Anyone else think Press The Attack feels way too much like "Free damage?"

For 90% of AD's there's no reason to even think of another Keystone, you basically get a Thunderlord's Proc and 12% more damage from all sources doing things you were already going to do. Tempo can be used very well, but still feels kinda awkward due to having to change your kiting speed. Fleet Footwork seems to be pretty universally unused, but you still wanna go out of your way to champ poke to get the maximum heal.

I guess my big issue with PTA is you don't have to do anything to make it effective. It's essentially just free damage, which is something Riot crusaded against in Season 5 when they got rid of the tops of those skill trees, that were just flat stats.

To be perfectly honest, I've found myself using Fleeting Footwork more often than Press The Attack, since Footwork had been buffed a little while back. I think the point is that it is free damage. Electrocute, Meteor, and Aery are similar in that sense, but each do it in such a unique way that compliments certain champions.

Basically this. All the damage keystones are free damage but locked behind a way to trigger it.

Originally, during PBE testing, PTA was suppose to have Fervor of Battle effect where, as long you're attacking the one, same, enemy champion, you gain infinite stacks of bonus adaptive (or AD, because most melee and adcs run this) damage to that target for a certain duration, but you lose half of stacks if you target a different champion. However, they reworked it to where you need to proc it like thunderlords, like you said and deal extra damage.

In my opinion, PTA is not broken at the moment, but at the same time, it is weak as well. I prefer the FoB effect, like I mention earlier. Except, instead of having Riot reworking it, why not make limit the amount of stacks gain at max. Old FoB limits those champions to 8 stacks vs infinity. S

You mean: Weaker than Fervor?

"Free damage"

  • Requires 3 consecutive attacks against the same champion

  • You take it as a keystone, meaning you get no other keystone, meaning you're paying for it in some other way.

Please stop calling things free when they're not free. Just because you don't spend gold on it doesn't make it free.

Nothing in League is free for a champion. It comes out of their power budget, rune slots, or gold.

And even if you do look at it beyond the rune slot (which is not the same as the top level of masteries in season 5, as you had to take those flat stats to get anything that was interactive in a way), you're still running into the problem of it requiring them to do something.

Adc's autos are free damage.

The thing is, runes are multipurpose, so I can't agree it going so far taking it out of the champion's power budget. It is true that the champions did receive a hit and a buff from the lack of the former runes, to make up for the loss. But since that adjustment was made to every champion, it may as well considered as their new normal, and not an actual hit to the power budget itself... if you get what I mean.

The reason I call it free, is because I can play champions like Vi/MF/Jinx/Xayah/etc, with or without those particular runes, and not feel as if I'd gimped myself for having (or not having) that extra spark of damage. I just don't feel like it's something I'd ever actually depend on, and in more cases than not, it just feels like a bonus, on top of what I already do. That's not to say they aren't game changers, rather they sort of define the intent of the player, whether they plan to go tanky/damage/something in between/etc.

I suppose this is at fault of how my mind works. Even back when Thunderlords was the thing to get for a lot of champions, I felt lazy with it, especially since I often played a champion like Annie in mid, during those days. I already did a lot as I was, but to have something that widened that gap of opportunity that opposing mid laner had, felt less like skill, and more like something I was being given for free. I worked for the damage from that third hit of my auto/skill cast, not the damage from Thunderlords.

If it helps, I'll just consider it as "additional", but I can't bring myself to consider it as something I'd ever earned.
