Vote Now: Is Urgot a Ranged Juggernaut or an AD Artillery Mage?
I like to play Urgot myself from time to time and both of these identities are basically what Urgot is, yet both are almost polar opposites. I think Riot is struggling with which of the two they want to stick when they rework him.
On one hand, he acts like somewhat of a ranged Juggernaut that you don't want to get close to and that you don't want to allow to give enough space to do his damage. Just look at his high consistent base damage on his Q, his Shield on his W, his absolutely amazing engaging and lock-down tool with his ultimate and all the amount of damage reduction he gets from his Passive and Ult, up to a total of 65%.
On the other hand, Urgot is also somewhat of an AD version of Xerath, relentlessly poking letting artillery fire rain down on your enemies, land one E and your Q poke is absolutely amazing because of the ridiculously high range you get on a single target spell. I mean, if a skillshot has super high range it's dodgeable and avoidable but when a 2 second single targeted damaging spell has double the range of most marksmen auto attack ranges, it obviously becomes a poking tool.
Both of these identities don't really work together. The Juggernaut part of him doesn't want all the range he has on his Q and E and would just want to trade it with more damage and tankiness while the Artillery Mage part of him wants to get completely rid of his Passive, Ult and maybe the shield part of his W and get more tools to better poke his enemies down from far away.
The decision Riot as a designing team and we as players have to make is which aspect we want to live on in his reworked kit.
There are arguments for both sides. For example, a ranged champion that is a juggernaut and that is designed to be tanky is in my opinion a more unique concept than an AD Artillery Mage/Marksman Hybrid, we already kind of have that in the form of Varus and Ezreal. But if you would remove his ultimate and replace it with something else, something that would definitely happen if he'd get to be an Artillery Mage, the ult concept could be used on a future champion release.
I personally am more of a fan of Juggernaut Urgot but I'll let you decide for yourself.
