Because all I'm seeing between the 3 of them is the same amount of assassin potential as these newer types of "Less bursty assassins" equipped with more utility, and a much less risky play style.

I've been saying Wukong is broken for years. Not so sure about Riven and Syndra. They seem strong but I don't think they're broken. I mean, you can see them coming and you have time to prepare for it.

Syndra has 0 mobility outside of summoners, even though she is broken as fk right now.
Wukong doesnt really have 100-0 burst if not building glass/being ahead, hes just a tanky initiator/diver most of the time.
Just because someone has high burst damage doesnt mean they are an assassin, assassins have that AND mobility/tools to slip past/ignore the frontline (like stealth and/or high range blinks/dashes), kill the target and possibly get away alive (or kill everyone else).

Talisid4 votesSyndra does too much damage, its true, but what separates her from an assassin is mobility and disengage tools. If you get on top of her she's fucked.
Riven can't really "poof" into the backline of your team like an assassin can but she does have a lot of mobility. She can really only assassinate targets when she gets into a good flanking position or catches somebody out of position because she can't really bulldoze though the front line very well.
Wukong, tbh, pretty much has an assassin kit, or something very close to it.
