Support Tank Ezreal. Why is this working?

Yeah, you're reading that titled right. Support Tank Ezreal.

I remember the days when Blue Ezreal ADC was the end all be all for Ezreal. Then people finally caught on that Blue Ezreal ended up not dealing out nearly as much damage compared to Trinity Ezreal or any other ADC, so it got dropped. It was amazing because of the kiting potential he brought for not only himself, but also his team by landing AOE slows with his Q, allowing his teammates to catch or run away from practically anyone.

So I thought to myself...what if instead of slotting Blue Ezreal in the ADC slot, how about Support? Bam. I tried it out and some how for the last 6 times I've played it so far (Not a large sample size at all, but it still shows something considering players are always playing to win) and it's brought home a win. It doesn't hard carry of course, but it still played a vital part in the teams I was on in those games.

Think about it. All you have to do is start Spell Thief, pots and ward trinket. Then once in lane, your entire purpose is to abuse your low mana Q on the enemy bot lane. Netting you gold after gold every time due to Spell Thief procs as well as Support Tree procs due to Q counting as an auto attack. As little as the damage seems, it quickly adds up in the early lane phases. But not only that, but your W is an Attack Speed steroid that you can use on your ADC which causes their DPS output to increase during the duration. Causing them to throw out more autos than they normally should. And since its an AOE AS buff, you can spread that thing around to multiple allies at objectives such as Dragon and Baron, causing them to be more swiftly taken. You also have your own escape to get out of trouble so your ADC/Team doesn't have to worry about trying to bail you out of anything then your ult is a little mini nuke for some addition burst in all ins or simply to use as a long range scouting tool due to the low CD it has when Q's interaction with it is taken into account.

But not only is there Ice Gauntlet, but there's also Deadman's Plate you can abuse with your Q. Suddenly you're able to run around fast as shit, being tanky to boot and having a serious on demand slow that does a decent chunk of damage every couple of seconds. From there you just build what ever tank items help you survive against the opposing team and go in there with your slows. More often than not, the enemy team will make dives at you because you're Ezreal. You'll be surprised how often people aren't going to look at your items and see that you're tank. So instead of killing you in 2 seconds, it takes them 12 seconds to try and kill you. And in that time, your team is laying the hurt down on them as well.

Am I the only one trying this tank support Ezreal out? I really recommend you all to give it a spin. Its surprising fun and effective despite what you would assume when hearing 'Support Tank Ezreal'.

The big problem is Ezreal has no inherent tankiness or CC. Nothing about his kit fulfills a support role and other champions like Lulu have poke as well.

It seems like a gimmick thing that relies on the opponent not having experience against such an odd-one-out support. that's fine though, I guess.

It plays just the same as Blue Ezreal, but it eliminates the problem of " Oh our ADC is blue Ezreal, well gg guys, we have no damage late game" by shifting him to the support role. Now you get all his slows and AS buffs while also having an actual damage carry to help carry the game mid to late.

Leaves your team wtih one less tank and 2-3 less hard CCs.

I get the hard cc part, but I got two things iffy about the first part. One, building tank on the support wouldn't be leaving the team one less tank (unless you're counting the hard cc part, and in that case I agree), but who says the support needs to be a tank? o.O

I left it out because usually a support can peel divers, and Ez most certainly cannot peel divers.

I'm an ADC/supp main who used to main a lot of Ezreal. I'll give it a shot, but I'm tempering my expectations, lol. I have to wonder, if this build is predicated off slows, why not just play Janna with knockups, knockbacks, shields, AND slows? I'll give it the benefit of the doubt though. Looking at your build, it looks like you're going: Frostfang > Sightstone > Iceborn > Tabi/Merc Boots > Dead Man's Plate > ???

Perhaps the only reason I'm willing to consider this is because of Dead Man's Plate. I don't have experience with this item, so maybe it can do something special on Ezreal.

wtf?

Anyway wont it be better to have item 2049item 3092 item 3025 item 3071 item 3050item 3111 to play support(I know to much cdr).

Because I dont think deadmans plate works on him, because its melee only the slow and double damage.
