Neglected common knowledge

  • Just because the support doesn't have a Sightstone doesn't mean they aren't warding.
  • Sightstone or no, the ward limit is still three.
  • Don't order the support to deep ward, and then yell at them if they get caught two seconds in.
  • Full melee champions can't poke. Period.
  • Death is the hardest crowd control, but it's also the hardest one to apply.
  • Thresh gets stronger from souls. Let him get to the big crowd of minions first before you blow it up.
  • You get gold from the Relic Shield, too.
  • Mages should be taking care of the siege minions.
  • Surrender at 20 or don't, but with five minutes to go, still, you might as well make an effort.
  • You, too, can apply stacks to Braum's passive.
  • You're killing enemy champions to open up objectives. They're a means to an end, not the end to itself.
  • The AD guy should focus the turrets.
  • There's no such thing as kill-stealing in a teamfight.
  • An assist is still a modest sum of gold.
  • A death given on both sides in a 1v5 just offered the equivalent of three kills to their team.
  • If you were fed, four kills.
  • Your champions' win rate is not YOUR win rate with that champion.
  • Your 12/0 kill streak last game means nothing in this one.
  • Rank is not an absolutely direct indication of skill.
  • Never dive a Blitz or Thresh.
  • Never dive a Morgana.
  • Ideally, the ward mule and ward buster should not be the same person.
  • The ward buster should have greater than average attack speed so they can smash and run.
  • The support is usually just poking to farm spellthief's edge and maybe their mastery passive. It's not the signal to dive in.
  • Trinkets can be upgraded for a pittance.
  • With diligent and frequent warding, you can cap out on ward placement with the Greater Stealth Totem ALONE.
  • Was it so wise to go 5 AD against Taric? Even with armor pen, you're going to have a rough time.
  • The small nerfs to your favorite champion didn't ruin him.
  • Leash the jungler. It's an investment to the security of your own lane. He's going to remember whether you did or not.
  • Telepathy is still not a thing. Call your roles.
  • Call your roles early. Ten seconds before the deadline is not acceptable.
  • Twenty seconds is not acceptable.
  • Thirty seconds is not acceptable.
  • You aren't impressing anyone by autolocking.
  • Three people just autolocked for the same lane? You have 80 seconds to compromise.
  • You should have a sizable list of champions you're skilled with, just in case they ban or pick Yasuo.
  • Last pick is just as coveted as first pick. You can see what everyone has selected, and no one is left to counter pick you.
  • Holding the game hostage, aka "mid or feed", is juvenile and grounds for reporting. Don't do it, even in jest.
  • If the same dragon has been warded three times, it's time to take it. Don't save it for later; that's when the enemy plans to take it.
  • If the line of scrimmage is up against the enemy turret, get some hits in.
  • If the line of scrimmage is up against your turret, all bets are off; the support is going to take a few minions.
  • Thresh is retreating from the line, but a smart Thresh has his lantern ready to give you a head start back to your turret. Keep smashing theirs.
  • Your chat ban after your last game isn't because of your behavior for THAT game; it's for a consistent pattern of misbehavior across several others.
  • Unless they're Pantheon, Sion, Twisted Fate or they have teleport, a jungler on the other half of the map or dead won't be ganking you any time soon. Keep your wards ready for when you CAN'T see where they are.
  • Just because Ezreal, Ashe and Jinx have a global ult doesn't mean they should constantly fire it to the opposite end of the map.
  • Especially if it's parallel to the lanes.
  • Especially if you keep missing.
  • Stand behind Braum.
  • Especially if there's an enemy Ezreal, Ashe or Jinx.
  • Especially if you're low on health.
  • Let him take a few minions to heal you.
  • Don't pursue Singed.
  • Especially if he has Liandri's Torment.
  • If there's an enemy Teemo, stand two or three minions behind the one in front.
  • For all we know, your "smurf" is actually your main account.
  • It doesn't matter what name you just gave me. I have no way to verify that.
  • Nor do I care to.

There will be more later, but this is all I can think of for now.

  • Just because the support doesn't have a Sightstone doesn't mean they aren't warding.

but it means their warding capabilities are much more limited. trinket is NOT a viable replacement

  • Sightstone or no, the ward limit is still three.

true

  • Don't order the support to deep ward, and then yell at them if they get caught two seconds in.

thats why you go deep ward (for example at dragon) when your old deep wards are still up. so you dont get bushcamped...

  • Full melee champions can't poke. Period.

there is no full melee support. only full melee champs i can think of right now are fiora, garen and trynd though im probably missing some

  • Death is the hardest crowd control, but it's also the hardest one to apply.

?

  • Thresh gets stronger from souls. Let him get to the big crowd of minions first before you blow it up.

your souls do not matter more than wave manipulation.

  • You get gold from the Relic Shield, too.

your gold does not matter more than wave manipulation

  • Mages should be taking care of the siege minions.

?? thats just plain stupid. everyone can take siege minions o.O

  • Surrender at 20 or don't, but with five minutes to go, still, you might as well make an effort.
  • The AD guy should focus the turrets.

AP champs get an AP scaling on autohits against buildings...

  • A death given on both sides in a 1v5 just offered the equivalent of three kills to their team.

no? assist gold is half the kill gold, and its divided onto ALL the persons that got an assist. so a 1 for 1 trade means you gave them an assist more than you got.

  • If you were fed, four kills.

500+250 is still not 1200

  • Rank is not an absolutely direct indication of skill.

no, but its quite accurate (at least for people actually playing ranked). so is normal game MMR

  • Never dive a Blitz or Thresh.
  • Never dive a Morgana.

thats just even more stupid.

  • Ideally, the ward mule and ward buster should not be the same person.

why not? its not like you can wait for your team to back you up and then smash the wards yourself, you dont need to go anywhere with 2 people

  • With diligent and frequent warding, you can cap out on ward placement with the Greater Stealth Totem ALONE.

yes you can, but its much worse than just buying a sighstone since you are lacking wards pre 9, you have to wait for CDs and you cant spam wards where you need them right now.

  • You should have a sizable list of champions you're skilled with, just in case they ban or pick Yasuo.

actually, most people (high elo streamers/lcs players etc) agree that the easisest way to climb is beeing a one trick pony

  • If the same dragon has been warded three times, it's time to take it. Don't save it for later; that's when the enemy plans to take it.

what a stupid rule of thumb o.O

Ooh ooh ooh, do this set!

Tip of the Day: 3/1/15 Probably not a good idea to try and "sneak" a baron in when the whole enemy team is up.

Tip of the Day: 2/28/15 Do not play Sion support.

Tip of the Day: 2/27/15/ Stop playing champs in ranked that you have never play before ffs.

Tip of the Day: 2/26/15 DO NOT go top while the enemy team pushes mid to win.

Tip of the Day: 2/25/15 If you take Leona, don't buy relic shield, don't buy a sightstone, and sit at tower, you probably should not be calling support in champ select.

Tip of the Day: 2/24/15 Just remember, having 3 fed lane champs is better than 1 fed jungler. If you gank and can let the laner get the kill, do it. Do not take it because you are a Xin building 100% damage trying to carry. The enemy team will have a much easier time shutting you down if you are the only one with kills on your team. Also, giving the lanes kills allows them to snowball, thus decreasing their dependence on you and growing your lead as a team. If you lose the game 8/6/1 as a jungler, it is not "gg team too heavy".

Tip of the Day: 2/23/15 Diving the enemy to trade kills isn't a good idea. Sure, you might be able to dive that low health person 1v3, but if you can't escape afterwards, it is in no way helpful. You traded your kill gold for kill gold + 2 assist gold, resulting in a net loss. You also must understand that if you keep doing this, your adc will be screwed. That 8 kill Irelia is just going to jump right on your adc and they won't be able to do any damage. If you are 10/10/2 as an assassin, you are not "carrying". You are giving the enemy team an advantage.

Tip of the Day: 2/22/15 If you're jungler, keep a timer on dragon. The buffs might not seem to big, especially early, but they do add up. It can be the difference in a close game, especially if you get Exodia buff.

Tip of the Day: 2/21/15 Try to keep your ADC alive late game. You might think you can go ham as support and dive on their carries, but chances are they will have people do the same to yours. Instead, try to keep the fed Irelia from jumping on top of your ADC so they can actually do damage in the fight.

Tip of the Day: 2/20/15 If the jungler pings that he is on the way (because you have spammed 'assist me' pings), do not take it upon yourself to dive the enemy laner and die before he gets there.

Tip of the Day: 2/19/15 An easy way to tell which clone is the real one, is by which one has buffs under them.

Tip of the Day: 2/18/15 As Blitz, do not fuking grab the Leona in lane. General rule of thumb

Tip of the Day: 2/17/15 The easiest way to lose the game is to die trying to make #LC$BIGPLAY$ in lane when you are not capable of doing so. Otherwise, you would be in the LCS.

Tip of the Day: 2/16/15 If the enemy Veigar has 20 stacks on Mejais, it might be a good fucking idea to build magic resist and stop running into the unwarded jungle.

Tip of the Day: 2/15/15 Don't expect Riot to correctly balance anything.

Tip of the Day: 2/14/15 Happy Valentines Day! Tip for today is no head while playing. It makes it rather difficult to pay attention.

Tip of the Day: 2/13/15 If someone on the team is trying to take an initiative and organize a gameplan, try to listen, especially if they are giving good advice. It is better to have some sort of organization than to run around like a chicken without a head.

Tip of the Day: 2/12/15 Don't go Taric mid lane. Just don't.

Tip of the Day: 2/11/15 If you are playing a weak early game champ, you should probably play safe early game.

Tip of the Day: 2/10/15 Do not insta-lock top when you already have a top laner. Unfortunately, I know that Riot does not punish this (even though they should), but you still shouldn't do it. It causes you to lose games and get bitched at. Don't be surprised when you get bitched at and don't "/all plz report for toxic". You are just being stupid.

Tip of the Day: 2/9/15 Communicate in the champ selection screen. First pick might want to trade with jungler or whatever to avoid a counter pick. Sitting there not saying a word doesn't help anyone.

Tip of the Day: 2/8/15 Don't get caught by the enemy team. Just don't do it. Wards are pretty cheap and not overextending is pretty easy. It makes it much worse when you blame your team for it.

Tip of the Day: 2/7/15 If you have 30 mins to play a game before you have to do something, DO NOT PLAY A GAME (except custom or something that involves 0 other real players). So annoyed losing games because people just dive 1v5 because "gtg in 5 mins lets end".

Tip of the Day: 2/6/15 If the game is 15-12 and nobody has more than 4 kills, you can still win the game lol. No need to surrender at 21 mins because you are down 3 kills and decently even in farm. Basically the tip is don't give up so early, especially when the game is still close lol.

Tip of the Day: 2/5/15 Objectives > kills. Say you win like a 3v3 fight, taking 2 of their champs and giving up none of yours. Say your minion wave also happens to be close to a tower. Take the tower instead of chasing that suppport into the jungle for an additional kill. Take the tower instead of going back to base with 75% health. Take the tower instead of going to farm the jungle. Just take the tower.

Tip of the Day: 2/4/15 Don't build magic resist if the entire enemy team does physical damage.

Tip of the Day: 2/3/15 Don't play League when mad. We know that video games are supposed to be stress relievers and all, but there are far too many people that do not follow even the simple tips listed here. They will only bug you more when having an off day.

Tip of the Day: 2/2/15 Know what role you are playing. If you are playing a tank, then get in there and fuck shit up. If you are playing ADC, probably not a good idea to run into the middle of everything.

Tip of the Day: 2/1/15 Do not play a champ in ranked that you have never played in a normal 5v5 before. I recommend like 10 games. Otherwise, you are being a big douchy to your teammates when you don't know how to play your champ at all.

Tip of the Day: 1/31/15 It is always better to have an average score and get carried, than to have a terrible score and be the reason you lose.

Tip of the Day: 1/30/15 Before starting to play ranked games, make sure you practice the support role. In ranked, support is probably the only (at least the most common) role that you will be forced to play. Last pick? You're probably support. Therefore, it is only intelligent to practice this role before playing ranked. Nobody likes the "I don't know how to play support" or "No support champs" people. You are either trolling or dumb, and nobody likes a troll.

Tip of the Day: 1/29/15 Don't over push your lane without wards.

Tip of the Day: 1/28/15 If you can win the game, win it. There is no need to farm jungle instead of taking an open inhibitor after winning a team fight. You only stall the game out and give yourself opportunities to throw.

Tip of the Day: 1/27/15 Do not chase a tank into an unwarded jungle when the enemy team is MIA. You will get baited.

Tip of the Day: 1/26/15 If you are 0-3-0, please do not dive your lane opponent to go 0-4-0.

Tip of the Day: 1/25/15 Do not run into the unwarded jungle. That is a bad idea.

Tip of the Day: 1/24/15 If you are playing with a Fiddles jungle, and the enemy has a Lee Sin jungle, buy wards and play safe early. Lee has much greater early game pressure. Failing to do so does not mean "GG our jungler sucks wish we had yours", it means you are a dumb dumb.

Ooh ooh ooh, do this set!

Tip of the Day: 3/1/15 Probably not a good idea to try and "sneak" a baron in when the whole enemy team is up.

if you can sneak it (if its pinked and you have ward coverage) you can try and back off if the enemy team closes in on you

Tip of the Day: 2/28/15 Do not play Sion support.

yep

Tip of the Day: 2/27/15/ Stop playing champs in ranked that you have never play before ffs.

yep

Tip of the Day: 2/26/15 DO NOT go top while the enemy team pushes mid to win.

if you can splitpush and theyre not finishing it migh be decent

Tip of the Day: 2/25/15 If you take Leona, don't buy relic shield, don't buy a sightstone, and sit at tower, you probably should not be calling support in champ select.

love those passive supports... (complete pain)

Tip of the Day: 2/24/15 Just remember, having 3 fed lane champs is better than 1 fed jungler. If you gank and can let the laner get the kill, do it. Do not take it because you are a Xin building 100% damage trying to carry. The enemy team will have a much easier time shutting you down if you are the only one with kills on your team. you shouldnt be the only one getting kills but taking some is actually better early game since you can snowball your lead to other lanes. if the jungler gets behind winning any lane gets really hard

0/10 and 10/0 is much better than 10/10, yea, but depending on the situation diving is completely fine. esp since your adc will most likely get an assist when you dive in lane

Tip of the Day: 2/22/15 If you're jungler, keep a timer on dragon. The buffs might not seem to big, especially early, but they do add up. It can be the difference in a close game, especially if you get Exodia buff.

well....

Tip of the Day: 2/21/15 Try to keep your ADC alive late game. You might think you can go ham as support and dive on their carries, but chances are they will have people do the same to yours. Instead, try to keep the fed Irelia from jumping on top of your ADC so they can actually do damage in the fight.

if you play leona, engage. if you play pretty much anything else, peel, if you play blitz, be useless <3

Tip of the Day: 2/20/15 If the jungler pings that he is on the way (because you have spammed 'assist me' pings), do not take it upon yourself to dive the enemy laner and die before he gets there.

sometimes waiting for the jungler results in missing a kill though, because the enemy either has wards or just wanted to back off anyway

Tip of the Day: 2/19/15 An easy way to tell which clone is the real one, is by which one has buffs under them.

gg wp captain obvious

Tip of the Day: 2/18/15 As Blitz, do not fuking grab the Leona in lane. General rule of thumb

there are no general rule of thumbs in LoL. grabbing the leona can be perfectly fine if your ahead enough to win the fight regardless, shes low, you have numbers advantage etc.

Tip of the Day: 2/17/15 The easiest way to lose the game is to die trying to make #LC$BIGPLAY$ in lane when you are not capable of doing so. Otherwise, you would be in the LCS.

you have to try to make plays and take risks in order to get better, and in order to win the game

Tip of the Day: 2/16/15 If the enemy Veigar has 20 stacks on Mejais, it might be a good fucking idea to build magic resist and stop running into the unwarded jungle.

it also might be a good fucking idea to kill him since hes squishy and has no mobility

Tip of the Day: 2/15/15 Don't expect Riot to correctly balance anything.

why not, they do. have you been around in S3?

Tip of the Day: 2/14/15 Happy Valentines Day! Tip for today is no head while playing. It makes it rather difficult to pay attention.

cant really tell since forever alone

Tip of the Day: 2/13/15 If someone on the team is trying to take an initiative and organize a gameplan, try to listen, especially if they are giving good advice. It is better to have some sort of organization than to run around like a chicken without a head.

even if you think theyre wrong, it might be better to follow them since the enemies make mistakes aswell and are as lilkely to fuck up

Tip of the Day: 2/12/15 Don't go Taric mid lane. Just don't.

Gems?

Tip of the Day: 2/11/15 If you are playing a weak early game champ, you should probably play safe early game.

or you should call for your jungler, get a kill early and fuck the shit out of your lane opponent

You are just being stupid.

they do punish it. its called "assisting the enemy team". trollpick

Tip of the Day: 2/9/15 Communicate in the champ selection screen. First pick might want to trade with jungler or whatever to avoid a counter pick. Sitting there not saying a word doesn't help anyone.

(y)

Tip of the Day: 2/8/15 Don't get caught by the enemy team. Just don't do it. Wards are pretty cheap and not overextending is pretty easy. It makes it much worse when you blame your team for it.

not overextending is pretty hard. especially when you love minions like i do

yea thats right, but "never surrender" is equally stupid

literal firsttime reksai in P1 ranked game, went 9/0/14 :D

you have to take risks in order to get a lead

Tip of the Day: 1/25/15 Do not run into the unwarded jungle. That is a bad idea.

maybe run there and ward it.

Full melee champions can't poke. Period.

These bits don't apply exclusively to supports. One game I played, our Lee Sin went top to defend it and ordered the rest of the team to stay mid, defend and "poke the enemy." I look around, and our team is composed of Braum, Gangplank, whoever our ADC was, and Yasuo. We have nowhere near the kind of adequate poking without getting into melee range against an enemy with oodles more crowd control than us.

Death is the hardest crowd control, but it's also the hardest one to apply.

I heard this argument for having an all-assassin team. The problem with that mindset is crowd control is used as a means to an end (peeling, preventing retaliation, stalling enemies as they try to close or distance the gap with you), where the kill is the end itself, and the effectiveness of the kill depends on your skill, how on par or ahead you are in the game, your coordination with your teammates, and the crowd control that prevents them from moving or fighting back. The reason why people lose duels to Tryndamere is because his ult stops him from dying, and only an idiot is going to try and match him in a slugfest, but his lunge and crowd control prevents escapees as well. However, in the face of crowd control, particularly stuns, he has no answer for it.

Let's just say that if I had a dollar for every iteration of the bullet points I've seen, I could pay off my student loans three times over.

Some of this is relatively uncommon or advice people have probably never thought of, like Thresh standing a good distance back while the ADC smashes the turret to lantern them to safety when they're done, but then there are others that SHOULD be or is common knowledge that is completely ignored or neglected, or a pattern of behavior I've consistently seen the past two years and roughly 2500 games I've played.

Until recently I knew a guy who was supremely toxic; basically they played on a hair-trigger temper, and if things didn't go perfectly smoothly in their lane or there was the slightest bit of resistance, they'd fly off the handle, sabotage the jungler's monster camps and go AFK. It was extremely bad behavior, and it got them chat banned several times because of their attitude. I distinctly remember one time he got the notification after the game that he was chat restricted, and he got offended and furious and acted as if he was being a bastion of civility. It's that kind of cognitive dissonance that exists in the League community; whether or not it's to that degree is debatable.

There are a lot of axes I have to grind and a lot of anvils that need to be dropped, as much as I try to not let my posts sound too axe-grindy or anvil-droppy. I try to mull it over in my head first, usually for days at a time, and put away the axes until I get something more akin to non-biased, general advice or insight... but again, sometimes I can't afford to be so subtle.

just adding this supports are supposed to support the carry not go for kills unneeded farm or ditch em for the jungler after 3 kills with both enemy bot lane still fighting together

the carry isnt supposed to abuse the guy trying to get them fed

There will be more later, but this is all I can think of for now.

i love how you are so legit and stil lgetting down voted.

another example of the flamers arent the problem the stuopid idiots pushign your buttons in a ranked game are.... ' seriously no joke every thing you say is correct and ignored regluarly

  • Your chat ban after your last game isn't because of your behavior for THAT game; it's for a consistent pattern of misbehavior across several others.

this is the only one htat bothred me its a yes and no im currently chat restricted calling me toxic is a bad joke though

the things that get me reported are attackign a Braum that rushed item 3512 that 0/8 adc 0/8 supp and wth are you heat skeeing with the intent to steal every ounce of gold im working for needlessly taking kills and last hitting minons out of spite

im not saying the restrictions are undeserved im saying there is a reason i flamed and nothing is being done hints why such poor behavior is even happening.

A death given on both sides in a 1v5 just offered the equivalent of three kills to their team.

I dont understand this one.

The wording is a bit awkward. Basically, if you are the one in a 1v5 and you kill the enemy while getting killed yourself, it wasn't an even trade. If one enemy gets the kill and four get the assist, the baseline gold is 300+125(4), or about 800 gold, or the equivalent of 2 2/3 kills. If you were particularly fed, it could be a hell of a lot higher, potentially 500+240(4), or 1460 gold, or 4 2/3 kills. That's probably not how the latter works, but I've at least gotten 240 gold from a Shut Down assist before.

I'm a Nasus main and I refuse to listen to this. Can't tell you how many times I have been off farming and I get ganked by four people. I usually get one, sometimes two kills out of it, and your telling me that wasn't an even trade?

Maybe my greater mistake is listing these bullet points without the context I'm thinking of. I've seen it the other way around, where a Fizz, for example, charges into a known 1v5, usually around dragon, and gets predictably creamed while taking maybe one of them out, and then says "worth!" in the all chat.

this is wrong. assist gold is ALWAYS half the kill gold dividen onto EVERYONE that got an assist. so its either 300+150 or 500+250 but never more than that

  • Ezreal can autoattack.
