Project: Ashe needs reworked

Lugg··61 votes·3,759 views

Skins are not supposed to give a champion an advantage in gameplay. This isn't the case with Project: Ashe. Her Ultimate and Hawkshot are VERY hard to tell apart as well as being hard to see when they are traveling across the map.

Please rework these two abilities to be easier to see and easier to tell apart.

They're aware of the situation and working on fixing the issues.

My only concern is how these issues got past QA and play test. Like legit didn't any rioters notice the problems with this skin ? Invisible ult etc. That's very alarming that an entire studio ( for a legendary skin you know it went around internally a lot) to miss this key issue.

I hope they address this issue internally and ensure all future skins are fair and balanced and isn't pay to fucking win.

Unless that's what they're going for :)

I wouldn't put it past Riot at this point to put money ahead of fairness.

because riot undermines almost everything that the PBE says that's why we had to wait 5 days for dark star threshitem 3070

I haven't been confused by the two, however, the blue effect from the ult is hard to look at.

Psychologically and anatomically speaking, blue, relative to other colors on the spectrum that humans can perceive, is a color that is harder to look at. It makes your eyes more tired or your eyes, at times, wants to ignore it.

This is similar to the effects the changes to the UI had on players. Remember that time we all complained about the UI being too blue and hard to look at, well the ulti on Ashe is having a similar effect on player.

The particles are similar on her E and R, however, the color i feel is the real issue since i can actually still distinguish between them. But good God, it can be hard to look at or perceive in the first place for both E and R.

In conclusion, the Project Ashe skin needs a rework, as it is harder to perceive if an ability is used at all and/or bothersome to look at.

I didn't know that about colors. I think her ultimate should be BRIGHT WHITE crystal arrow. Just like her other skins. Currently the projectiles is too small.

GenghisEmo1 votes

I don't think the projectile is "small", however, as i perceive it, it is too "blurry" and it might be that is what you mean by small.

Were you playing around the time the UI changes went through and the minimap and cdrs were the worst thing to look at? I feel the something similar in the way i perceive and look at the arrow.

Saying the skin needs a rework, especially when it's a legendary skin that changes a ton, makes it sounds like everything needs to be scrapped.

Changing the shade of the ult projectile should do. It should still be blue, to fit with the color and theme of the skin, but maybe a paler blue and perhaps doing something to the spiral aura around the arrow to make it stand out more.

The E drone is fine - it's black and grey with helicopter rotors. It's a very short object so I have a hard time believing that people can regularly mistake a small, square, black drone with a long, thin, blue arrow. The sheer size different of the particles should be a massive cue.

Maybe just give the ult arrow a sparkling effect so it catches the eye more?

The ult should look like her old one but without the arrow details like the tail. Take the basic, outline it, bold the outline, add the skin theme overlay.

GenghisEmo1 votes

Well, rework is not the best word to use, and i see that. It needs a color change or something to make it stand out more. I'm sure the context was still there in my previous omment XD.

Like i said, i don't confuse the two. However, the ult does need something to help it stand out and a color that is "easier" to look at. As it is right now, seems like it can give people an unfair advantage as some people are struggling with it, though i have yet to be convinced on the unfair advantage thing.

I thought blue, the color of the sky is easy to look at, like green, while red is hard to look at.

GenghisEmo2 votes

Actually, blue is really hard to look at. Sky blue is different, it is a very subtle blue. Water is obvious blue. However, the blue in game is like looking at a digital clock with blue numbers, even people with 20/15 vision struggle to make out the colors. Hence, red is the more obvious color to use in digital products as opposed to blue. Digital letters and details need to be in things other than blue. Reason why Blue Screen backgrounds are not as popular, and we prefer black or white. It's to some extent, like using serifs in writing or printed documents, and san-serifs in digital text. It's easier on the eyes, at least to the average person.

And statistically speaking, i noticed red is easier to deal with. While digital blue text and particles, makes things harder for most people i know, to either perceive something or look at it without struggling. Hence, we had to fix the UI from being super blue to what it is now, a more balanced blue set.

If you are looking at hardcore reds, or trying to distinguish from different shades of red, especially those in physical print, then red is more annoying to look at.

General Esdeath 1 votes

You can distinguish, but when some players see it for a nano-second, they panic and may flash or try to avoid it.

shoots Hawkshot to bait Flash shoots them in the face with ultimate afterwards

Hue.

redfeenix2 votes

Just make the ultimate bright white. Hawkshit is fine I guess

Romtheguy1 votes

Hawkshit. My sides. (I hope that typo was intentional)

AlistarMilking6 votes

I don't see how people are confusing Hawkshot with the ult: one's a black drone and the other one's a big-ass blue arrow :/

I will say, however, that her smoother auto-attack animations are a huge buff to her kiting, but that's the same for all old champions with a legendary skin like Anivia, Cho'Gath or Veigar.

Project Ekko W pls

MrryZ2 votes

What about it?

Umbra Ionia3 votes

Its hard to see the edges of the ability. Especially in grass areas.

MrryZ2 votes

I haven't noticed that, tbh i don't really see much project ekkos though.

Popppyseed1 votes

Its way more clear than normal ekko, not like that means much since its a super easy to see ability in general

LadyRenly5 votes

ones an arrow, ones a drone, how are people still having trouble with this?

ive had project ashes literally fire hawkshots right at me to try and cheese a flash but its obvious to tell, unless you are a twitchy cod gamer

Requiemsfire3 votes

How would you confuse hawkshot with her ultimate?

Lugg1 votes

They look very similar to a lot of players.

rinnychuu3 votes

not sure why they cant just add black to balance out the colors and make it easier to see :/ riot has some work to do but they did say they would fix it soooo hopefully! Ashe

l Helios l2 votes

The particles are just very different from original ones and require getting use to. That's what makes it annoying. Clarity would be helpful

Bronze fiend2 votes

You're making such a fuss out of it. The ultimate is not invisible and the Hawkshot particle are clearly not similar to ultimate's. Let's just all jump into the whine train cause why not.

I feel like mentioning as well. The project's ultimate is clearly not as visible as the ashe's default one, but that does not mean it's invisible or hard to see. Ye, slightly harder to see but far from hard to see.

Lugg1 votes

Try telling the difference in a split second while it's traveling down the river. The two of them look VERY similar at a glance.

Elite4Runner1 votes

This isn't a rework, this is more like an issue with color saturation, which is not really that difficult to fix. Any delay in releasing a fix to this will probably come down to them not finding it that big of a priority.

Pika Fox1 votes

Its not as simple as that.

You need to assign a team to fix it.

You need to test the fix.

You need to assign a date/team to patch it in.

Off schedule patches are risky and more likely something will break, causing further issues.

redfeenix1 votes

Depends in the fix. Are they just gonna change some colors or rework the projectiles?

I also find it harder to dodge challenger nidalee's Q, I wonder if it's just me

Nanoucraft1 votes

I literally cannot dodge any of nidalee's spears XD i think it's just hard.

i cant dodge janna Q's its weird.

I don't see a huge problem with the ult being somewhat harder to see. How often do you really side step an Ashe arrow? Unless you're vayne, ezreal, or have a zhonyas or something

Bhagswag1 votes

More often than not.

Nanoucraft2 votes

It is hard to see the arrow. I mean for me xD i don't have the best computer and all and It is hard to see it. I mean it fades so well xD

rip the colorblind peoples.

League Police1 votes

I have a taoster too and I can tell the difference find, however you should try color blind mode

Nanoucraft1 votes

Is it even harder?? xD I have the worse toaster tbh..

I have a potato

Every single time.

Lugg3 votes

I've wasted a flash on her hawkshot thinking it was her ult.

Aatrox Mid 1v51 votes

I dont know man, ive never had a problem telling them apart from eachother

Fawksea1 votes

My friend plays a lot of ashe and insta bought the skin and after getting used to seeing the E and ult it really doesnt bother me also i like how nobody's mentioned the same thing with ekko's passive. it's very hard to see since it went from (one circle, two circle, passive proc'd) too (one circle, some weird ass shit that makes a big circle, passive proc'd)

Skins are not supposed to give a champion an advantage in gameplay

Do you guys remember santa Veigar with his cage full of xmass tree lights and balls?

I couldn't see trough it (too much colours = too much information = brain shutdown). What Riot did to fix that? They ignored my plea.

So.. Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooood luck with Ashe. I bet Riot will give just as many fucks as they did with Veigars case.

Oh Btw, arclight Varus or Justicar Vel'koz are also P2W in ARAM. Cause you won't be able to see their white skillshots even if your life depended on it.

Burnt Light1 votes

...Really? People are actually finding it difficult determining the difference between her ulti and hawkshot?

Must be a lot of blind people here. Sure though, as long as it still looks good.
