR on his W now please?

#shameless plug

https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-plus/bzzOsuXW-why-there-should-be-a-partial-revert-to-galios-w

EDIT: I've noticed Galios winrate increase by 2 through 2.5 points.

I think this is more around the Q mana costs than anything else opening up Protebelt and/or morellonomicon.

I thought the changes would be same winrate or a slight loss and o was wrong.

His new E is kinda frustrating and his R is near useless however that Q is juicy (mostly the mana costs)

That is all.

Edit 2: it's at 3 3% holy moly

I just wish they would revert him already...this rework is a failure.

it wasn't a rework, he was retired

in his place we got a white washed new guy.[galio-happy]

Galiö19 votes

Riot already beat me down with the rework. I got to the point where all I want is the On Damage Heal.

He is almost nothing like the old one at all in gameplay... and design yeah.... 'white washed' lol

Darn Hollywood Galio :p

Nevrankroaton2 votes

So you want the part of old galio that would make him absolutely cancer sometime?

I remember the 'good all time' of galio using W and healing on any dot zone or dot that dared touch him, gaining health so insanely fast that Mundo got PTHD from it.

Galiö3 votes

It's funny how people are claim galio was trash, and then claim he was busted.

If Galio maxed W first (admittedly what I did) it cost a lot of mana to keep using it. It was also counterable with items. For the new Galio it would just increase possible uses for his W and would give him Q reason to Taunt and/or charge his W longer.

Even with a full charge W it's less time then Galios old shield was active and his new W doesnt give +90 armor and mr which indirectly gave him 45 AP which also increased his heal.

The new Galio would simply have an On Damage Heal.

Nevrankroaton2 votes

He is a mess of a champ with some mechanic that would make him bonkers on specific situation, if not he was a flash ult bot.

I don't care about your nostalgia glasses and personnal bias, it was his issue and he went from a pure nobody to a champ that gained a way bigger fanbase.

Old W was a dumb old spell, just move on, no amount of downvote you will put on me will change that a fake ass MR/armor steroid with some weird healing on-hit mechanic was not satisfying, stat sticky and borderline broken for some situation.

Galiö2 votes

I didnt downvote you bozo (I rarely downvote)

Also if you wanna look through the rest of these posts he wasnt a flash ult not it's just YOURE perception of him previously.

I'm also not asking for armor and mr back, just the heal.

It helped weaker mid laners in pro play during the ardent meta... so not an entire failure.

Was just a failure 99.99999999% of the time in other uses.

Eedat8 votes

To be fair his original design was a failure too. He legit had like 0.5% playrate

Galiö3 votes

He had 1.6% play rate... compared to the 2.2% he is at now.

And his winrate was 6-7% higher

Eedat6 votes

more like 1% with peaks at 1.5%

https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/champions/stats/galio/platinum

His orignal design was still pretty awful. Legit a flash R bot

Galiö3 votes

A lot of champions are reliant on R.

Also I use league of graphs as well, it's not showing sub 1%

For most of the time the least popular champions (under galio) were skarner, urgot, karthus, and someone else I forget.

I am the biggest Galio enthusiast in NA and kept up with his stats forever. Was kinda my thing.

Also His W was amazing.

His issues were his costs (which were high at the time)

His Q missile speed, and meh E damage. Forcing him to be reliant on being super tanky with W and being super useful with R.

His passive was meh other than free AP level 1 and the +45 AP when you had your W on.

Eedat5 votes

Also I use league of graphs as well, it's not showing sub 1%

I corrected myself with "more like 1% with peaks at 1.5%"

I understand you liked Galio's old kit, but it was still super clunky and made like no sense. Actually here is a thead I made almost 3 years ago about Galio's kit making no sense and most people agreed. Its kinda like pre-rework Sion. People still played him but his kit was so full of what the fuck is going on

https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/WJrkTLBy-sowhy-is-galio-melee-again

Galiö6 votes

I may have wrote in there. I'll check it later. Also Galios kit did make sense and if he wasnt Melee hed be straight broken in conjunction with his W. There would be no way to ever bully him.

His uptime was gated because of how strong he could be. In shirt windows he was eaisky the strongest champion in the Gane. If he had windows of more safety between his bug windows hed just be a nightmare of a champion.

Galios old pasisve synergize with his kit for cheesey reasons (free AP and with W

His Q was a a waveclear cool, did decent damage but slow missile speed making it hard to hit.

His w was the strongest Tank tool in the Game a d gave him Armor/MR (AP) and on damage heal (kind of like true damage reduction that is flat instead of % based with finishing returns) His E helped his clear situationally and was an ok utility spell to set up his team or to run away.

Everyone knows his R.

He was fine and would been extra strong with the buffed spirit visage that came after his rework, would a been extra strong with the new thornmail, would been extra strong with new runes (predator, mana options, ult CDR)

Just all feels bad.

Eedat1 votes

Its alright. My main is due for a rework sooner or later. Time to roll the dice to see if I get a good one or not

Galiö5 votes

That's a slightly different discussion. I used to tease people who were hyped about reworks and quit league after.

It was so cathartic and they disappear.

Only rework I seen where it was 50/50 was irelia and akali. So

My fav was this eve one trick that would fight with me for hours at a time that she wants and would love a rework and then she quit after the rework.

I'm so alone.

Teriyaki Bukkake6 votes

Galios rework made no sense though. He offered a ton of damage with two, not one, two knockups, a great deal of damage and damage reduction, and a shield against magic damage when he has a taunt to start his engage, meaning hes gonna take a lot of physical damage. The only two abilities that have any coherency at all were his e+w engage, but even then that was seriously lame. When you compare it to other reworks, you can understand why it was so bad. His kit didn't flow upon rework. He offered too much. His personality wasn't remotely the same. His role in the game changed. Nothing about him seemed like one character. To be honest, I still don't feel like it's one champion. Old galio might have been a mess of a champion with a wacky ability set, but it still felt good to play him, and it was unique and was a step away from most other champs. Galio now just blends in

SnugglePuggle949 votes

No it wasn't. It was much better than the crap he is now.

Eedat6 votes

Yeah it was really bad

Galiö10 votes

Bro it wasnt bad. At all. Stop misinforming.

Eedat16 votes

Not bad as in numbers wise. Bad as in not making much sense. Melee artillery/battle mage hybrid tank thing with all in ult that pretty much completely relied on flash

Galiö10 votes

He was an artillery mage, with benefits on being hit. Summed up in one sentence. Nothing mixed up even though his ult was hard to pull off.

Its similar for the new champ Neeko. She has two poke spells, a movement speed bonus and an air nuke she needs to get close for.

Instead of on damage benefits she has a clone.

Ralanr1 votes

Neeko is also ranged in auto attacks.

Galiö5 votes

Yes true. But neeko doeant get +90Armor and MR and want you to go in to hit her for heals and damage amp.

She isnt as tanky and is artillary for the most part but yet wants to go in for an ult.

Galio was fine just sitting back and wiatjnf first enemy to go in on him. If he was ranged hed just be broken with no counter.

Ralanr3 votes

Yes, a ranged durable character isn’t counter intuitive.

And by durable, I mean scaling with resistances, not just the health.

Galiö3 votes

I don't see what having a diverse option for an artillary character is so bad.

His burst isnt as high as other artiller mages and was good at sitting in the back for protection.

Also he had poor scaling in resistances, so it's not like you can go fill MR to defend against one or two of the enemy champs and expect to do damage.

You made a choice to be tanky or to do damage.

You're bug boom was also hated unlike most other artillery mages with low CD bursts.

Old galio was ranged and durable New Galio is better at range than the other was, but not as durable Urgot is slightly ranged and very durable

It's not THAT unheard of

Galiö5 votes

Again as I mentioned elsewhere, yes she is (99% of the time) but she doesnt have the safety Galio had but has the same 'issue'of an all in ult.

LordGeovanni1 votes

Neeko gets a legit shield to negate the all in risk of her ult and she has multiple speed boosts that she can use to engage or run in any number of ways.

BaconFlesk1 votes

Important to note is that she gains her shield after the damage not during the channel so she can easily be bursted down before the ulti damage as it is a 2 second channel.

LordGeovanni1 votes

she gets it 1 second - 0.5 seconds before the damage and it helps cover her retreat. along with massive damage and root (was it a stun i cant remember so ima go the ligher one root.) (i also think that she gets an Invisbile slow field the range of her entire ult from she starts to help her land it.) She Her shield also lasts as long as tanks who get shields remember when tanks had courage of the collossus a shield with a 30-45 second cooldown with the condition of CC landing but dps mains were crying about it but neeko is getting a better shield on a champion with more range saftey and does more damage. (Whistles Orianna KaisaZoe )

Eedat5 votes

Errrrr artillery mages generally dont want to flash into the middle of an enemy team, aren't melee, and dont get tons of tank stats

Galiö7 votes

And galio didnt need to. Yiu can siege and wait for the enemy to go onto you. Yiu dont have to be proactive all the time in the gane. Flash it was just an option..

Eedat3 votes

Thats the 1 in a hundred case. A bunch of carries running into your ult range is a scenario that almost never happens. I mean its a very well known fact that Galio at the time was insanely reliant on flash R to get a good ult off. Probably one of the most flash reliant champions in LoL history tbh

Galiö5 votes

Then they do what? Strategically? Nothing. They never engage?

It's not 1 in a hundred, its every time.

I spent over 2000 hours playing Galio I knew all the ins and outs of the champion.

This is what makes me sad.. league is a fighting game now and people treat it like a fighting game.

It's all about the GO IN mentality. No strategy anymore.

Galio was a slower paced strategic champ underplayed and undervalued.

Flash ult was situationally an option, but u didn't have to. Just made people 'feel good'or bad if u flashed into a brand stun, udyr stun, Draven E, some sort of .1 second silence, stun, knock up.

AlienPrimate8 votes

The fact that he was an artillery mage as well as tank is a big reason I liked him. Who else can fill that role now? No one can meaning they deleted a unique champion from the game with no alternative to fill his role of being a melee champion with ranged artillery and the ability to self heal.

aezens1 votes

Maybe some poeple don´t remember but a lot of the old designs where quite problematic which is the reason they got reworked in the first place. Galio for example had a really stupid healing mechanics from magic damage. Some abilities especially the ones you dont level early on did less damage than the heal which is absolute bs.

Galiö5 votes

From all damage, not just magic.

And it was a unique tank trait instead of the generic stuff tanks (like galio) have kn their kits.

Hell Galio isnt even a tank anymore... he is pretty much the same build/rune set up as lissandra... but she does Galios job better than he does.

aezens3 votes

Purposefully tanking my waveclear as malzahar and healing from it might be unique but not very healthy for the game in my opinion. Interactions like that are the reason some champions can´t be viable.

Galiö3 votes

And what would u give up on malzahar for that? Your minions? Your spammable silence? Or your waveclear tool/liandries abuse spell? Then you use your ult to NOT get hit?

Galio WANTED to get hit. Malzahar doesnt.

Shen wants to get attacked when taunting cause everything misses him.

Rammus wants to get hit to reflect damage

Galio wants to get hit to slowly die, now or set up snapcast for an E combo and reset passive.

Woo so amazing.

Before taunt chambers wanted to pull aggro for some benefit, galio just has it as a call back to his old kit and it does t do as much as the old one did.

Not CC proof, no damage ramp on hit, no combo with W for heal.

It just taunts, some DR (like before) and a teeny bit of damage (which was added later in the rework) and doesnt even work on minions anymore.

Galios on damage heal had diminishing returns and you can cut the healing.

His DR is just generic.

aezens1 votes

I think Rammus damage reflection is a balance issue as well. With the old thornmail it was at least as stupid as galios heal for adc´s.

Taunt in general isn´t really problematic. It´s more or less a combination of root and silence nothing gamebreaking.

The old silence was around 10 sec if I remember correctly which is far from spammable. Sure the reworked malzahar might have less problems but do you really want to keep track of an ability every time you create a new champion just because it´s broken in certain circumstances?

For example another dot ability I wasn´t even able to use is morgana´s tormented soil. That´s right even today you wouldn´t be allowed to cast an ability just because someone picked a specific champion.

Galiö2 votes

For malzahar, its a short CD with 1/6th the CD is an effective silence with little mana cost. I dont mean spammable as like a cassiopeia E or Karthus Q. But still spammable.

Taunt isnt problematic, it's one of the worse off hard CC.

Charm, fear, stun, in some ways snare are all better forms of CC.

But taunt champs came with an additional reason to have a taunt.

Rammus wants to be hit, so damage can be reflected

Galio wanted to be hit so he can stack his Ult damage and heal off his W.

There was a reason to taunt.

Also I dont find rammus reflect problematic at all so its just a difference of opinion of what's 'problematic'.

Thematically Galio healing off magic (and by extension in game being hit) makes more sense... since he 'eats magic' and literally comes alive because of it.

I mean makes more sense than being pricked by Fiora for life, or hitting the edge of Darius blade, or Mundo hitting you with a cleaver... all weird ass healing sources.

Also even with Galio did heal off dot, the dot also drained his heal. After a couple seconds in the pool he would be just about as hard to kill as he was before he had his W up (not including the armor and mr steroid).

Also new Galio wouldnt be able to heal off other being hit (which i thought was the weirdest part of his old kit)

I thought it was an interesting mechanic and counterable in game rather than generic DR (I'm extra tanky now, just cause, and nothing you can do about it)

Or overused Shields on low CD that scale off a large % of Max Health.

He had two of the most awkward to land skill-shots in the entire game, his kit was ridiculously mana heavy and even when those skillshots DID land they felt nearly useless. He had next to no solo kill pressure unless the enemy dove on top of him under turret. He was only useful as an anti-mage. His ult was solid but if you weren't flashing forward to land it on the backline it wasn't worth anything. Especially since he kinda HAD to build MR to scale, the current AD heavy meta would leave him in the dumpster. In what shape or form was that kit better? I'm not disputing the fact that riot are ruining his kit every time they change him, because they are. But the rose-tinted glasses with which people remember old galio need to come off.

His only skillshot was Q and it was very easy to land so I don't know where you got that from. Is E was even easier, and they were very useful especially because they did a crap ton of damage, so that argument is done.

Yes, his main problem was his mana costs. They just needed to tune that down, not fucking rework him.

I don't know where you got that from but I had a ton of solo kill pressure every time I played him so something makes me think you barely played him at all.

He was the anti-mage, and it was a special role to fill, and he did it well. But he also was a GREAT teamfighter as well which is also why I loved him so much. Fly in with E, shield with W, land a Q if I have time and set in with a nice R and boom the enemy is decimated.

Sorry but nope. I rarely flashed in unless I was late to a fight but even then I rarely needed too. He was not a flash bot and if you only played him that way, you weren't playing him to his full potential. Just like Annie, I don't flash everytime I have R but if it calls for it like for instance my jungler decided to go in on my enemy laner outside my range, I will but I play around it so I don't have too because I can zone people off me with my stun on another spell if needed.

AD meta might be high right now but I still play plenty of games that have a lot of AP in it so he's not exactly left in the dumpster here.

His old kit was better because one- he had a special identity and role in the game, 2- he did a crap ton of damage, 3- his unique spells were pleasing to play and no other champ had them, 4- he was loved by his mains and didn't deserve this rework being done to him.

With the ult change, Im not conviced it is worth ulting if you are already in the fight. The dmg reduction was what I cared more about than the damage. And to take yourself out of the fight for 3 sec to MAYBE do damage (since it is pretty easy to move out of the ult) is kind of lame. Even more lame when you look at how big of a cool down is. Lastly it is a big hit to building MR since he lost 1/3 of the scaling that it was used for. Feels less rewarding now to stack it, which is kind of the theme of the champ.

Flemman4 votes

at this point, give us a self ult option already (half cast time and half damage)

having a part of you kit damage relying only on your teammate ability to play (or inability to play in some case) never feel good
