Winrates between ranks

I was looking up the leaderboards of op.gg, was totally unexpected but...

Shouldn't challenger players have a higher winrate percentage? I was expecting more 60-70% winrates up in the top players, but this is kind of silly and really isn't what rank is supposed to be?

I hate how this game keeps players at a low winrate on purpose, not even the lower ranking players but this effects the top players as well. What's going on lol

They have near 50% because they are playing aswell against Challengers, that's how the elo works and there's nothing wrong.

When you reach the rank that truly matches your skill, your win rate will likely never exceed 55%. Because you are playing with and against players of equal skill.

At least that is the ideal scenario.

What generally happens anymore is the following.

Riot wanted to shorten queue times and did it by expanding the MMR differences between players deemed suitable matches. Players' MMR are tallied while in queue and it is their combined, not their individual, MMR that is taken into account to create what is deemed as an even match up. And so, an often occurrence is that players of a low MMR whose MMR reflects their skill are matched against opponents in lane against enemies of a greater MMR. And all because the system decides that the player's allies' total MMR is enough to offset the skill difference.

Spoiler alert...it isn't.
