Repost of my attempt to tackle support itemization from a few weeks ago [TLTR disclaimer]

#Too long to read?

The main idea is that support items such as item 3092 item 3109 item 3504 will no longer be able to bought directly from the shop but rather upgraded from sightstone in a simlar fashion to how our jungle smite items build tree is. Only you can upgrade the sightstone to the item by acquiring HONOR first and when you upgrade to the item you keep the sightstone passive + the items stats and unique passives getting two items in one! The new sightstone is cheaper, has better uses, and encourages supports to actually support. In addition the old support starting items will be removed but long term the fusion upgraded sightstones will pay off more from actual supporting. The new starting item for supports will be item 1028 so you can rush directly into your sightstone. The new sightstone enchantment paths will be purchasable in the shop. The final transformation however is only reached when you acquire 12 stacks of honor. The final transformation also requires additional fee of 300 gold and can only be upgraded in the shop. Each additional stack of honor past 12 reduces the gold fee of 50 gold further so obtaining 6 more stacks will make it entirely free.

This is built upon the ideas from other threads that have suggested changes to adding build paths to sightstone.

item 2049 NEW COST 700 gold

Built from item 1028

New passive ** Honor** (Also keeps old sightstone passive as well.)

  • Per two wards placed that die out after full duration without being killed grant one stack of honor.
  • Per two assists grants a stack of honor.
  • Tanking over 50% dmg that would otherwise kill a teammate grants a stack of honor.
  • Every two wards you kill grants a stack of honor.
  • Pink wards killed grants one stack of honor.

**Honor active ** Your honor is well earned now bestow your honor onto a teammate for increased defensive stats, bonus HP, for 4 seconds.

  • _During honor active you gain 10% bonus experience from all outlets. _
  • Max of 3 charges containing honor.
  • Honoring grants you a flat heal of HP based on lvl of 100 - 300.
  • During Honor active you gain 5 gold per 1 second (20 bonus gold throughout activation.)

And that wraps it up the theory is that stripping away the other support items and implementing these 3 enchantment routes will solve the current support itemization problems due to removing bonus gold given from items like item 3303. This encourages the mages bot lane to be a bit less gold dependent and punished more for building AP early on but rewards later on for being a overall good support thus you have a much more balanced game. This itemization change also greatly encourages supports to make their first back as quickly as possible the new starting item for supports would simply be item 1028 for the cost of sightstone now being 700 gold the support only needs 300 or less gold to complete the item. As Health in the game is a reliable stat on pretty much any champion its not that drastic of an ordeal to take before your first and important back. Its not perfect but its a start !

Thoughts? Will this make the support role more meaningful / useful ? Do you like it ? Do you hate it ? Leave a angry comment Express your undying love for me

I'll be honest... I hate it. I see what you're going for, but man that just feels/sounds REALLY sucky.

Partly these items feel really weak and inefficient. Part of what makes support items so good for the role is their low cost and good but narrow stats.

And yet.... I feel like you're suffering from a critical misunderstanding of what supports do? "Actually Supporting"? What is that even supposed to mean?

The proposed honor system just looks like a feels-bad gating system, which undermines a support's kit by making their first items take forever to be worth a damn. Making them reliant on timers to get off the ground, that's just not fair. Besides that, the "facetanking damage" mechanic is near-impossible to track properly, and isn't even a "good" way to support. Sona and Nami can kiss any relevance goodbye. These might (and that's a really tentative might) be usable during leveling or in low bronze, but after that forget about it.

(I might be drawing a connection that isn't there, but was this related to my proposal from the sightstone post that I posted last night?)
