Ezreal, hyper-carry

Lugg··31 votes·4,916 views

PepiiNeRO of Giants Gaming played mid lane Runeglave Ezreal against Fnatic today. All I can say is WOW!

SPOILER ALERT!

He almost single-handedly beat Fnatic. The announcers said that was the most damage put out by a champion they may have ever seen. It was absolutely insane the amount of dps burst he was putting out. If you get hit by his ult you either die or have to run and back.

My crystal ball sees nerfs incoming.

Meanwhile fed Xerath presses R and kills 1 ezreal 1 vayne and 1 teemo from the other side of the map. Fed midlaners can do a lot of things.

I think runeglaive ezreal needs a bit more time before being considered op:

  • He has atrocious waveclear (which is why some people prefer the aoe smite instead of chilling/challenging smite, they care more about his waveclear than his kill potential).

  • He has an extremely weak early laning phase. (all of his abilities can be totally nullified by safe positionning besides W, and if you max W first you lose powerspike with runeglaive by not maxing Q first)

  • He has absolutely zero crowd-control. (thats pretty damm rare, even for an assassin)

Lugg5 votes

Xerath almost always has to hit 2 out of 3 on his ult to kill someone. Plus it's pretty easy to dodge.

Ez''s waveclear is fine since he can do it from a safe range. With smite it's even easier. His laning phase is very safe thanks to his E. It's pretty hard to gank a good Ez. Ez doesn't need CC, he is all about damage. (BTW, he isn't an assassin)

RectumVapor1 votes

AD Ez's waveclear is fine. AP EZ has a very hard time clearing waves because his W doesn't hit minions. Plus the AP ratio on his Q is less than half the AD ratio.

Zair Umbras2 votes

AP Ratio is 40%, AD ratio is 110% of his TOTAL AD. Nearly a third there. lol. With Runeglaive, his Q becomes a 70% ratio though.

magic pole1 votes

not to mention he will also rush item 3285

Zair Umbras1 votes

That bit is being removed in the next patch with the buff to Runeglaive. Luden's will only be applying off of actual spell damage, not off of on-hit damage. Because it turns the entire attack into magic, it was considering the entire spell to be magic, thus proc'ing Luden's.

BakedLotion8 votes

You just noticed how much damage ap ez does? Lol. People really don't know anything until they stare at 'pros'

SaltyKracka6 votes

Can't believe Fnatic didn't build locket.

Sire Hippington2 votes

True, giants had like 70% magic damage in their comp, bit hey, 20mr for all doesn't seem like a good idea vs that...

Sire Hippington5 votes

And he still lost the game while fanatic had a rather bad setup vs him. No real engage or lockdown vs ez, no frontline to bodyblock his Q poke, 4 squishys...it's not hard to look like massive damage in that situation, nida spears would nearly oneshot 4 from the 5 fnatic members that game.

Not saying AP-ez with runglaive is bad, but it isn't op either.

Lugg2 votes

The Q poke was his weakest ability. His W and E were taking 1/3 to 1/2 the health of everyone it hit. His ult was almost 100-0 to some of them. Every one of his abilities looked like a max range Nid spear.

And locking down an EZ is much easier said than done. He is one of the safest carries in the game.

Sire Hippington4 votes

E also gets blocked by the frontline, and W damage: 250+0.8, nida spear damage: 450+1.2 it may have looked like nida spears, but thats what happens if no enemie builts mr besides the jungler, he prettymuch dealt truedamage to almost anyone.

An locking down Ez is hard, thats why you need some picks that are good in doing so, like Vi Jungle, mao top or nauti bot, all having point n click hard cc that follow through his E, or atleast a tank can zone him away for some time, or a sivir ult to run him down. Fnatic prettymuch had nothing of that, just that Kalista with janna+lulu+double lifesteal prettymuch becomes a hard to kill bruiser that can easily sustain vs poke, while Azir somehow managed to buy enough time vs EZ for Kallista to burn through the tanks and turn onto EZ in the last fight.

His ult, while beeing strong, looses alot damage per target it passes. If you have a tripple frontline, you backline won't get as much damage, especially if you stay in a minion wave or have pets(elise with max spiders Halfs Ez ult damage...) you can also reduce the damage of the ult quite a bit with locket.

If people learn how to play against ap-ez, which involves useing your minions as shields, he becomes way harder to use. Fnatic had some troubls early-mid, but they managed to adapt just in time to turn it around.

You can also hard counter him with Yasuo/Braum, as they both can nullify his ult and also block the rest of his kit. also, as fnatic has shown, mobillity also helps alot as he is 80% skillshots

He's already done all these things before RG.

The only thing RG changed is his q

Zair Umbras5 votes

Ez has always been powerful. His R has a .9 AP ratio on it, his W has a .8, his E has a .75. In a single E+W+Q combo with Runeglaive, the ratios alone do 2.25x AP and it's all quickly dealt. He's got burst, but he's always had that. With a Lich, it's 2.55x AP, but the base Q damage isn't all that great and it's 40% isn't very strong since it's physical with a Lich rather than a Runeglaive making it magical.

What makes this item so strong on him in completely honesty besides the fact that it turns his Q into magic is the fact it's AOE with an AP ratio, helping his wave clear AND IT'S A LICHBANE WITH CDR. Seriously, CDR. It's the one stat Ez LOVES above all, but he needs a Lich+big AP item to do burst, but to keep it going, he needs the CDR. Ez LOVES CDR. AD and AP both LOVE CDR. They shoved CDR onto a damn Lichbane for him and made it AOE, so YES he's going to be VERY happy. lol.

Earl Eulrich4 votes

ap ez always had been like that, really not a huge difference between lichbane and runeglaive...

atomicwit3 votes

He wasn't punished early and they had a lot of CC (remember that Ezreal has none) and frontline to peel/protect.

He had a good performance but in the end, once their tanks got solid MR and body-blocked Qs & ults., he was a non-factor. His burst is great and so is his poke but he lacks the DPS to really shred tanks. At the end, his Q was almost not noticeable when hitting Rek'Sai.

That's why I don't actually think he's a hypercarry in the same sense as Vayne. His strongest point is actually ~4-5 items while MR is still not a serious issue. I've had this problem many times in my games too. However, if a team fails to buy Locket & itemize MR, it gets pretty ridiculous.

Lugg4 votes

He was still chunking Rek'Sai pretty good. He was still doing insane damage at the end of the game. The only reason they lost was Azir pushed him out of the fight long enough so that they could kill everyone else.

FirstSergeantBim2 votes

Eh, I think the reason they lost is because Fnatic is a better team. You could tell just by watching the game. Giants certainly have talent and they have new ideas, but when it comes down to it Fnatic is just a better coordinated team with a stronger constitution. Fnatic wouldn't cave and they always knew how to punish Giants for making a play, even if it didn't look like it was in Fnatic's favor. The only reason Fnatic had so much trouble is because they didn't properly prepare themselves for a poke comp during the pick/ban phase, but I don't know how much you can blame them for that. The whole "remake" thing seemed pretty screwy to me.

But yes, you are right. That Ezreal was doing loads of damage.

Saianna3 votes

That Ez was nowhere near stronger than any oridnary ARAM Ez. Actually i was kind of surprised with all those moans "MUH DAMAAGEE".

And second part: Kalista. is. f#####g. broken. as. f##k

I have mained ezreal for most of my time playing league and as soon as he is a viable meta pick he is going to get nerfed QnQ. WHY CAN'T I HAVE MY FUN RITO

Lugg2 votes

Ezreal has a horrible rep for some reason. When I pick him, people literally threaten to report me for trolling. I think he's a great champion.

Chespin20132 votes

indeed I played as galio against ezreal mid smite runeglaive and his damage is disgusting even as galio I couldn't even heal through his damage

Dedrius2 votes

Well the item is being buffed and I don't think they will nerf ez, he is weak as an ADC and still has a sub 50% winrate. They may try to change the item so it doesn't help him as much.

Sire Hippington5 votes

The item currently has a hige stealth nerf on PBE, it doesn't proc on-spell effeckts anymore. I'm not really sad that Ez can't proc Ludens that way. However, I'm quite pissed that it hits alot off fun synergies along the way, like Runegliave+Gunblade on some champs like Eve, or Runglaive+Rylais. It'S really sad how EZ causes different sheen items to get nerfed, hope Runglaive doesn't end up like Iceborn gauntlett, especially since he isn't even that problematic with it.(46.8% winrate with it so far)

They could atleast change spellvamp to heal from any damage dealt that doesn't use lifesteal, it's not like spellvamp is all that strong.

I got "Kingpin Twitch" since i already have all the champs. i wish i got the cute little white rat twitch skin this green one looks more diseased than how twitch normally looks.

Marinaras Trench2 votes

I FUCKING DIED WHEN I READ THIS I DON'T KNOW WHY IT WAS SO FUCKING HILARIOUS

brad2 votes

it literally gives less bonus damage than lich bane, less mana than lich bane, and less ap than lich bane

Lugg2 votes

Runeglaive is much cheaper, give you mana back on attacks, plus has CDR. Plus you have smite to secure CS and objectives.

Chessburger2 votes

It doesn't give you mana back. That only works on monsters and from your posts in this thread you are extremely biased.

Also having "secure cs/objectives" pales in comparison to having an actual combat summoner, especially in mid lane. And unless you're brain dead ezreal without a combat summoner won't be able to 1v1 kill you until he has glaive + at least a large rod which is almost 4k gold in of its own. And then you got outplayed if a champ that was forced to farm all game has managed to kill you. with 2 spells blockable by minions and ult doing increasingly less damage if it hits minions. He literally has no kill threat at all until well into mid-game.

Lugg1 votes

Wow, where to begin with this post.

First, yes it does give you 9% of your missing mana back and not from hitting monsters. It says so right in the description. Extremely biased. ROFL. I just stated pure facts. The bias is obviously all on your side. If he takes stalker or skirmisher, it is a combat summoner. If he takes Rangers, he gets much improved waveclear. Ezreal has never been a 1v1 kill threat early. He just safely farms until he hits his first power spike. Everyone should know that.

Once Ez comes online, he starts wrecking.

Chessburger2 votes

He needs ~2k gold before he gains a combat summoner. He has no pressure before that and even when he finishes glaive he's a non-threat unless you're an idget. He starts getting scary mid/early late-game if he gains items fast enough. Late late game enemy frontlines get bulky enough to render him less of a factor. And he still has no CC to offer so it desperately needs to be compensated in other parts of the team. And most of his damage can be tanked by the frontline if it does its job unless you somehow know they don't have flank vision and try to be an assassin. Oh and even with glaive (before he has 3 big ap items) he only has a modest amount of waveclear outside of his ult. And I was humble with the usage of the word modest.

And edit: just checked your first assumption. I'm assuming lol wiki is correct "Versus monsters, the empowered attack will also restore 8% of your missing mana." You even missed the % source: http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Runeglaive

Also I have to reiterate. Check your facts.

Oh and unless you didn't know he's plenty strong 1v1 at lvl 2 and 4 (depending on match-up), then it falls off, so if your enemy makes a mistake of trading too aggressively at those specific time-frames and you have ignite you have a good chance to get a kill assuming you play it out well. So taking smite because clearly runeglaive is better mid/late game means you lose even that pressure which means your enemy can do pretty much whatever he likes. Easiest way to ruin someone's day is push in and roam, takes a while to clear off a wave.

Let's hope this fad dies out quickly. The amount of poorly constructed half-arguments is pathetic.

Snowball4Damage2 votes

AP Ezreal is my main, in normals and ranked, and has been for about 2 years... im still on the fence about RG on him because is isn't a huge change at all to his overall damage. the only thing it changes is allows for lyandries and rylais if the enemy team is too tanky to burst, and allows for easier waveclear. The MAgic damage change is very welcome, as his q was essentially worthless past farming, but even benefitting from pen isn't always enough to justify getting smite instead of ignite, CV, cleanse, or heal all of the time since his q is still pathetic levels of damage. The change to runeglaive just means i'll go back to grabbing other summoner spells and still doing the most damage in the whole game even if im behind. Ez should have been an ap champ from the beginning, it's much stronger, reliable, and cohesive with his playstyle anyway.

Snowball4Damage2 votes

Also Riot already said laners bringing smite isn't necessarily a bad thing, it provides an interesting choice and diversity in the game as a whole. Honestly i liked the option of getting runeglaive as ez just so that i could do something to tanks if i needed too... Pigeon holing champ builds is just what riot wants to fix with the upcoming ap item changes so actually this change is just counter productive to riot's whole want for diverisity anyway.

ap ezreal W+R always did a ton of damage. with a full build my chops off like half an entire team's hp

JimmyNtheKudos2 votes

He fell off in the late-late game, but he pretty much carried Giants into almost victory for a good 20 minutes.

ChoGathsSon1 votes

To be fair, AP Ezreal actually does a lot of damage, even before runeglaive

You could argue AP Ez full build is stronger than AD Ez

Lugg2 votes

AP EZ has much better burst, but it has been mathematically proven that AD EZ does more overall damage. With Runeglaive, they may have to recalculate the numbers.

FastAsHeck1 votes

wait, did someone stop the fnatic deathball? i thought they were undefeatable lol

They are. They barely scraped by with the win vs giants and their ap ezreal but they did it. I think they're still like 11-0 or 12-0 lol
