Once again, overspecialization; countering yourself and factors people don't consider
People keep complaining that it's the tank meta. Those people are fucking morons. They're all AD melee assassins; their greatest bane is the fucking tank! But then I shouldn't be surprised. The fucking mastery and crate system has barely been out for a year and people have let their stupidity brought about by generations of inbreeding and anti-intelligence spiral off into make believe bullshit about how those systems work. The rest of the game has been out a lot longer, and people are so obsessed with getting all of the pentakills in the world that they focus ONLY on the AD melee assassins and get hard countered so easily by people like me. It's not fucking rocket science or quantum physics, but then in this climate, even the most elementary of knowledge and intelligence is hailed as fucking witchcraft.
Last game, I noticed that the enemy was all AD melee assassin. At the same time, our team went all AD melee assassin. I hate it when this comes up, because that means that we lack, among many, MANY things, durability, crowd control and range. I pine for the day that will never happen when Riot releases a champion that literally does it all. So I go against my better judgement and play a tank. Volibear, specifically. I get an early lead because the enemy is just as dumb as I predicted and am used to, and I go on to spearhead every attack on their objectives, including getting within spitting distance of their nexus. Meanwhile the meatsacks continue to teamfight jungle camps, ignore the dragon and baron and yell at me for split pushing when I'm doing basically all of the REAL work around the Rift, including but not limited to warding, defending, peeling for allies and actually taking objectives. I focus on the objectives because as an all melee, all AD, all in all assassin team with absolutely zero crowd control against a team WITH crowd control, slows, and a lot of mobility to dodge exactly our one and ONLY tactic, we weren't going to win many teamfights unless the enemy got sloppy or we got lucky, which is EXACTLY what you DON'T want to rely on, but once again, inbreds.
I take more turrets and objectives than everyone else combined, all the while they're screaming in the all chat to report me for intentionally feeding. I draw away Zed and Xin (their most fed and dangerous champions) at the same time as I push bot lane to the hilt, leaving the fight 4 to 3 in the mid lane, and they STILL lose! By the way, I somehow manage to escape, but not before turning around to pull Zed inside out.
For most of the game, what am I doing? Pushing objectives. What is the team doing? Teamfighting the fucking jungle camps and ignoring all the lanes being pushed. While complaining that I'm doing nothing at best, and trolling at worst.
All that aside, we overspecialized. I saw that we overspecialized long before the game started, and I saw that the enemy was building to be anti-mobility, the ONLY thing that could allow us to close the gap with the enemy, which was the only way we'd be able to do damage. If you specialize to that degree as a team, you better be sure as shit of your game, because the very instant that doesn't work, you've basically already lost, and no one is smart enough in this game to do anything else but go all in. The only reason why I picked a tank was so that we'd have SOME kind of durability, and I knew that if I was a mage, I'd be the only one pushing or defending, which would mean the enemy would zero in on me, which would mean I'm dead unless there's a strong frontline ahead of me for the enemy to busy themselves with. Being a utility mage is out of the question because the team spends more effort clearing jungle camps than they do anything else, and I refuse to further overspecialize the team to the point of self-parody (and nine reports) by picking an assassin for the support role.
So basically, I had to decide between being a mage, which means we'd have no tank, or being a tank, which means we'd have no range or magic damage, but at the same time, the enemy would have to focus all of their firepower on me to kill me, even with an ignite. On top of that, I'd be much more capable as a tank at pushing the lanes and destroying turrets than if I was a mage, and no one else was going to be pushing anything once the laning phase was over! And this is a problem I'm constantly faced with, and one I constantly am the only one who is able or willing to try and stop it.
This goes back to my point that I've been making for the past several years now, almost as long as I've been playing the game. Overspecializing DOESN'T WORK. It never has worked. If you overspecialize and the enemy is able to stop the one and only thing you're really good at, you'll have no answer for it, and short of some lucky streak or the enemy's sheer incompetence, you're almost guaranteed to lose each and every time. It's not just about having a tank either, or a utility support. There are literally hundreds of factors to consider for each and every team composition, let alone individual champions. People just tend to stop on the very surface and think they know more than google, at best. At worst, they just read meta game charts on lolking or op.gg and take those statistics at heart without understanding why.
It's not just about kills, either. Kills are a means to an end, but people treat them as the end itself. The only way the game ends is if the enemy surrenders or the nexus is destroyed, and you should NEVER trust the enemy to surrender. Never give them any quarter or relief if you can afford it.
Along the same lines, I don't care how worthless you think the dragons, rift herald, baron or red or blue buff are. They are still very important, and us having is infinitely better than the enemy having it. If you can afford to contest them for it, then DO IT. If you can't, take something else from them. If they take a dragon, then take a turret. Make them pay dearly for every advantage they think they can get, and make them pay double for any advantage they DO get. From what I've seen in my experience, the very instant you let them have one single advantage, you let them have all of them, because then suddenly you're in no capacity (by your own claim, regardless of reality or effort) to contest them for anything, including your own turrets, even though you just finished saying that the dragons and other buffs are worthless. It's either one or the other; it can't be both.
This rant will go on forever if I let it. It already runs over 1200 words, but there's so much to say on the subject, I could end up going on for hours, not that anybody would read it. In fact, I doubt anyone will get this far down; they'll just read the first letter, downvote it, and move on to the next.
