If Riot is so intent on "class" updates why the hell don't "class" specific items exist

Ego? Cause that would mean admitting you can't actually balance a game where Zed can build the same items as Lucian?

So what you're saying is, Zed shouldn't be able to use the same water fountain as Lucian? Way to be counter-productive.

Automated Riven11 votes

i am pretty sure he said that lucian shouldnt be able to use the same fountain as zed. Luc has to stay at the adc water fountain.

Hardstuck G41 votes

Hey now, let me little baby Luci drinking wherever he wants!

Automated Riven1 votes

if we let the little luc drink anywhere he wants the it ruins the racism parallel.

Hardstuck G42 votes

Luc Luc can be a mid laner if he wants! Let him drink where he wants ;-;

50000000000000001 votes

Well I guess Lucian can just sit in the mid lane and make Zed go somewhere else.

Hardstuck G42 votes

Zed can DC

500000000000000021 votes

I guess the itemization would remain separate but equal

ReZisT Lust3 votes

Lucian deserves his own fountain, he fought for that water.

macromite1 votes

Let's be real here, lucian only served as a token member of the anti shadow isles group.

ReZisT Lust1 votes

There used to be 2 sides to that coin.

togapika6 votes

Hopefully they can at least make it 3/5 of the way towards a compromise

Cheese Pope1 votes

Lucian has to stay at the fountain if he doesn't want zed to delete him

Big Lincoln28 votes

because one of the biggest things that separates league from other games is that you can build (almost) whatever you want and still do well, and Zed and Lucian are both AD casters so they want the same items anyway

Timely Voidling8 votes

It's also one of the reasons why the game is such an unbalanced shitfest all the time, because you've got certain Champs that build and abuse items they were never intended to use.

Ralanr14 votes

That's the price of diversity.

Timely Voidling4 votes

{quoted}

That's the price of seeing the same exact Champs every single game abusing items never intended for them until Riot guts the items and says "Fuck everyone else that used this, not our problem."

so no marksman or melee carry should be allowed to build durability? tanks shouldn't be allowed to build damage? supports too? I shouldn't be allowed to build support items as anyone that isn't labeled support?

terrible idea, you'd have a completely different game if this happened and there'd be so much hair-splitting over which champ should be allowed to build what

Verdade2 votes

Actually, back in s1-2 ADCs had MUCH more damage and they were less broken than now. What breaks ADCs is tankiness and easy acess to utility

Big Lincoln2 votes

it's a problem when they have access to all of those things at once

1 or 2 isn't really an issue. In fact I would be much more interested in the ADC role if we had a new one that focused heavily on utility

Looknook1 votes

Jhin, Ashe, Kalista and Sivir are the closest things to utility ADC's that Riot have made. All of them offer some nice utility to their team in their own unique way.

Anidan1 votes

This is true. These carries tend to be a bit less focused on personal DPS and more concerned with team utility. Especially Ashe and Kalista.

As a result, they're absolutely loathed when they're strong. So take that as you will.

Big Lincoln1 votes

ashe has amazing DPS, what are you talking about

Anidan1 votes

Do.. do people not...

These carries tend to be less focused on personal DPS and more concerned with team utility.

DPS is not her focus, her utility is. She only has a single ability that supports her doing high DPS and that's her Q. Everything else is utility.

Surfer Ashe1 votes

Compared to most champs, sure, but within the class, her DPS is on the lower end of the spectrum.

Big Lincoln1 votes

maybe after nerfs but I remember very recently that she had one of the highest damage done stats as an ADC

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

item 3070 Varus item 3070 Has one of the shittiest steroids to compensate for his utility and doesn't get counted.

Looknook1 votes

My bad. I actually really like Varus, just not used to thinking of him as an ADC but as a poke midlaner.

Radiant Wukong1 votes

This is a lie, back in S2 I could have a freaking BotRK and BT with item 3006 built on my marksman with farm alone by the freaking 12 minute mark.

Anidan2 votes

Mathematically speaking that's impossible, but alright.

Ariel the Cruel2 votes

BotRK wasn't even a thing until around the last patch of S2, first patch of S3. But ok.

Anidan2 votes

Don't you add more evidence to support me! I don't need help, mommy! T-T

Radiant Wukong1 votes

I started post-season S2. The very first game I played I used Riven, it was her free week. Don't remember the other F2P champs.

I even remember my build... Riven item 3078 item 3146 item 3072 item 3006 item 3031 item 3089

Surfer Ashe1 votes

BotKR wasn't around in Season 2, friend.

While I do agree with you, I feel that if they implemented it in a way that was small-scaled (ie only a few items are limited in this fashion), then it could be used as a very powerful balance tool. Think of it sort of like how melee and ranged only passive/actives used to exist on multiple items and then take it a step further and limit certain items to specific classes.

Also, it generally isn't tanks (I am referring to tanks only, not tanky classes like juggernauts and bruisers) abusing damage items so odds are they might be able to build any item they want (whether said item is a good buy is of course up for debate).

True 100% tank items also aren't usually abused by classes, it is generally the damage/tankyness hybrid items (such as steraks) that lead to problems. If steraks could only be bought on bruisers, tanks, juggernauts, and divers a lot of the issues with the item would have been significantly reduced, and champions like gnar, who is a bruiser, would still be able to build it.

Very Hard Engage1 votes

item 3085 item 3074

Ralanr3 votes

IMO they are only coded like that because coding hurricane for melee is a big can of worms.

Big Lincoln2 votes

almost

Ahristocats1 votes

What? almost every champions in league have a set build path that is true since the night of creation of this game

Unlike where in dota2 items power lay in their active while having garbage stats (except dodge), making you able to build anything depending on which active you want to counter the enemies ie: blink dagger, refresher orb

Big Lincoln2 votes

not really, its more streamlined now but there are/were a lot of champions with AD, AP, hybrid builds, tank builds

Wouldn't mind more of that tbh

Champion Skin1 votes

Yes you can build almost all items on any champion.... though I don't really think League would be that much worse of a game if like Riven and other champions with no AP scaling couldn't buy items like item 3089

kitcat30011 votes

Have they not tried with each update?

Marksmen update item 3094 item 3087 item 3085 item 3508 item 3033 item 3036

**Assassin update ** item 3147 item 3814 and remade item 3142

**Juggernaut update ** item 3053 item 3742 item 3748

Hell with every preseason we get new support items item 3504 item 3109 item 3050 item 3107 and remadeitem 3190 item 3174

NiceTryVi1 votes

Only Runaans on that list is restricted to ranged. Anybody can buy any other of those items.

GrReaper964 votes

Titanic is melee only

TehNACHO1 votes

Well.

Nobody buys Rapidfire on Melees, and Essence Reaver and Last Whisper's Upgrades are niche enough that further restrictions are overkill Other than when they were poorly tuned on the PBE, almost nobody buys Lethality items on ADCs or DPS based Melee Carries Titanic Hydra is only used on Bulky Melees that Auto Attack a lot, serving its purpose And anybody can buy Support items but nobody actually does buy Support items except for Supports unless there's a hyper-specific abuse case item 3092

Just because I can buy Essence Reaver on Poppy or Sterak's Gage on Xerath doesn't mean much. The rare few times that an item is being used by an unintended user are specific abuse cases and rarely a systematic error.

Champion Skin1 votes

item 3094 item 3031 wasn't all that bad on Rengar though that was before the changes

TehNACHO1 votes

Okay great, a hyper niche case. A failure of the item system as a whole however? Not so much.

I find it fun on Illaoi.

Not good, but fun.
