Help dealing with low-skill players (asking for another suspension)

The Highest Noon··1 votes·1,156 views

every game you're put on a team with players who don't have a grasp of basic gameplay strategies, junglers who don't gank over-extending enemy laners, supports that don't know how to use their ward items and out farm ADCs who don't allow their support to utilize their gold income item, top laners that never leave the island, players who either don't pay attention to their maps or refuse to leave their lane and help their allies that are a short distance away?

I get the idea that there's always a "nice" way to handle situations, but let's be real here. When someone's doing what you're constantly warning them against doing and making your gameplay experience terrible, it's frustrating. When people refuse to listen or otherwise have no idea what they're doing and bringing the team down, it's frustrating. When you're constantly trying your hardest to get a win and everybody else either just cannot keep up or cannot help the team reach victory, it's frustrating.

How do you deal with those types of players that doesn't require you to just roll over and accept losing?

Not even gonna bother mentioning players who rather talk trash than accept and learn from their mistakes, troll because they do what they want, etc...

I'm at my item 3091 here. I see now why people either pay boosters or just buy accounts with high elo. Rummaging through low elo gameplay isn't worth it.

You don't. You give them advice and if they don't take it then you ignore them and play. You get good at the game and steam roll the hell out of your matches so that when you give advice then people are more inclined to listen because "That dood is good, he might know what he's talking about."

Just don't rage and accept that you can't make people do what they don't want to do.

Tried. People refuse to listen and if you even HINT at superiority they troll. It's almost impossible to not rage.

I didn't say hint, I said get good. Be 11/0/2 then tell your team to push mid or my favorite "I'll push bot, y'all top. If they send 4 to kill me take baron, if less I'll 1v3 and y'all inhib then baron"

Just have to show that you know what you're talking about, because actions/words metaphor.

because actions/words metaphor.

This made me laugh and I don't know why.

But even though you're right, I think you missed my point. Even if you're doing well it won't lead to people listening to you; it just leads to them being upset over doing worse and then insert the "Fuck you I do what I want" dialogue from them. No, seriously. This has happened before. I usually end up tilted and saying "You're being carried, so listen to the carries."

where you never new and not knowing what you were doing? learning the game? oh wait you were! and you havent mastered the game yet thats why your not pro or #1 challenger player. so you are still learning the game.

if you have issues playing with low lvl players dont create a smurf to play with them

Yes, until around level 20--and not the NEW level 20 that's really just level 10 because of all the level-up assistance given, I mean Season 3 level 20 where there were no arams no rotating game modes nothing but play for a week straight and you'll finally get a single level up.

When I was new, do you know what I did? I played bots so I could get a feel for the game. I watched youtube videos and professional games to see what others were doing. Now that I think about it, i was watching League tournaments before I even knew fully what League was. I put in the effort to LEARN what to do and EXPERIENCE good gameplay before I ever reached Ranked game mode. You would RARELY see anyone make the kinds of mistakes that you see now below Platinum outside of Bronze back then. Nowadays I'm lucky to get a Jungler that fully knows when to and when not to gank, or supports that commit to both supporting the adc as well as warding and checking objectives, and I learned to do that at LOW levels.

Don't get me wrong--I'm not saying I'm the best or even that I'm amazing and I'm not saying that everyone should be pro LCS watching youtube tutorials, but it would help to learn how to play from more experienced players before you join a team game, and it would help even more to be able to accomplish the bare basics before joining any truly competitive game mode.

"You were once a noob" shouldn't be the response to players in Ranked making elementary mistakes.

its low elo people are still learning the game. the game since season 5 has been watered and dumbed down. you get free wards, it gives u trinket if u leave base with out it. you get buff timers, baron/drag timers , so on and so on.

riot is catering to the casual player /new player not to the hardcore vets. hence why you feel this way, that maybe u didnt have the same mistakes cuz of not having aram/rotating game modes etc. you watched and learned etc and put in time. thats fine. but the new player base dont. hence most of the post you see are people crying about things they dont understand in game.

also people dont learn at the same speed or curve as others. this is noticed all through school work / life. also people dont take the game seriously , they wanna play for fun. mash buttons and do damage.

but to think you are the one to teach and train them is wrong cuz ur just some nameless/faceless person in their game they are see flaming them. whether or not that is how its intended. not every one is gonna play the way you want. you cant control that. focus on you, get better. improve and as you do and climb ( if you do ) then maybe you will be placed with people you feel know how to play the game.

but wanna know a secret? even people in diamond talk shit about other diamonds dont know how to play they game and how they are bad/stupid etc. every one thinks they know better. its easy to see and say that objectively as a 3rd person. just go watch a streamer in diamond elo or higher and all you hear is how shit their teams are how they are boosted. so regardless of the elo no one is good at this game

Haha, that is true. I understand what you're saying on a fundamental level. I decided to stop and think about how I am in various game modes:

  • I NEVER flame in ARAM, because it's just all about having fun with random nonsense. Bad plays happen but it is what it is as long as you're having fun
  • I NEVER flame in normals but I do offer advice because I know that when it comes to normal matchmaking you can be paired up with anybody from noobs to diamond players.
  • I DO flame in PBE but that's only towards the people who actively refuse to try to win or just act as toxic as possible "because it's pbe." I say "flame" but tbh it's never that bad, just the usual "You should try even if it's pbe. That's no excuse to suck."

Ranked is really the only time I get truly tilted, and I can't find a reason to fault myself for it. It's Ranked. It's the only game mode that truly, TRULY matters. I can agree with what you're saying for anything EXCEPT Ranked. You should not be a beginner in ranked. You should not play "bad" in ranked. Yes, there should be room to improve because not everybody who competes in anything is Top-3 Material, but it's irresponsibile for there to not be an expected standard level of skill. Ranked is not normals. Ranked is not practice tool. Ranked is not Aram and Ranked is not bots. You should not play Ranked with the same skill level you expect to see in everything outside of Ranked. It's the Competitive Game Mode, after all. There has to be a required skill floor, and the lack thereof is why such concepts like Elo Hell exists.

MrFawknSunshine2 votes

elo hell only exist in the mind.

lets take a popular streamer ... use to be pro , has been master and challenger . stuck in diamond this season bouncing from d5-d3 he says he is in elo hell cuz of teammates. which yes you are some what dependent on you team doing better then the enemy to win unlike in seasons pass where on player can get stupid fed and solo carry. riot has nearly eliminated that aspect from the game. its a team game. i see the good n bad in that. but maybe he isnt as good as he is use to. maybe he hasnt adjusted to this season as well as before. maybe he just isnt as dedicated. who knows. but someone who is truly good at the game before should be good again but isnt where he is use to . that is his elo hell in his mind.

but then again we see TF BLADES get challenger again over and over. and other high high elo players in high diamond and higher every season.

i do agree if you are gonna play rank do your best to win. you are still gonna be out played, make mistakes and sometimes the games just wont be in your favor.

however if you are in low elo ( bronze) playing with NEW RANK/1st TIME RANK players and cant get out... well thats not their fault. thats on you.

but as you did , study game, watch league, vids streamers etc to learn. i did the same. starting back in season 2. highest i ever got rank was gold in season 5 and i havent ranked since cuz i just dont care, i play for fun , play normals to pass the time when i have nothing to do.

but i knew right at lvl 30 i wasnt ready for rank ... i tired it. i was bad. then i quickly stopped and re learned and re evaluated my skill/play. new players who hit lvl 30 are excited and wanna test their might and see how they stand up and realize quickly they can be over their head. its a learning curve.

i remember watching a video years ago telling me i need to have at least 250 wins in normals and know 2 champs per role before i ranked. like i said at 1st i didnt pay attention and jumped in... then i went back and re learned and did what that video taught me. 250 wins after lvl 30 and 2 champs per role.

i understand the frustration. but their isnt anything you can do about it in game. just dont let those get to you and tilt cuz once you are tilted it effects other games. and well if you get tilted enough you can be punished and banned.

Yeah, I already have one account banned and my second is on 14-day starting today. I'm not even upset about the bans because rules are rules and all that. This game is just not for people who truly wish to compete. It's not like Basketball or Football or any other sport out there. If someone on your team makes a mistake in those, you tell them; the playets tell their teammates, the coaches tell their players, even the opponents say it, even the fans say it. Only in League of Legends is it a point that you are not allowed to tell someone the mistakes they made.

Or maybe my problem is that I'm just too assertive. It grates the nerves when someone does the same mistake, despite being told what that mistake is, and all they can do is complain. Ranked is nothing but a frustrating experience.

well now that u are on a 14 day ban i wouldnt say alot cuz any lil thing since you have been flagged as a toxic player will result in another perma ban. i would really just not use chat at all unless its like to say hey jungle top, lets push mid, group, drag etc just generic bs such as that.

after a good while after this. then maybe you can be like oh hey *insert random champ * on next team fight make sure you ult insert random champ they are fed. but nothing that could be construed as toxic/flaming. and when people do well as stupid as it seems say GJ or WP something. you be surprised how just lil things like that can take a player who is tilted and turn it around and make them do better/try hard. as compared to flame, yelling etc. cuz people just shut down or argue back. if they shut down they give up and dont care. if they argue back then you get more tilted and it goes in cycle and escalates.

i was in a game where i was getting smashed top , 0-3-1 vs a fiora team didnt flame me or anything. i just kept playing we turned it around i went from 0-3-1 to 3-5-10 so a 3-2-9 turn around and we won game. i even said in chat during game sorry for bad start/fed team was like no worries keep on trying. i didnt get tilted , team didnt tilt or flame over it. we all played well as a team and won.

alot of winning and losing is mindset. part of that mindset is accepting what you are responsible for good and bad , not getting tilted ... being in a focus clear state of mind so you can play at your best.

and when people do well as stupid as it seems say GJ or WP something. you be surprised how just lil things like that can take a player who is tilted and turn it around and make them do better/try hard.

And that's the thing--I looooove to say GJ and Nice Play whenever my team does good things. I love to encourage good behavior, and even when I see someone being flamed for something like not grouping or getting caught out, I still encourage them because at least they're trying their hardest to make plays.

It's not those little mistakes that get on my nerves. I'm in Silver right now, somewhere around mid to low, and in almost every single game there will be 2-3 players who are just toxic in both personality and gameplay. I don't mean the people who make mistakes, I mean the ones who outright refuse to correct their mistakes or assist another player--those players who rather do whatever they want than what could actually help the team. I have no tolerance for trolls is what I'm saying. It doesn't matter what I try. When my team is doing nothing but complaining, I easily just type /mute all. And as I said above if someone is making honest mistakes while trying, I whole-heartedly accept that and offer help to them. But when someone says "you should ward river so you don't get surprised by ganks" and the person their talking to reacts with "stfu maybe if this shit jungler helped" my nerves get shot entirely.

That just goes back to my opinion about how ranked players should play lol

Maybe I just don't have the personality to play this game or be in my elo. Frustrating is what it is. I know I keep saying that but I can't stress it enough that this game has a frustrating playerbase and Riot needs to do something about it instead of punishing those who are affected by it.

The most important thing to realize is that you can only ever control yourself. Try to be friendly with your team and and offer constructive HUMBLE advise. Be liberal with praise and very very scarse with criticism.

Other people will try harder if you hold cheese in front of them. So look for things you can recognize them for.

Examples. One of your teammates has a high cs score. Tell him about it. Someone gets a double. Say good job. Don't be the factor that tilts other players.

Also phase things as though your including your team. Don't dictate. So don't command people to "group mid" say something like "hey I think we can teamfight, I think we win if we fight mid.

These won't work every time. But you will have far better luck.

Also, very important. If someone is raging at you be very very fast to apologize. IMHO there is always something I/you could have done better. So when someone starts to tilt accept full responsibility. Don't blame, just say 'my bad, I messed up'. This will help un tilt a ton of players and save you some games here and there. (Even if you played it 100% perfectly and there was nothing you could have done. Allow them to be right. It helps more then you know) take yourself for example. If you call someone out for making a mistake (I recommend against it) your less likely to be upset if they tell you that your correct. So treat other players that way.

The Highest Noon1 votes

That's hard to do for me, mainly because it's basically ass-kissing lol (I'm referring to the apologizing when you didn't make the mistakes part, not the praising good gameplay part as I've mentioned my last comment) and I've never been an ass-kisser. Maybe I'm just doomed to either being punished or just muting everybody. That's a depressing thought.

I can accept criticism and I explain why I did what I did if ever someone blames me for something. There's an unbalanced amount of pure toxicity than actual criticism in this game, though.

I don't tilt others, I'm tilted by tilted players. That's a distinction that Riot's Zero-Tolerance policy ignores I guess.

Automated Riven1 votes

Well. I don't consider it ass kissing tbh. Because, being realistic, there is a very high probability that every time we die, there was a way we could a prevented it. (wards, better mechanics, flashing earlier, backing off of a dive earlier rather trying to outplay it exc) it's simply acnologing that probability. I am likely high silver or mid gold. There is no realistic rational for me to argue that I even do the majority of things right In my games. So if someone is claiming I am wrong I just assume they are correct. If I played perfectly I would only ever die in game if it was securing a net win for my team.

I don't suggest explaining in tmgame tho. It distracts two players from the game. You in your explanation and the tilted rager in his counterpoints that he has to prove for his ego. It's far easier just to bite the bullet and accept that you probably made a mistake somewhere and in tilt the player.

(This can also be very handy IRL when dealing with other people as well)

It's far easier just to bite the bullet and accept that you probably made a mistake somewhere and [un]tilt the player.

Hard to do when half your team is blaming you for everything no matter how much you do right. Even when you get the win it's still "even though this player was trash." I can say without a doubt that this game has a pretty sizeable amount of truly toxic players, and with how Riot handles punishments that toxicity will only forever spread until this game is shut down. It really does suck that all of my punishments are because of me responding to toxic players.

Yeah the punishments are my fault, yeah I'm terrible at dealing with toxic people (too much "eye for an eye" on my end), but I'll bet everything that the number of punishments made would take a significant drop if Riot suddenly stopped punishing people who respond to toxicity.
