Warwick doesn't need 50% free damage reduction

Why can't you just get it through your heads, nobody needs 50% free damage reduction. Nobody needs 50 thousand fucking free shields to function. Nobody needs 90% free arpen, or 80% hp damage. One of the many reasons why the game's balance is so shit and you need to keep "reworking" older champs is cause you keep powercreeping champs to the point where they just don't even need items to force whatever it is you want them to do.

What a shocker, certainlyT with the 50% dmg reduction, 300% bonus AS mobility creep this is totally a rework play.

I generally agree that Riot has a habit of power-creeping their game.

But that said...honestly? Warwick does need 50% free damage reduction.

Look at his kit. The only things he has in it presently are attack speed, a point-click stun, movespeed, and healing. What good is any of that? If he's not tanky, the healing does nothing. The movespeed and attack speed do no good if he isn't tanky, and has no way to avoid being CC'd / kited to death.

If he doesn't build On-Hit effect items, he does no damage.

So you end up devoting your jungle item, and then another item, such as Wit's End or BotRK, or Titanic Hydra, etc. so that you can actually do something once you get onto someone. Sometimes even a third item is devoted to this one gimmick, which is pressing R on someone and deleting them, or drain-tanking them to death.

Presently, Warwick either gets a significant lead (or abuses broken itemization, such as Feral Flare) and becomes an unkillable gnat that slowly slaps you to death, or he gets CC'd the second he goes in and pops like a balloon.

This rework might be a little overtuned presently, but the design philosophies of it are solid.

I'm not telling you how to play him.

I'm telling you what he does and how he's played.

I don't want Warwick on my team. I don't want to face one. They're boring, predictable, and feel extremely underwhelming no matter how well they do.

That's why he's being reworked.

It's the nature of drain-tanks. They're binary. They either can kill you, or you can kill them, get away, or etc. and they do nothing. Aatrox has the same issue.

It's not free, it costs him a skill and mana. Why should vi get free gap closer and knockback? Why should malphite get free slow and movespeed buff? Why should ziggs get free poke?

See? Your point makes no sense, he has 50% damage reduction cause it's part of his kit, it's called power budget and it comes instead of damage/mobility/CC

It doesn't get that high till rank 4 and I'm not sure if he's going to max it second or third.

From what I've been looking at, maxing that 3rd is the thing on the PBE right now, but then again he was just released yesterday so he's still heavy in build testing. That being said I understand why it would be 3rd. He only has 1 damaging base-spell (his Q) so he needs a little bit extra damage output, in his case it coming from the bonus attack speed through his W. 50/65/80/95/110% extra attack speed adding in the on-hit magic damage his passive gives him a little bit extra to stay in trades (AS tripling when the attacked target drops to under 20% HP).

Sure his E gives him damage reduction, but it comes at a heavy cost of damage. After you Q and ult, what else is left? The fear duration doesn't go up with ability rank, only the cooldown dropping (15/14/13/12/11) and the DR going up (35/40/45/50/55%).

So for now I think I'll plan on maxing Q W E in that order at 1st when he launches (granted all numbers can change easily in 2 weeks).

I like new WW.. I probably won't play him since I play support (Braum and Tahm) and have been playing Tahm Kench a lot more and am starting to main him.

The reason they have to keep making melee champions like this is because ranged champions have become so absurdly strong, that such tools are needed in order to do their jobs consistently. Playing any melee that's not a tank is more or less a gamble, with the odds largely not being in your favor. There is too much CC and ranged burst in this game now, it's just how it is.
