The remake only works if the person drops during champ select. If it's in-game, it does literally nothing. Who'd want to intentionally lose just to avoid losing though? That makes no sense.

not necessarily true, I believe it's if an afk is detected by the system before the 3min mark. I know that someone can afk before the 3min mark and have remake be available because a jungler quit the game for my team after forgetting smite earlier this year.

The summoner spells are locked in (I think) 10 seconds before the game starts. Not much time, but definitely possible.
