Remember when we had a mastery tree that allowed us to make decisions?

The tree we had before keystones existed not only provided way more options and enhancements to your champion, but in my opinion came off as a HELL of a lot more creative which in turn allowed you to be more creative. I used to have so much fun mixing and matching runes and masteries for my favorite champions and seeing what really fit my playstyle, I remember picking 17/0/13 on my top lane Shen back in the day and thinking it was the coolest thing ever getting healed extra from my Q (RIP Vorpal Blade).

It's way more cookie cutter than it ever has been and regardless of this season's additions, it has just as many non-decisions as the new tree always has (Looking at you, Courage. And Perserverance. And Veteran's Scars. Well, basically all of Resolve). I know this game will never be immune to change and I'll always keep up with it's current state, but for me it was during the keystone release that my personal enjoyment dropped off to a pretty extreme degree.

Yeah, I liked the old system much better too

I'd rather see masteries just get removed and have riot add more run combinations, improve rune cost, and balance rune efficiency better.

If anyone played Infinite Crisis they had a pretty interesting setup for "runes" (just about every stat combination you could think of) and opened up some interesting possibilities.

Granted some runes will be niche (for both certain situations, champions, maps, etc), but having choices and versatility wouldn't hurt (assuming they balanced efficiency vs cost).

Btw, people. That little 21 offense point? It gave 3% additional damage.

You can get far more than that out of 12 or fewer points in either cunning or ferocity now.

Meanwhile resolve/defense tree was gutted.

I would prefer a way to directly increase my champions starting stats, at the EXPENSE of other stats. So a Yasuo could build AD but LOSE MR and Armor, making him have to play more carefully.

Ahh, the times when you could go 30/0/0, 0/30/0 or 0/0/30...you'd be a fool to do it, but you still had the choice.

It's kinda funny though - all these threads about how the current state of League of Legends is not as good as it used to be compared to 2-3 seasons back...what if they made "Vanilla LoL" as a Rotating Game Mode, giving us, say, patch 3.14 for few weekends over a year?

Or even just testing what the reception would be of such a thing on the Boards or - Teemo forbid - Reddit. If it gets an overall good reception, that should be a clear indication that someone needs to go back to the drawing board... And if not, well, make it an RGQ anyway fur teh lulz.

I miss the support exp mastery when near higher leveled allies.

the old mastery tree didnt need the final mastery, i frequently remember people using incomplete trees and completely stomping.
