He's gonna have unlimited meep bullets. Dunno if that's healthy for the gameplay tbh considering he's also gonna have a stronger slow (max 80%) and gets larger cone size earlier.

But it sure sounds cool to have 7-9 meeps running after you in the late game.

Velzard of Koz3 votes

7 - 9 meeps at 42 minutes If he collected every single chime.

Meep Man8 votes

To be fair, you need to collect 100 chimes to get 9 meeps

Spoofghoul1 votes

to be fair

that's actually very doable in an average game, provided it went over the 20 min surrender

DrCyanide3 votes

That's a 42 minute game without missing a single chime.

Spoofghoul1 votes

those things last for 10 minutes

you should be able to get them

junglerboy162 votes

the problem is most games end by 35 minutes in the current meta.

Buffing damage is the completely wrong direction

RookPusher12 votes

Why?

I'm slightly above average on Bard and he lacks the ability to carry games. Given that he only has 1 damage ability, and is largely reliant on a roam-correctly strategy, it seems to me damage was exactly the right direction to go in.

Quort30 votes

No! As Bard your job is not to do damage! You are a cosmic entity that steps in to stop things from destroying stuff! Your job is to whimsically fly around and sometimes use Tempered Fate to bother people.

RookPusher7 votes

Ha, yeah, I have to say, I think I can land the ults well, but being human and all, there's always one that goes poorly. The amount of rage you can generate with that is...cosmic.

Though I have to say this, I once used it on an invading group of 5 coming mid who was using an Olaf ult to engage. In a humerous turn of events, Olaf's ult ignores Bard's ult, which is noramlly a great thing, but it basically allowed our team to focus on the one guy "up" and he. got. nuked.

It was a "oh yeaa- aw shit - wait waht? - OH THAT'S AWESOME - /all LOL" moment.

Euthenaasia2 votes

Why? Because he's a support? That's like asking for your Thresh or Janna to be able to carry the match.

Milodic Mellodi6 votes

Not sure if you're being sarcastic here, because all three of them ARE capable of carrying.

Euthenaasia5 votes

Not sure if you're daft - They're all capable of carrying yes but it has nothing to do with their damage dealt.

Shrek Luigi3 votes

It's DEFINITELY the reason why Thresh can. His damage output for the first half of a match (up until the point where his damage starts scaling off and he becomes a Hooky Meatshield) is miles above most other supports as per the typical runes/masteries that people are currently using. His bonus damage from Flay is generous, he's not gated by his mana pool to deal damage as opposed to most supports which means less downtime, and the souls he picks up gives him a surprising amount of damage on his AP scaling stuff as he approaches midgame.

Buffing damage is the completely wrong direction

Heya Pink Leg Warmers,

I'm one of the support playtesters at Riot and I was responsible testing these changes out. Just to clarify: the damage part was mostly to make it consistent per 5 chime level up. Believe it or not, the damage numbers per chime rank with 15 dmg per rank are actually quite similar to what is live. The only damage addition would be easier accessibility to the meeps through faster recharge and higher max meeps. I'd say the stronger buff here is the addition of the utility that he's able to access earlier in the game with the addition of being able to scale a bit harder (and infinitely) later on with utility (strong slow, extra meeps, easier access to AOE meeps, etc.)

Plus, it feels great to be the "King of Meeps" versus that weird guy that hangs out with a meep or two.

Keep Chimin' on friends :)

Bard being one of my fav champs I really hope the theory of "This is just april fools patch , this buffs aren't actually for real" - This is a bard buff that actually makes sense.

SSShutTheDuckUp1 votes

Does that mean, that after 100 chimes you scale with 10 on top of the passive 15? Or 10 simple replace the 15?

The Last Ballad1 votes

The first makes much more sense, as before he got 20 damage per rank after his utility chime buffs ran out.

AWildAPKalista6 votes

I don't mind Bard buffs. I enjoy Bard, but I'm confused why he was chosen for buffs. Of the three Generalist supports, Sona is the one with the lowest damage numbers and CC. Hell, she's one of the very few characters in this game played as support, that completely lacks pre-6 hard CC. Yet Bard, who already outclasses her in literally EVERY comparison, except basic attack range, is the one chosen for a buff.

To be fair though, Sona needs to be reverted to pre-4.13 to actually be a playable character once again. So admittedly, this is a moot point. Any news on how much longer til that revert?

Meep Man11 votes

We don't need to have one gain buffs over the other. Both could get buffs if warranted.

AWildAPKalista5 votes

That is a very fair and valid point. Just because one needs them more than the other doesn't mean they can't both deserve them.

[snip]

I never played him support for once because I am full SoloQ and, well, the guys are retarted that I have to play with, at least the "Hurr Durr, I do carry" Graves or Tristana jumping back all day long. Mostly, it's a premade anyways. But I always wanted more meeps. The longest game took like 1h05m and if I consider the lore about my presence "attracting lesser spirits" it felt odd to only have three. Just like buying a fancy electric fly killer that suggests to be super awesome - and in the end, any flyswatter would be better..

Also, Bard is the Big Daddy of the game (last week someone just called me fatty and fatso, like "fatso goes top") and just needs more meeps for the sake of being "The Caretaker [TM]". Walking across the river must feel like guiding a kindergarden class over a street crossing. Just to send them into suicidal attacks afterwards. Oh well...

Greetings, Bard (Blyat) Bard, your unfriendly SoloQ baroque-styled horn player

Only very late game after a ton of meep collection, but it gets very easy to auto,q, auto someone to kill em with this build. And its the funniest thing to do so its worth it not being very good just to see this.

9 FUCKING MEEPS its over i love this update

Arakadia2 votes

That does mean that each meep in itself is weaker than current meeps, i believe. Maybe not though.

Meep Man1 votes

No, they actually stronger. More meeps and all of them are stronger than currently. It's pretty good, but relies on you collecting a ton of chimes to make use of and relies on late game scaling, which is harder to do than you think currently where games are very short. Basically, Bard MIGHT JUST BE the new Late Game Support. Kind of like how Vayne is THE Late Game ADC and Veigar is THE Late Game Mage.

TheEdgeOfDestiny1 votes

Not that. You count max number of meeps and not meeps-per-second. What effectively will happen: Bard going to have less damage outright but more on-hit effects and possibly more sustained damage.

Meep Man1 votes

Wat? Unless I am mistaken, Meep recharge time has not changed.

his win rate is 46% lol. pretty bad for a champ who isn't mechanically intensive

Auz the Ripper7 votes

Bard may not be the most mechanically intensive but he is definitely one of the most strategically intensive champions.

EROTIC RAID BOSS4 votes

sure but 46% is still pretty low. and its not like plat players have no idea how to roam at all

Sohleks1 votes

It's a big big fat buff.

Solo lane bard anyone?

50 meeps in he has 5 autos that do 60% aoe slow for over 150 magic dmg each lol

At nearly any point his passive is twice as strong

Bârd6 votes

AP Bard is much more viable.

You need 10 fewer chimes for AOE attacks, and 30 fewer for the LARGE aoe, so he no longer has to wait until lategame to be good at clearing waves.
